I mean Charlie had a point when he said that the news helicopter was too far away to make that shot. He just didn’t think about the fact that the news helicopter has to be that far away so the police helicopter can get into position.
maybe its the 'member berries, but i do recall a certain event were seal snipers knocked off a few Ethiopian ship hijackers. while on a boat, adjusting for theirs and target wave movements.
Just imagining a cop, just coming on shift, tired, drinking coffee... wearily doing a patrol... when suddenly someone hits you, crashes into a pole, and suddenly youre credited and promoted for stopping a massive chase. What a monday. Lol
Charlie and Chris are going to be the best of friends without ever talking directly to each other at this rate and I love it. I'm so invested with the lore.
9:33 a helicopter sniper is actually a real role in the force and its an extremely hard role to do due to the fact that you're literally shooting a 50 CAL round, out a moving helicopter, probably shooting at a moving target aswell
Charlie: They should have a grappling hook that shoots out from a car, twisted metal style, and reel them in. Also Charlie: A sniper from a helicopter? This isn't a video game.
@@cheshirecynic3061 He's mentioned grappling hooks a fair few times, but shit like that has already been tested and proven effective and safe, yet it's never put into commission. Those specialised police front bull-bars that fold out two poles (like a forklift) with straps entwined between them. The police car just has to get close to the suspect, the straps get wrapped around the rear wheels (completely locking it), and the straps are connected to the police car with a long tow rope. Cop car simply applies the brakes and the suspect can do nothing.
@@totallynotabot8580 commenting on bots only fulfills their purpose, its not to get attention its to look like a google account that gets interaction (e.g. a real person that can pass bot checks)
This sports style newscaster saying "please keep going please keep going" when the truck was near the kids made that moment so much more intense because you can hear his heart sink
I like to think he was hoping for another group to come by so he could have some sort of barrier between him and the cops rather than the other possible alternative
Hitting the police car at the end feels basically the same as when you get into a huge chase in GTA, almost loosing the cops only to have one spawn right in front of you.
Or, like hitting the curb that's visibly a foot away that doesn't even touch your car, still magically causes a spin out. (Older GTA's. Newer ones have likely improved on that.)
@@dylanperry3735 stopped listening to them quite a while ago, but every now and then I play the couple of songs I have of them on clone hero (on drums that is)
That moment where he just stopped after the kids crossed was horrifying; even with knowing that Charlie avoided the violent things that could be against ToS.
The police car that took him down by parking looked like he had the protractor out and was doing math. It was such a perfect disable with minimum damage
when chris said “please just keep going, please just keep going” you can literally just hear his whole vibe from before disintegrate, my heart dropped with his bro
They actually have a grappler device but it works a little differently than you described. It's a net they can lower and touch the wheel of the car in front of them, then it gets tangled around the wheel and the officer can brake to force them to stop. Really needs to be used in more places
If I had a Nickel for every police chase Charlie has reviewed where a seemingly random extra person gets arrested, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice.
Let's not forget that even though the truck was stopped, that sniper was still in a Helicopter(which even while hovering in position, isn't completely steady)so that shot was a pretty good damn shot. This definitely is the craziest one yet lol.
I've lived in SoCal my whole life, and can confirm car chases like this happen all the time, and have always happened. One of my favorite family tv gatherings as a kid was to grab the popcorn and watch the latest police chase through LA. It's a lot like watching a football game.
I feel like everything that everyone outside of California and Florida has ever heard about California and Florida is true. The sense I get is that, basically, the spawn point for conservative rednecks is in northern Florida, and the spawn point for liberal rednecks is in southern California 👍
Maybe he's thinking whether he should. It's calculated. You don't really know. So don't thank him for it. From what I've learned so far on the surface, as someone from another part of the world, caught criminals in the US who abuse or hurt children will always be targeted by other inmates to the point of being killed. So if this guy tried to do anything to the kids and get caught later, he will receive the worst treatment in prison. This guy was probably weighing it when he stared after the kids.
i was watching this live and was sick to my stomach. that crosswalk of kids was my highschool and my house is right around the corner. seeing all those kids walking through the crosswalk i used to made my stomach turn holy hell if he rammed through that. im so glad i didnt have to go home later that day with the thought of all those kids dead right infront of my house.
@@MollyHJohns dude I think you're just slightly insane.. The dude wasn't weighing it down like if it was a telltale choice to be made he was looking back at all the police behind him he even baited some of them to get out of their vehicles and then he gunned it
@@MollyHJohns It's more likely that he had no intention of killing random people. He was willing to kill police officers and endanger others, of course, but I highly doubt that this guy was considering mass murder. This guy is clearly a dangerous lunatic, but it's worth acknowledging that he had the opportunity to kill a lot of innocent people, but chose not to.
@@coffinboy556naw you gotta ask why he even stopped. His way was clear, he shoulda kept going. He stopped, though. Who knows, maybe he just wanted to wish them a good day but I'd say that's not very likely
This is terrifying. Mr. Ross (The victim) was my last year's PE teacher and my sister's current PE teacher, not too mention a family friend and just a good dude in general. I am so glad that he was alright but we will all miss that truck.
Mr Ross is the PE teacher of every person in the replies, if he wasn't you just didn't know. I'm so glad to know Mr Ross like my fellow Mr Ross knowers. Oh and don't forget the truck, we will all miss it.
My heart sank when he slowed down by those kids. He's armed, and we were all probably thinking the exact same thing. Terrying, but thank God nothing happened.

