"Just keep the lights on" I can remember, back when I was 9yrs old and afraid of the dark. My uncle said "if Jason was actually coming to kill you, do you think the light being on will stop him?" and followed it up with "at least with the light out you won't know he's there and it'll be quick." My mum didn't ask him to babysit ever again, lol.
Portrait of God is so delightfully scary. i saw it a while back, and it's still one of my favourite short horror films i've seen. i love the fact that the image is still there after the screen is lifted, and formatting it as a school presentation is a fantastic way to give the exposition without being unrealistic about it. i absolutely adore the ending, the fact that she had this "religious experience" that seemingly lasted for a few minutes, but in reality she's been standing there, staring at a blank screen, completely frozen and unblinking is incredible. not to mention her undying faith in the thing she's supposedly running from. it's one of the few short horror films that is equally as horrific every time you watch it.
does no one here know how projectors work? XD of course the image will still be there it's really the moment it moved that got me because projectors still project on any surface until turned off lmao
@@freshplayz0072 yeah i know. i think the fact that the image isn’t warped or anything when it comes down is eerie, since that would happen even if there was a wall directly behind it. plus the creature moves after it comes down. but yeah, i did consider that, i think regardless it’s still a terrifying image.
Fun thing to think about: when you have the infinite mirrors setup, you are technically looking into the past. Each reflection takes just the tiniest bit of time to reach the other mirror and then your eyes, so if they are big enough to see enough iterations, you can actually see the delay
@@vintage-radioThey would have to be pretty big. Consider that light travels around 7 and a half times the circumference of the earth in a second (in a vacuum).
You're always looking into the past, doesn't matter what you're looking at. Since reality is just based on your perception, you're always existing in the past, you're living in the past.
So I worked in Walmart during the quarantine, so the changing rooms were closed... one woman's 'solution' to this was to legit undress and change IN FRONT of the changing rooms... worst part, she seemed BAFFLED at why we asked her to stop doing this... we also had to stop a number of people undressing their *children* in the aisles to have them try on clothes... what is it about clothes shopping that makes humans just instantly lose all their brain cells
it only seems unrealistic to me because i don’t understand why someone would wanna get to a fitting room so bad they would go up that creepy of a staircase 😭 but people completely ignoring signs and stuff i definitely realistic
As a huge indie horror fan, that "God Portrait" was legit fascinating to me...felt like i was holding my breath the whole time. I know you won't see this, but thanks for sharing dude!
The Portrait of God short film was done so well!! There were no unnecessary jump scares which usually ruins all suspense and mystery of the thing we're meant to be afraid of when watching these horror stuff. And love the idea that for us we saw her having that outer body experience for a few mins, but in truth it had been 3+ hours
I know, the way she'd been in a trance for 3 hours was craaaazy. The way she smiled at the end even though she was clutching her necklace so hard she was bleeding too gave me goosebumps.
That, or they have cats 😂 You close the bedroom door at night and it doesn't matter what side of the door they're on... They either want in to be with you, or they want to leave to go eat or use the litterbox, and you can betch'er arse it'll be non stop all night, unless you just keep it open 🤣
@@FilthTribeFTP or large dogs... one of mine will headbutt the door open in the middle of the night, and the resulting bang in pitch darkness is scary af to wake up to
The first video reminds me of my friend with schizophrenia. It was so hard for her tell what was and wasn't real. Eventually a stray cat adopted her. The old boy was terrified of everyone except her so she knew if the cat was chilling, the things she was seeing probably weren't real. (I have narcolepsy and most of the hallucinations I get are sounds or shadows in just in my peripheral vision. No where near as scary as schizophrenia because it's more obvious my brain is just dreaming while awake - but enough to creep me out sometimes)
My ex had that. Spent 14 years together. It got to the point where nothing worked especially if he went off his meds. He became progressively more and more violent. Jan 23' he tried to strangle me. He was arrested. I took that chance to gtfo. I left, got a 5-year CPO, and haven't seen him since. It's been tough navigating through trauma. Some nights the nightmares keep me awake all night. I will say that that type of behavior is NOT normal for a schizophrenic. I think because he was also overusing Adderal he became aggressive because in 14yrs he's never done anything.
omg I do the same with my dog. I don't have schizophrenia but I get really paranoid and lowkey delusional when I'm home alone, esp at night. My dog has bad anxiety around anyone new, even if she's met them before, and she barks when ANYONE knocks on the door. So if someone was breaking in, she would tell me before I even heard it lol.
