Say Goodbye Cholesterol With This 8 Foods That Lower Cholesterol

Individuals that are overweight and obese are more prone to cardiovascular diseases because of the high cholesterol level in their blood. Therefore, it is recommended that they lose some weight to help reduce their cholesterol level.
To help keep cholesterol low, it is important to eat a healthy diet that is low in unsaturated fat. However, cholesterol levels can be reduced when you include the following super 8 foods that lower cholesterol.
1. Oats: Having a bowl of oatmeal or oat-based cereal for breakfast is an easy first step to improving your cholesterol. It provides you with 1g to 2g of soluble fiber and an extra 0.5g each if you add a banana or some strawberries. The daily recommendation for fiber is 20 to 30 grams with 5 to 10 grams obtained from soluble fiber.
2. Barley and other whole grains: These assist in lowering the risk of cardiovascular diseases, just like oats and oat bran, mostly through their supply of soluble fiber.
3. Nuts: Nuts are rich in fiber, vegetable protein, healthy fats, vitamin E, potassium, magnesium, natural plant sterols and many other plant nutrients that are beneficial. Taking about 30-35g of nuts daily could lower cholesterol by up to 5%.
4. Beans and Other Legumes: Beans, lentils, peas and peanuts are also super sources of soluble fiber. According to a study published in The Journal of Nutrition (November 2007), it was discovered that eating half a cup of cooked dried pinto beans (2 grams of soluble fiber) every day for 12 weeks consistently decreased LDL cholesterol by almost 7%.
5. Soy: Soy is another super food that is high in fiber, low in saturated fat and free of cholesterol. It is the only complete plant-based protein, which implies that it’s an equal swap for animal sources like meat and dairy.
Substituting foods that are high in saturated fat with daily Soy intake has the ability to lower LDL cholesterol by almost 8 to 10% - according to a study published in The Journal of Nutrition (2010).
6. Vegetable oils: Another way to reduce cholesterol is by cooking with liquid vegetable oils such as sunflower, canola, safflower and others instead of butter or lard.
7. Citrus fruits, Grapes, Apples and Strawberries: These fruits are very rich in pectin, a type of soluble fiber that helps lower LDL.
8. Avocados: Avocados contain monounsaturated fats that help in lowering LDL and increasing HDL, most especially in persons with mildly elevated cholesterol. Add a few slices of avocados to salads and sandwiches, or mash with garlic, salsa and lemon juice for a great guacamole.
There are many other foods that lower cholesterol levels but these eight are a good place to start if you are dedicated to forming eating habits that are healthy. Generally, stay away from unsaturated fats and eat more of fiber, Omega-3 and monounsaturated fats, - doing this will definitely help improve your cholesterol level.

@@justin219 I have 6,5 and that is considered high. Apparently it needs to be below 5. I don't know if they scale used to measure this differs from country to country. I'm from South Africa btw.

Just been doctors my cholesterol test came back 7.2 obviously not good but onwards and upwards this video will point me in right direction 👍

Hi Paul, I think you need to talk to your doctor and clarify your blood work numbers. 7.2 is almost certainly your HBA1c, or average blood sugar. 7.2 is usually considered pre-diabetic. Cholesterol a d triglycerides are measured in hundreds, for instance 200 is about normal. This same diet should help both, but che k my other note above about other complete non animal proteins. I personally dislike the tastes of soy products and don't digest them well. Try chia, quinoa, buckwheat and amaranth, also pumpkin seeds.

I just found out I have 245 cholesterol it’s my first time getting tested I’m trying to find ways to lower it if possible I’ve been working out and diet since may 2022 so I don’t understand why it’s high I was surprised I also am borderline for high blood pressure

I watched a 'documentary' on BBC once, all those involved were dressed in 16th century posh rich people's attire, they also were living in a rich persons London house and ate all typical rich peoples food and drink for 7 days. All were given blood tests to see individuals cholesterols baseline from the off. At the end of that 7 day period everyone's levels were deemed to be incredibly high! I took from that, that this cholesterol issue is more complex than I realised, as I assumed it would takes months to gradually change or improve this either way!! Just my footnote on it...but yeh MacD's has to be way less regular! I can't use the fact they've a toilet as much sad excuse!!