I like to think that chris (commentator) is really just a tech guy that works in the office, and then one day he noticed a car chase and started commentating from within the office, and got the job as a commentator only for when it's chases and such
chat: "a sniper from the helicopter?" charlie: "jesus christ, this isn't a video game. that would be the most unrealistic shot of all time." also charlie: "oh yeah maybe Chris can do it"
6:40 in some places you can get shot for cutting someone off, honking at someone, or scraping someone. Where I grew up it was common to get a gun pulled on you if you dared to honk at someone
Can I just say I love this particular car chase commentator? From saying "Look at this" every few seconds to being so into the car chase, he makes these chases INVIGORATING 😂
As others have said, the moment near the school kids was heart stopping. The absolute dread in the reporter's voice and the way you could hear him pleading for him to just keep going... man. That guy could have opened fire and made it a huge tragedy, or just blown straight through them.

I was thinking about that when it happened maybe he ran out of ammo or jammed the gun? Or he might have been trying to decide whether or not to shoot at them because there are multiple times where he could've just went through without hitting
1:21 if it is really a full auto machine gun, but in the shape of an assault rifle, then it’s most likely a stoner 63. Made as a support weapon like the BAR M1918, it was used in Vietnam and other war’s following it
I was watching this live with my dad and when he got to the school with all the kids walking home we were panicking so unbelievably hard, thankfully he didn't do anything to the kids.
This was my thought. Honestly, I'm so glad that whatever small spark of morality was still within him kept him from taking a hostage or just outright going on a murder spree.
LA Car Chases have been a TV spectator event since OJ’s Bronco in the 90s. It hasn’t changed, just the medium through which you’re watching them and the improvement in chase cam tech.
@@XboxCriminal”hey guys it’s Darktion364, today I asked mommy for her iPad, and she said I can use it for 1 hour, and now I’m going to troll people older than me”
8:39 theres a concept for a wheel catcher that can be mounted on the front of an SUV, basically 2 forklift style forks mounted on the grill fold down in front with some kevlar straps between them, the police driver would then ram the back corner of the pursued vehicle to get the rear wheel caught in the straps, they tangle up and the kevlar spools out to a slightly longer length keeping the cars about 1-2 car lengths from each other. once thats done the SUV slams on the breaks to bring the 2 to a stop in a much more controlled way than a pit maneuver
As someone who has lived in LA for over 30 years… when you’re out there driving on the road, it’s hard to know who’s involved in a police chase and who’s not, since everyone in California speeds down the street
Not sure what area you’ve been in, but as a native Angeleno that has been here for 26 years and going, that’s half-true. Everyone normally drives 5 above the limit on the streets. If the limit is 40, everyone will is driving 43-45. There are speedsters that will do 50+ but they aren’t as common. Now the freeways are a different story. Everyone drives above the limit on the freeways when there’s no clogged traffic, 80+ stay in the express lanes.
Holy shit when he got to those kids my heart was pounding, respect for waiting for the kids to cross atleast, could have turned out much much worse. No one wants that to happend.
9:47 As soon as Charlie started talking about the sniper shot and the intersection overlay came up it looked like it was showing the sniper's aim compensating for wind and distance
As someone who lives near LA, about 3 months ago me and my mother were caught in a hit and run when a car chase was happening coming off of a highway. The chases out here are crazy.
@@invigale well our insurance is supposed to be but nothing is really happening… we don’t have a lot of info on the car and the police department that we went to didn’t even have any sort of idea we got hit. So really we didn’t get covered on it
@@acheetah6762 thank you, we’ve been in worse accidents and were pretty fine 😅 about 7 months before this accident we got hit near a mall when a car opened their door as we were driving by while they were parked in red. The passenger mirror got ripped off, the car got scraped really badly and it took the back handle too. I suffered from the whiplash for a couple weeks since I was in passenger, but thankfully nothing serious. But obviously insurance is stingy and only covered part of it.
Charlie, L.A. is the car chase capital. Theyve been showing them live on TV forever. 20 years ago I lived there and there was one on TV seemingly every week. I remember a guy stole a soda delivery truck just to be in a televised car chase. Had another one blow right by me as I was walking home from the train station.
The fact that people got scared about him opening fire into the kids even though it didn’t happen (and probably was never his intention) shows how much of a gun problem the US has. We are completely traumatized

4:58 I feel like a lot of times people think that if someone did a crime on video that it's the end all be all. They forget that a lot of factors could go into it, coercion is first to come to mind, if they're being held at gunpoint and forced to do things then they aren't guilty of the crime. This is why people are "innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt".
