When I got my first car I had an 8 track installed and the first few coins I could scrape together for music I bought Hellbound Train. Still love everything Savoy Brown.
This intro was from the beginning of Looking In & also was the outro to that record, it was titled Rommanoff , I'm tired was off A Step Further, Two fine old Savoy Brown LPs. Kim's still one of the greatest rock guitarists around after all these years !!!
Fucking awesome! Sax player nailing original singer's vocal style is waaaay cool...Kim's fingers are wonderfully fleet...I've been loving me some Savoy Brown since 1970...
Kim Simmonds: Most underrated guitarist ever. Can play circles around Clapton, Beck, Gary Moore, Peter Green, the whole lot. He's still DOING IT...always has a kick-ass band with him. This version of "I'm Tired" is SO COOL. The bass player has got that heavy HEAVY bottom. Grea drummer. Kudos to this band. Keep it GOING KIM!
Having seen Kim Simmonds and band perform live multiple times in the early 70s and in the early 2000s, I can say that Kim is an excellent rock and blues guitarist.
kybourbonboy: As someone who saw them many times between late '67 and the end of '69 I can say that Simmons is merely average as a guitar player. Back then London was up to it's bottom lip in better guitar players than him! The thing that made the Youlden band worth seeing, apart from his voice, was the collective noise they made. Youlden left because of the way the band was run. Pretty soon the rest of the band left Simmons, because he was calling the shots, and they all thought he was no great shakes as a guitarist, and a complete jerk as a boss! They thought they could do better without him, and they were right. Certainly as far as success goes Foghat were far bigger! You have to understand Simmons and his Dad ran the band, the rest of them were on a wage! If you didn't like it, you were out! Thats what happened. Pretty soon everyone...................was out, except Simmons, who kept THE NAME and milked it for the rest of his life! Good luck to him. His alternative was what? Driving a van?
I won't debate that the revolving personnel were due to Kim's way of running things. But when I saw him several times since 2003 I thought he was a pretty guitarist. IMO he made serious mistakes from a business point of view by failing to keep good band members. Especially vocalists, since he is a very weak singer at best.
Ok..i'll comment. Having been a Savoy fan for nearly 30 Years . I have to say this is one excellent performance by Kim and Company. And a Very good sounding & looking video Freddy .
Seems to be lots of negativity in the thread. If you don't like Kim, find something you do like. I've been a fan since 67 and I think he is underrated.
I've been a fan almost as long. I bought "Blue Matter" in '68, and then quickly bought the older stuff. Someday, Simmonds will be recognized as a great genius. He successfully fuses progressive blues-rock with jazz. His greatest fault? Not having a solid vocalist as a front man. Losing Chris Youlden was a great mistake and a greater shame. However, if there's a list somewhere of the ten better guitarists, I have yet to see it. Kim's in a class by himself.
@@alkholos , I think his voice fits his music just fine and he is definitely not respected. Another guitarist from the same era, Mick Abrahams, is another. He was the guitarist on 1st Jethro Tull album then formed Blodwyn Pig.
The original guitar solo was maybe 20 seconds and said a lot. I've just suffered through ten minutes of drivel here and never heard anything close to what he did in the 70's.
+joe pish i disagree, i mean he didn't play the whole set acoustic i'm sure, but this gave the song a unique edge. that's why i've seen him like 10 or 15 times cuz every time it's different
+1blastman Those were killer albums, all this garbage on the rock and roll hall of fame, but the truly greats rarely recognized. Bill clinton fucked everyone with the communications act of 1987 where clear channel communications could take over all the air waves. American music sucks now. These brits were trully talented, took the american blues to a whole new level
Yep. So-called "liberal" Clinton. And Tipper Gore. REMEMBER her? Wanted Congress to pass a bill to censor lyrics on Rock albums. Another "liberal". Oh yeah, her hubby Al "invented the Internet". Said so on Letterman. Hate to bring up such horrible memories on a Kim Simmonds/ Savoy Brown site. Lucky I got to see Savoy Brown in 1975/76, when Paul Raymond was on keyboards and Dave Bidwell was on drums. One of the BEST concerts ever. They always stole the show from the headliners back then.
