This is true! I recently bought a newer car, but I miss my old 07 320D - the other thing is that you don't worry about leaving it at the front of a car park and it getting dinged versus a newer car, so very often your journeys are actually effectively quicker with the older car!

It’s the best to keep cars on the road for longer. Some do argue that they emit more harmful local pollutants than the modern engines. But we all know this climate BS and pollution scaremongering is about control, power and taxing us more. Here’s to the French protests, I hope them spread here and they bring their machines with them. 🍺

On the upside, there is going to be a glut on the market now for buyers who are prepared to travel to London to obtain such beauties. Even much newer models are going to be included, especially on the diesel side.

I just sold my Impreza Turbo wagon. 203k miles on the same engine and gearbox! And it was lightly modded and running 270 bhp! Still ran sweet when I sold it.

I suppose that's a fair point but sometimes people try get away with not doing the parts that only need doing after like 80k or 100k miles until as late as possible, and so you want to check those things as soon as. MK5 GTIs for example, a lot of them being sold at the moment with water pump and belt changed apparently at a certain mileage, but not exactly great when it's 5 or 6 years ago and needs to apparently be done like every 3 years regardless. A lot of modern cars don't seem to go through service every year now, which is bit odd to me as my fam put every car through a service + MOT at the same time yearly and have done that for 20+ years that I've been around at least. Maybe intervals have become 2 years. I heard something about MOTs potentially being proposed to being spread further apart, but I feel it is essential we keep it a yearly check. Far too many cars on the roads just scraping by on basic stuff

@@Stallzyx I never trust any service history. I always service a car when I buy it regardless of history. I also do chains or belts. I bought a corsa a couple of years back with receipt for timing belt kit and work carried out on a chain driven engine 🤣

I disagree. Most cars should make it to 100k miles these days. I look at plenty in that region of 100k and they've been serviced every 20k miles. It's enough to get them to 100k, maybe it's had some issues, but no way would I consider it wanting to make 200k, which is high mileage these days. If I'm buying 100k it best have excellent service record.

@@markfox1545 yes, have I spelt it wrong? Lol it’s not my strongest subject.. apparently I have something starting with D but I find that even harder to spell. Me and my wife have always found it important to show both our boys the world so since they were very young we’ve taken them away to many places by flying, traveling by Land Rover or hire cat or with our sailing boat… we’ve not gone a great distance in that as it’s slow going! We had 3 weeks off and decided wild camping in Scandinavia, so we mounted the roof tent on the Sankey trailer and hooked that on our trusty old disco and off we went! 9 countries in 2 weeks and 4700 miles, I lost count of how many ferries we used. I filled the old disco up in Portishead and managed to make a filling station in Salzbergen in Germany…that’s around 530 miles on one tank of fuel, loaded and and pulling a trailer….do that in a EV! We caped in various places on the way up and drove a couple of hundred miles into the artic circle before turning east as I’ve always wanted to drive down the Baltic Sea coast.. we popped into Tornio, Finland for a burger and a look around and then headed south.. took the ferry back into mainland Europe, spent the night in Berlin and then a quick hop into Poland for cheap diesel and then home via a camp in Germany! Only problem we had was the alternator failed in a nasty part of Sweden and I managed to find a spare and fitted it in services car park.. that was a 5 week old Denso unit from Japan! So the only part to let me down was Japanese which made me feel happy! Lol Hope that helps.

Titanium X, mmmmm heated and cooled seats. That is automotive perfection that is. If you look at my video on my previous car history, I ran a Ghia X estate for a couple of years when I was younger. Wood wheel, heated and cooled seats, sunroof, cruise control.... Perfect mile muncher for the 250 mile trip to university.

Great comment Ant...! I agree on the keeping up with the Jones thing, what’s the point?! I love my old cars. It’s like the ‘new 72 Reg’ advertising and that old thing of wanting to be the first to have the new plate. That’s insane.

