Naaah, I've seen multiple chases from the news station, and this guy's ALWAYS the reporter, that's his only job. And he's always had this energy and voice. Literally the only times from this video I saw uncharacteristic from the reporter was his weird gulp thing and the "...I hate to tell you, UH, I MEAN, I'm happy it's over..."
As a Californian, I am very surprised with how attentive the rest of the drivers were. Also surprised no civilians with road rage followed him with a bat in the trunk or worse
now I'm not saying anybody should ever do this but holy shit the adrenaline rush from a 1 and a half hour police chase must be an adrenaline junkie's wet dream
not exactly the same scenario, but one time (in a neighboring city to where this took place) a car crashed into the second story of a building. My mom texted me the news article when i was on the train... later on the subsequint busride I looked up and saw the exact building where the car crashed. A hole in the second story. It was wild. I have a few friends who live in this city and saw this on the news when it was happening and kept on looking outside to see if they could see anything XD
I live in the area and thought it would be nice to mention that the neighborhood pulled together and raised money to replace the work truck. The family who’s truck was stolen saved for almost 3 years to purchase a truck to run their own business. This incident occurred 2 weeks after the truck was purchased. It was a sad story with a happy ending all thanks to locals ❤️
The real question is why was the idiot woman holding her man back from stopping his truck being stolen??? The why she grabbed her mans shirt is exactly how I would expect the woman to behave is she was on the crooks side. She did it to her own man
@@ThaTurminator You don't know the age of the woman, could've been her son or a nephew etc. Also do you not know human's fight or flight response? We do it without thinking. She wanted to flee back inside where she knew they'd be safe and drag him with her.
@@dauphongii That's $5.90 per gallon, if you measure in liter in your country you have to convert. In my country we pay around $2 per liter, which is around $7.60 per gallon.
@@noposguau447 still can hear him talking. not really much difference. and the video keeps getting paused. this cant be solved by lowering the volume if someone keeps pausing so....
The news chat during thus stream was hilarious. Everyone was saying he done but then immediately started spamming 5 stars in chat, and it happened twice.
"last chase, which was an away chase in san antonio, he picked up 4 crashes early, and last year he averaged 3.4 clippings a chase, tied for 4th all time"
honestly we should let this guy go and give him a four hour head start to see how much his police chase skills have improved after he's had time to rest and meditate on what he's learned from this one, he might just be able to beat his personal best here we have organized crime, now we need competitive crime
They can only do spike strips once they've isolated him on an area with no civilians like a highway. This guy was genius cos he kept avoiding areas without people and kept driving around so they couldn't predict his next steps.
Someone get that commentator a medal, his rapid-fire pace and ability to keep up with the action while still speaking very clearly during an absolutely insane situation was amazing, and it was even funnier how much he was obviously loving the whole thing.
you think if they didnt stop him when he was in the van and doing nothing but shooting millions of sparks on the street, they wouldve at least stopped him sooner when its literally next to a pump of highly flammable liquid
@@TheGrizzlo503 but you're acting like you've never seen gasoline on the floor next to a gas station when pumping gas. It was still definitely a possibility
Charlie can play any horror game there is, watch any horror movie there is, go through any haunted house at a theme park, actually get jumped by a deer, and not even blinking during any of the jumpscares, but a news commentator following the scene of a police chase makes him jump. True king right there
@@l3ftie578 I wouldn't use the term scary for loud and sudden. More like surprised or shocked. That's why most people consider games that rely on jumpscares only as not very scary.
@@l3ftie578 seriously I bet you could make a “scary” game with the most boring setting of a character working in an office, as long as you put in a bunch of loud sudden sounds
Tbf in my neck of the woods he would've been shot if he didn't give it up at that second car. Don't know why they didn't. He was a clear threat already.
This was the craziest chase I ever saw Kudos to the cameraman and the announcer for keeping everyone up to speed and being consistent. They both deserve a raise I died laughing when the announcer let it slip that he was disappointed that the chase came to an end 🤣✋ what a wild ride !!
this feels like when you play a video game and you are supposed to be stealthy, but you fuck it up, but instead of restarting you start to go on a full rampage for literal hours, knowing full well you will have to restart again
To be honest, the broadcast was missing a color commentator who provided backstory and statistics of the player on screen. I don't have the time to catch up to all the matches of the season, I didn't know this guy.
@@BlackWhiteCloud "Last season he managed to steal one truck and a bicycle, but now aims to break the record for the most stolen vehicles during one police chase. Leagues records breakdown after the intermission."
If it were, this driver would be defending world champion, I'd imagine. Either that or he had divine protection/plot armour, there were countless times he could have been stopped or even gotten himself killed during this chase.
On the plus side, the owner started a gofund me so he can recoup the cost of his materials and car and got over $120,000. LAPD told him he can't get his car and tools back since it's evidence.
I kept thinking the same thing. Worried about that poor guy losing his work truck and his tools. Not to mention having his house invaded by a crazy man!
I ran from the police after a misunderstanding, and they deployed multiple cars to search for me. I literally crawled through hedges to avoid detection until they found me and the air was cleared 😂
The thrill of this isn't even just the impressive but crazy driving - it's how everybody came together to make this a full production. The zoom in on the weed wacker was incredible.