My dad told me a story once of being on my great grandfathers property which is slightly out of town off of a highway and telling me that he wasn't sure if it was because he had malaria or anti malaria medication but that he had hallucinations at times but wasn't really aware of how bad things were until one day he calmly walked into his room leaned down and said that the front door to the house was left open and he closed it but to look into the room and tell him if he saw anything. My dad said no shaking his head all confused and his grandfather suddenly looked super relieved and we still aren't sure if he just let it slip or if he felt my dad was old enough now to know whats going on but as he walked away he very lightly said "I saw a bear sleeping"
Dude! You showed the video my dad was in, Tom Racine!! It was the "Portrait of God" one, he did the voice that said "Its beautiful" at the end of the recording :) I'm really glad you liked it Jack, I always love these videos :))
as a nighttime security guard i can guarantee that the dark and solitude REALLY does fuck with your head at times especially if you are someplace old or normally lively during the day, like the old but still popular local shopping mall i work at.
fun fact: parallel mirrors are actually very commonly considered to be portals for fae/the supernatural and because i believe in those things, that last one is freaky as fuck 🤠
In my house my bathroom has two mirrors facing each other on opposite walls and one in the center wall. We also have a spiral staircase. I often get the feeling of being watched at night when I'm upstairs. You can hear footsteps and knocking occasionally in the dead of night. A lot of knocking in our tiny attic. I've been up there during the day and never see anything (I suspected a squirrel or rats).

He’s said it before, but Sean and Jack are interchangeable in Ireland. His name is Sean, but both his mother and friends both frequently called him Jack growing up. So for him, it’s like William and Bill or Theodore and Teddy.
@@EStramel09 Oh thanks for that. When I first started watching him, I legit thought his name was Jack. Then every once in a while I'd hear the name Sean, maybe like when I saw some of the collabs with the other Irish dudes, and I was like who the f*ck is Sean? 🤣 I didn't realize they were interchangeable.
The last two were definitely the best imo, but Portrait of God was maybe my favorite short film I've ever seen. I absolutely love the ideas in it and it was executed so perfectly. These are the people I'd love to see writing and directing movies, it's so refreshing to see something unique.

Today's Fact: In 1977, a plane crashed into a plane carrying the wife of the Yugoslavian ambassador to the United States; both survived the crash, but both had previously been involved in a plane crash in 1972.
These are literally my absolute favorite videos from your channel. They got me so into short horror films and short films in general. Please never stop making these videos
I love these short horror films and think they’re all great in their own way, but “Portrait of God” was beyond phenomenal. I can’t put into words how amazing that was. It’s been a while since I’ve been genuinely terrified from a video/movie/etc., but this one pulled it off.
The "Portrait of God" film was *by far* the scariest one to me. The way it was just so intensely unnerving the whole way through, with the excellent attention to detail.
The concept of a room with mirrors is a doubly terrifying one, due to the idea of mirrors being portals to the other side, it's why the whole fun house mirror thing sets many people on edge.
Idk if it’s just me, but I can’t stand looking at my entire face for more than 5 minutes. If I look any longer, it starts to freak me out because my face starts to look off.
Another thing I liked about the concept of The Changing Room was that it played on the theory of portals formed from two mirrors facing each other. It almost brings a paranormal element to that video too, I loved how simple yet incredibly creepy it was.
the Portrait of God one was possibly the most incredible short horror ive ever seen, that was SO good and unsettling holy fuck i loved that!! Thank you for sharing such awesome works!
i saw it the other day when i was going down the horror rabbit hole and i didnt even notice the eyes behind her at the start so it was cool to see from his perspective
The first one is terrifying to me. I have nyctophobia (the phobia of the dark instead of just being afraid of it) and the first video is the closest thing I’ve seen to what I actually experience in my everyday (or rather night) life. It actually showed how it feels for me, and how I act on really bad nights. Like almost exactly. I don’t know if that was intentional, but still. Remember it’s ok if you’re scared of the dark as an adult. The dark is pretty scary, and phobia’s aren’t something to be ashamed of.
@@nommingzombieh3385 Scared of both equally, scared of the dark because it’s makes everything hard to see and feels like your just in nothing, left alone with your thoughts. Scared of what’s in the dark, for well obvious reasons.
You have kids who worry about noises and the dark who grow up and worry about normal adult things, and then there's adults like me who still sometimes worry about the noises along with all the normal adult stresses. 😂 I love when my brain just has to remind me of everything I'm terrified of when I'm trying to sleep.
When I was a kid, the house I lived in was pretty old, and my bedroom closet door was slightly warped out of shape. This would make it open on it’s own whenever it felt like it. Traumatizing.