@@GeoffBuysCars We live in a throw away society mate. People have been brainwashed by consumerism and the need to have the latest new thing. Same with mobile phones. Yes I have a smart phone, I'm using it to reply to you right now, but it's a couple of years old with a cracked screen and I still rock it. Why? Because it works lol. It still does everything I need it to so I have no need to replace it until it dies 💁‍♂️ My toy in thr garage as my name suggests is my long term project. It's 33 years old in September and still alive. A lot of them were traded in for the newest one, then that one was traded for the next newst one when bmw released it. A lot were sent to China to return as white goods 🤦‍♂️ Mine has had a full restoration and to allow it to still have legs in 2023 it's now hiding a 4.0 v8 👀 Again, not something I aim to replace infact it's something I want to hand down to my sons later on (but not before I've had my fun with it first 👀😁😂)

I had to let my 9000 Aero go. I ended up with too many cars and didn't have the time or facilities to do what needed doing. It did go to someone who wanted to restore it and when I last checked it was still running. :) As a 1993 model, that was the only year with components that were then inconsistent for the rest of the production run years.

Having driven the VW Golf MK4 with that 1.9 SDI engine all I can is I am not in the least bit suprised it did 500k miles. I sold mine with 257k miles on the clock and the engine was still perfect.

@@davidbusch8912 I'd love to use music that I like in all the videos, but any time I've used Chvrches or Death Cab or Jimmy Eat world I get a copyright strike and all the ad money goes to the copyright holder. Sometimes I make a video and think 'this doesn't work with stock music' or there's a track I simply have to use, so it depends how I feel.

You didn't say what car it is? But that's brilliant, let the first owner take the depreciation hit and iron out any gremlins... I was saying this to someone the other day, when you own and love a high mile car (sometimes not even a high mile car), when you do your own maintenance and are 'into it' then you know the car inside out. I can tell you every part I replaced on my red volvo and I can tell you exactly what's going to break next, ha ha!

@@GeoffBuysCars if I told you that my car is an 800cc Smart ForTwo diesel, the mileage reading is 146201 as of when I parked it up this evening, what I really like about it is that it is so basic, no touch screen, no electric this, that and the other, no leaking sunroof, it's just a plain and simple get me from A to B vehicle that does a 60 mile round trip daily getting me to and from work, mostly motorway mileage, it has its quirks, but for what I need a car for, it's very practical and extremely economical to run

Late 90s were better built and longer lasting. Says a guy with 650,000 miles worth of Volvo 850 on the drive.

Great comment, enjoyed reading that, and I love the bit at the end where you say you replaced it with a CLS. I love those things, fantastic looking cars, especially the early ones and the later shooting brakes. I really, really rate them.

@Geoff Buys Cars thank you.. I still had the ST when i bought the merc.. i wanted to keep it, but with 2 classic fords in the garage and on the drive, the wife wanted the ST gone.. But the merc 350 grand edition has to be the best motor so far, ultra reliable, had the troublesome oil seals replaced not long after i bought it, and in 6 + years of ownership, has cost me very little indeed.. fuel consumption is on par with the ST.. on cruise ive had it return 50mpg on a few trips from South east London to chester.. i do all my own maintenance etc, so no garage labour costs too. Im classic ford through and through, but for a daily driver, im a merc man.

It depends where you sit them. I am a keen cyclist and did 300 miles a week training on my bike for decades and commuted on it also. During this time in 2004, I bought a mk2 mx5 1.8 in razor blue brand new. It hardly came out of the garage because of my cycling. A neighbour up the road who used to manage a garage always used to comment his disapproval to me about not using the mx5, keeping it garaged up and hence in his eyes doing it harm. Today, it has done just over 7 k miles at nearly 19 years old. Looks brand new and runs very well after it's last service and MOT, as do I, even after hundreds of thousands of miles whilst vigorously rotating my knees. My neighbour however died years ago from a heart attack. There is a moral in there somewhere ?

Could be worse, could be like my 2006 Saab 9-3... Drive it off the end of the drive and wait for a coil spring to snap.