I love the end where the guy commentating apologizes to the audience because it’s over, but then snaps out of it realizing it is and actual police chase with real danger and not some game that he is commentating over. He snapped out of it and that is hilarious.
I love how he's disappointed but immediately noticed it. I wonder if he watches car chase videos and commentates over them at his house or something, lol. Just really likes his job.
That guy wouldn’t have been held back when the perpetrator showed up to steal his car. Would’ve been dealt with then and there. Bless our stand your ground laws lol
One of the things I noticed is that the news helicopter camera had some kind of sensor in it that could tell exactly what road it was pointed at in real time.. pretty cool
the person who was narrating this or like announcing or whatever sounds like they were having a good time watching it go down with popcorn and everything 😂
That commentator genuinely has a talent for casting. It'd be kinda funny if his career blows up after this. Honestly added so much value to an already nuts chase
I watched this in real time. It’s definitely one of the craziest chases I’ve ever seen. The unlucky van owner is a florist and he uses it for deliveries. The truck owners are landscapers. They both had gofundme’s and the van owner got a new used van and the landscapers got a new used truck. They are both small business owners.
as a proud landscaper myself, I 100% feel for those truck owners. having something like this happen would be devastating to anyone, and knowing that the truck was probably highly important for their work must have been terrifying. Innocent businesses just trying to make a living and lend a hand to people in need getting screwed over by this guy's joyride
When I was a mechanic I had to fix some wiring on a mid 2000s chevy truck (same as the chevy van he stole) and I was shocked how easy it would be to basically hotwire it. Its not like the movies where you touch 2 wires together and run but it was fairly simple if you know what you're doing
Imagine going through an almost hour long car chase, stealing two cars, breaking and entering, causing thousands of dollars in damage, and ultimately ending by being cornered at a gas station. You get shot and your like “well shit this is the end of the line.” Then they pull you out and you look over and see a random dude who’s not related in any way to the chase getting roughed up and arrested. I’d be flabbergasted at that point.
Imagine the giga brain you'd think he has if getting that innocent driver arrested was his actual master plan all along, and it went all according to plan.
Well you have to remember that 1: truck tires for the most part are meant for heavy duty punches and 2: tire brands make a huge difference in the strength and durability if a tire
i remember i was at a sports bar with my parents and my brother during this chase, they played it on the jumbo screen and the whole place tuned in it was crazy to watch live
I feel sorry for the man who worked his butt off for it, he was so close to stopping that asshole, if it weren't for his wife grabbing him by his shirt collar and pulling him like he was a dog. Glad they got another truck, but I can tell you that man probably won't feel the same about it.
@@Initial_Gopnik Don’t get mad at the wife that guy was crazy driving around almost killing people. She probably was pulling him back because she didn’t want him to get hurt you don’t know what that other guy was capable of
I doubt the man would've been hurt too bad when he had the upper hand, if that nutjob had a gun or was seriously capable of hurting them (which he wasn't, he was unarmed), don't you think he would've pulled whatever he had on them? So that they wouldn't even try to stop him? There was obviously a bit of a struggle in the house as well, before they came out to the driveway. I get the legal aspect, it is California, they would've found a way to make the victim a criminal.
I saw this chase first hand on a TV at a little Mexican restaurant and I was losing my crap. Me and my dad saw it and began audibly yelling at certain points out of pure excitement and intrigue. We finished our food around 20 minutes in, but stayed for the extra hour just to finish off the chase and make sure we didn't miss out on anything. We thought we were some of the only people to witness the chase, but now seeing Charlie react to it is absolutely insane. I'm glad he's enjoying it as much as I was when I was watching the chase live.
i know what you mean! i was in LA at the time, and i saw this entire thing while at a Resturaunt, and i was legit going "holy shit!" and "jesus dude!" audibly so EVERYONE heard me haha!
Man as crazy and stupid these pursuits are, when they're "a good driver" it's all the more entertaining when no one gets hurt, other than some damage claims. This guy really lived his final moments of freedom.
@@SilverTheFlame I mean, hotwiring that van behind a cop car, with a heli watching over him. That was straight up some gta shit. Jumping a car obviously isn't the most impressive thing, but doing it in such an intense chase with a cop car behind you and a heli watching over u must be insane lol. I do agree with u that he did appear to have no sense of where he was going, still those driving skills were impecable.
Cops aren’t trained to handle crazy. They train on people who fear some sort of authority, so when you meet an actual crazy person they can get away with killing like 15 people or breaking 100s of laws.
Man is actually a protagonist, wtf. Literally no clipping. Obviously a lot of this was thanks to the insane dodging skills of the other drivers. If this went down in here in Florida, he'd have crashed in literally 5 seconds 😭
So many (young and jobless) people are laughing at this chase while many responsible car owners got fcked especially the truck owner. "dOnT wOrRy, iNsUrAnCe wILL cOv-" STFU. First of all, the pathetic loser of a criminal won't be held liable due to most likely not having insurance and the lax Cali laws. Second, insurance companies are shady af and some may raise monthly premiums just because a subspecies of a human decided to fck up everyone's day.