As a matter of fact, some of the information is not correct. For example vegetable oil worsen the situation. Be away from canola oil and the likes and replace it with olive oil, avocado oil as well as coconut oil. Thanks.

Hi don’t eat animal based protein it’s very bad for humans our digestive stystems and teeth were made for plants , quit the animal based food at your cholesterol levels will lower , the animal protein market raises your cholesterol so that you can go to the doctors and PAY for a special pill to cure cholesterol, or type 2 diabetes , or lower your risk of hard attack , feel more energetic when really all you have to do is eat more plants and less food that has been inside an animal.. watch the documentary game changers on Netflix if u want to hear more

There is a gene that runs in my family that predisposes toward lipid(blood fat) disorders, and doesn't have much if anything to do with one's weight... ask your doctor if genetic testing would be appropriate. The problem seems to be that LDL and triglycerides tend to oxidize which causes them to stick to arteries walls. That kind of inflammation seems to be the hardest thing to deal with...

I wouldn't say sparingly. The longest living people in Greece and Italy consume at least tbsp of EVOO per day. Needs to be high quality, though, and ideally eaten at room temperature and not heated.

You should get tested for genetic hypercholesterolemia, it sometimes is an inherited condition. Cholesterol problems can happen no matter your size. Good luck and kudos for working to manage it safely.

@@wisperiahysteria alot people think that being overweight is the reason for cholesterol but it's not our system have build up to the point that we ate so much of the wrong food that now we have to cut back on that also it's in my family history all the way back to the late 1800 that majority of my uncle had heart attack it's in our blood so it's best to stay healthy and keep it in control because if not it bothers other organs in our body because of the cholesterol

Just try it, I didn’t like them either in the beginning and now I love them! Try toast with avocado and fried egg on top, I use cheese as well but you can leave that out. And believe me, you will love it, a little salt and pepper on it and yummy 😅

Highly disagree. One should get a food allergy panel done first to see which foods a person is allergic to. I myself can not consume Wheat, dairy, most lentials and Soy is said to be very bad for you.

the vegetables oils (corn oil, carnola oil, seed oil) are full of omega 6, it's really not good for our inflammatory factor. it's creat damage in our vein arteries...this video must be amend 🙏🙏 pls. use coconut oil ,vergin coconut oil or olive oil 👌

@@allisonkrause4178 Yes! I am only 12 and my cholesterol was 214 last time I got it checked (like a few months ago). I've spoken to a nutritionist and have made my diet super strict but nothing has worked to get it down. In fact it has only gone up. My family has a history of people dying of heart attacks and my dad had one a few years ago. Luckily, he survived but its very scary and I don't know what to do. I so glad that someone can relate to me!

Just so ya know soy bean juice has sugar. I have my first high sugar blood test because of false advertising 50% less sugar and healthy. Yes i drink a lot of it i was young , but the ads giving wrong impression to normal people.

2:38 This message is confusing. You say to stay away from unsaturated fats, and in the same sentence tells us to eat omega 3 (poly-unsaturated fats) and mono-unsaturated fats. Is there some other form of unsaturated fats besides poly and mono? I know to stay clear of trans fats and saturated fats. Is there something I'm missing?

no you’ve got it right! stay away from saturated fat and trans fat but definitely eat unsaturated fats because those actually help lower cholesterol

extra light usually lot of mixed (some added canola, safflower & many more) & the anti-oxidants in olive oil, reduced a lot & not worth buying. so, either buy Extra Virgin Olive Oil (usually for drink/dressing & etc except for cooking) or Virgin Olive Oil (usually for cooking)

Good video but cooking with oil is not good ,any vegetable oil . Olive oil and coconut oil , extra virgin light olive oil ,and avocado oil . Thank you
