ABOUT ME
I’m 33 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city s a Police Officer and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 1200 breeding ewes.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on RU-vid and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Since starting The Sheep Game I have met Lizzy and had two incredible boys Jock and Angus. You will see them all on this channel!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

Cammy, I hear you when you say you love lambing outdoors, but I keep wondering who you’re trying to convince. As you get older, the stress and the physical strain will cause a change. Enjoy it while you can in the too infrequent sunny days. I’m happy to see you in the sunshine.

One can tell you love what you do. The sheep game is You. I love the way you talk and treat your sheepdogs and flock like lass, kind little mum, good girl, she loves her baby, a good mum. You are gentle and real and all too often I can see the emotion whether it be pure elation at the birth of the wee lambs, your care of your sheepdogs especially , Maggie (I think her name is), the joy on your face for your sons, your respect and love for Lizzie. On the flipside the sadness and concern yet reality of being a sheep farmer losing lambs, attacks on sheep, lack of sleep/ weariness, the weather, etc. i know you will probably not read this but I confess, I have been watching a lot of the Sheep game as I lie on my side with a slipped disc. I often fall asleep (good meds for the excruciating pain) and wake to Cammy still talking. lol I even had a dream of you ….i was saying you looked very good in a kilt! (You had a kilt on and all dressed to the nines!) Lizzie was looking at the boys with the new baby and you were saying…”it’s a big one” ! The baby was long and lanky, happy as could be! lol ThankYou for keeping it real! Love your videos and Fed by Farmers channel.

I live in BC, Canada and farmers here have cut down all the trees along the irrigation ditches. The farms are good sized, the smallest is 500 acres where I am. It's horrible not having any trees or shrubs in between the fields. There are no windbreaks and special bird stands have to be placed in the corner of the fields so the osprey have a place to nest. Otherwise they nest on the power poles. It gets so dry in the summer because the wind gets going and there's nothing to slow it or retain moisture with some shade. We don't have strict legislation and what we do have, some people ignore. With climate change, the crops haven't been maturing at the right time and most farmers here are seeing a 30% decrease in grain production. I understand maximizing production from the land, but sometimes it comes back to bite you. I think there has to be a balance with wild nature. You have foxes, and I have coyotes, bears, deer, and elk to manage against crops and livestock. I love having them around even if they're a pain, except coyotes. Fuck coyotes. But I do love your videos and podcasts. Great work.

There are still plenty of challenges you are dealing with especially with the 2nd cycle of lambing coming up, but it is great to see your face and tone looking and sounding better with the break in the weather and a chance to catch your breath a bit. All the best to you and Lizzie - I hope she is doing well with this last part of her pregnancy and you are ready to go for the arrival of your own new little nugget. ❤

@@lizzythomson4461 HAHAHAHA!!! Well just from the small amount of videos I’ve seen, lambing and tending sheep is VERY exhausting especially when 99% of the sheep are stubborn and one has to physically exert energy to those 99%. I can definitely understand without judgement of grabbing naps anytime one can, even for 5 minutes. He does help for sure. The more the years pack on, the easier it is for physical, mental, emotional and spiritual exhaustion to rear its ugly head and harder to overcome and actually feel rested after a nights sleep. Burn out is becoming very common unfortunately in today’s world. It takes years to overcome and unfortunately many don’t.

My son mr 4 has taken a liking to this channel too. I heard him yelling come by, come by … away… away!!!. It took me a second to work out what was going on . Then we had a laugh . He’s asking me for a lamb 😂❤. We live in Australia with no big yard so not going to happen😅

Just wondering what you do for water for the ewes penned in the field. You have the most beautiful "office" ever!

hi from Northern Ontario, Canada Cammy. I find myself getting excited each time I get a notification that you have a new video posted. ❤ Good job on the first lamb rescue. I love hearing you talk to them. Like me and my cats and snake 😊 what was the black mass you found on the grass after you had rescued the first lamb? What happens to the wee ones that don't survive? I hope the one with the gimpy back leg will be alright? The views of the countryside were amazing. If I were to ever visit there, I'd not want to return home.

That black mass was a stillborn lamb in an amniotic sac that was very, very unusually tough. The lamb may have suffocated inside? "Joint ill" is an infection that typically travels from the opening @ the site of the umbilical cord to a joint or more in the leg or to the spine. Cammy sprays the navel, Sandi dips it in betadine.💕💕

Glorious to see that sunrise, and you are cool Cammy! I am surprised that you don’t see more preg tox with those giant singles, glad you don’t though! If I were one of those girls, I certainly reconsider getting pregnant again!🤣💕🇨🇦

Good problem to have having too much grass just means you need more sheep 😂 cows that miss a calving end up with a monster calf due to too much feed

Spectacular sunrise. Loved seeing you rescue the wee lamb from the waters edge. I enjoy listening to you talk to the mums and lambies. Another great video. Hate that you aren’t making any money from them.

Some of those fields are a nightmare for newborns. Agree about the trees, but double fenced hedges with stock netting provide good shelter and wildlife corridors. Our hedges are cut in an ‘A’ shape and with modern hedge cutters cut as high as they can reach, not a man’s reach with a hook as so many are still cut. Our hedge look very pleasing too. Have you tried Beltex tups? Much easier birthing and alway good to use a narrow headed tup on gimmers such as Lleyn or Chsrollais. Better a live R grade every time.