I'm positive you guys have no clue that police are deciding to back off and not pursue dangerous evasion techniques. Police training is incredibly lack-luster, but vehicle training is a different story. Most departments train in their lots doing maneuvers every month and make it mandatory for every officer to attend and pass tests. Too many people have died due to incompetent driving from police in the past, so it's one of the few things most US police are very well trained in. They absolutely knew his obvious moves, and did the right thing to not push the pursuit to be more dangerous. Just as a source, I did ECU tuning for my city's LEO high-pursuit vehicles for a few years, I got to attend their training seminars on numerous occasions and even got to participate. You'd be surprised that most of the techniques used were avoidance and de-escalation. The PIT-maneuver (TVI) is a last-resort technique for an era before learning that de-escalation works 99% of the time. BSR Inc. that came up with the technique have been sued numerous times over the unsafe used of TVI. Even they have denounced the use of it in the last few years.
Fr, I think it makes sense why the guy was acting irrationally and shit, just randomly got hit and surrounded by gunshots with his family in the car. I'd be losing my shit and not sure what to do even if thr police was telling me what to do. I think the officers really did just assume he was the driver since both cars were white and it seems like those officers got to the scene late.
He'll have a good case. Probably settle for near a mill at least (this is an expensive area)... The poor kids are traumatized for years about police now.
i mean they might have thought he's an accomplice trying to help him out. It's completely fine to detain him there and then figure out wtf going on. It's not like the cops know any better there. Buut if he was arrested and cited for whatever then its fucked.
@@ihavenoidea4727 Yes because an "accomplice" is what you call someone whos collision caused the hour long chase to end. Accomplice to society is more like it
@Dirty Monkey again though. What can you do without breaking protocol. Besides the good size amount of fuck ups from the cops, they can't exactly gta him
3:23 - I never tried hot wiring. But the way I assume it works is. With the key, its basically a switch between turning the engine on and keeping it on. On older cars, most likely these are just three wires connected to the lock cylinder. One supplying power and the key will switch that power to the other two wires. With this in mind, all you have to do is connect the wire with power to one of the other two wires. Modern cars or at least with my car, my key has a chip in it. It'll try to verify the chip before allowing you to turn on the car. I'm assuming, there are a ton of wires that are used to communicate with that chip. It will be nearly impossible to guess which wire to connect at what time.
Charlie: Gets Jumpscared by horror games, no response Charlie: Watches scary videos, no response Charlie: Watches police chase video, *gets scared by a regular voice*
Feel bad for the bystander that got arrested. Similar thing happened to me in Seal beach, didn't get arrested but the police forcefully took my totaled car in for investigation. It was also a chase that ended in a head onto me, shots were fired. I was sent a collection notice for $2000 for storage of that car, another $1000 for towing (to a lot 3 miles away from the crash), then a bit more just to tow it home so they stop charging more for storage. The police told me they cannot do anything about it. Hope this guy will recover quickly.
Damn, that sucks. It's just not fair sometimes, huh? How are you doing now, did insurance pay for the car or did you perhaps get back on your feet with no help from them?
@@netts2315 Doing great, thanks for asking. A month before the crash, I downgraded my insurance to 1-way since i was young, broke, and thinking nothing bad ever happened for all the years I've been driving. Of course the other dude had no insurance, no job either. He was drunk and had 2 kids inside. Figured I didn't want to waste my time going to court because I just started my career. The only thing I'm pissed at now is how the police handled things, especially the one that opened fire into the car from the rear passenger side, he was lucky that he missed both of the kids by mere inches.
Yeah that bit in the deadend in the suburb was so weird, do they not have tire spikes they just drop out their door? Because that would have been it if they did Also why tf did they ram him into a civilian car at the end after he had been imobilised, and why tf did they then start shooting, his car was stuck and he had nowhere to run
@@Cheesepuff8 I feel like at that point they realized that he was willing to do anything to get out of that situation, and if he was able to escape with the car *again* he could kill someone on the road. Also, they’re American cops so they’re a little loosey goosey with discharging their guns.
I don't understand why they didn't shoot out the tires of the van they surrounded... They literally let him go where he could possibly kill a family on the road when they had him. What kind of police are these? Stupid af
28:01 was listening to this in the background while doing a game, and Charlie said "catastrophe" right as the word "CATASTROPHE" came on-screen in the game idk i just thought that was kinda cool
Love how the guy in the helicopter was like "i think this is where it ends, i hate to say it" but corrects himself, like NAH you know you were having fun
I’m from SoCal and this stuff happens all the time. Looks like he’s making his way to LA. I think he had a destination in mind. This happens so often that’s why the news is so on top of the editing haha
Knowing the chase is an hour and forty minutes long, I just kept wondering “how does he get out of this one?” and he escaped so many times, to the point where I thought he would even get out of that last situation.
I'm really surprised they didn't open fire when he was ramming their car. At that point, they can shoot you. He's not even black, so there is nothing to worry about if they killed him. I'd like to know the WHOLE story to this.