There’s a saying that you should never place mirrors facing each other because they create portals. I really like that idea, it’s great for all kinds of spooky things
Fun fact for those who don't know: Portrait of God was made by the same person who made the Home Videos one that Sean watched a while back. The one with the camcorder in the basement. Thought that was cool. They honestly did a great job on both but it's crazy to see the improvement over time as well
I love seeing all the comments of Horror lovers. I know some of you guys are like me, I’m 23 and been watching Jack since the old days of 2013 but I’ll tell you Horror has always been my favorite genre. So seeing him do videos like this is so nostalgic and amazing.
I grew up in a house with a decent amount of mirrors, my mom was very spiritual and thought that telling me mirrors are somewhat linked to spirits would make me feel better about how uncomfortable I felt around them as she was very positive but all it did was make me think about the fact that if good spirits can connect to mirrors so can the bad, and that made me feel even worse, but now I had the idea they could travel through the mirrors, she tried lol
The first one is genuinely my most terrifying nightmare, I always watch Sean's videos under a blanket and after every jumpscare I try to look outside the blanket just like the guy in the video, sheesh that one will stick for a while with me
I've always had an intense fear of mirrors. I heard that mirrors are portals and I've always been scared to look into them out of fear of seeing some demon in there. I have a mirror and a tv that faces my bed and sometimes I get paranoid that when I open my eyes something will be inside the screen/glass.
If mirrors makw you uneasy, I highly suggest not having one facing your bed, it could be negatively affecting your quality of sleep which could also fuel the paranoia/fear! Even if you know there is nothing to be afraid of, don't disregard your own comfort, you deserve to feel safe❤
If it makes you feel any better we have plenty of mirrors and I've never encountered any paranormal events regarding them. In any case, as @@jennymattback3780 said you should probably remove the mirror or cover it up with a curtain if you use it. You could also replace it with a painting or one of those mirrors that can be flipped so the mirror is against the wall.
I usually cover mine with a towel and keep my head down when I go to the bathroom during the night. Definitely move the one that faces the bed and never ever put two mirrors across from each other. I have an intense fear of them too and most people don’t get it
I remember watching that Lure one a while back and not knowing why it was so friggin unsettling to me. Someone in the comments said that, among other things, it sets up a rule by making it seem like the kid needs to open the window for the thing to get in, so you feel safe as long as the windows closed. Then, it breaks the rule. And the window. I thought that was pretty neat.
That first one gave me flashbacks to my childhood. I saw very realistic hallucinations of people and bugs in the dark. The people would just stand or sit there like statues, and if I stared hard at them sometimes they'd sway back and forth. It always scared tf out of me, but I actually got used to it. In fact, one christmas night I was like 5 yrs old and I remember vividly waking up in the middle of the night, and wandering around my aunt's house in the darkness. I 'saw' my aunt and cousins and others all standing and sitting around in the living room, except they weren't real. They were like frozen in time statues or something, and I remember my tiny brain not being sure if this was something scary or neat, because I just had no concept of hallucinations. I remember crawling back into my bed eventually and staring out the window at a street light until morning. Thankfully I'm in my 30s now and I only start hallucinating whenever I get very stressed out. It's kinda become my little warning system to say "okay time to take a break and relax"
i'm so glad you covered portrait of god, it's one of the best horror short films i've watched, i was sitting in my dining room during the day watching it and i barely made it through, i was terrified
[The Changing room] 29:02 My family owns a hair salon and has since before I was born. Their mirrors are exactly like that. You can see infinitely from the side profiles and from the front/back. It's super cool when the salon is full of people, but when you're there alone (especially after hours at night) it's a singularly offputing experience. I had to try to ignore them on many late night deep cleaning sessions during 2020 (we stayed open because we couldn't afford not to but sanitized the whole store every night)
As a kid, I used to think the shadows in the corner of my room were people standing there in the night. I hated pulling the blanket over my head, made me nervous that I couldn’t see anything, but the fear got so bad that I had to convince myself that if I had the blanket up to my nose that whatever monster that was after me either wouldn’t see or recognize me lol. Also as a kid, there was a changing room that had a three way mirror set up that you could adjust, and if you stood in front of the middle one you could pull the other two on the sides closer making a triangle of mirrors, it was trippy but my brother and I loved messing with it.
Hell, I watched the first insidious movie when I was like 12, and I can't sleep without light for several days straight lol, was being soo paranoid at night... Now I turned to a horror fan though, enjoy the psychological types more
@@qinyima5693 saaaame! I watched that as a kid as well, that scene where that ghost keeps saying “he’s got your baby, he’s got your baby” absolutely terrified me lol. And now I am also a horror fan, crazy how that works out
@@momojamojamo3197 Omg I remember that scene bruh, so creepy indeed🥲 It feels nice to know someone had similar experience as me, wish you have a wonderful day bro, and life too ;)
i cant believe I've been watching Sean for ten years this month. i started watching when i was 10 and now I'm 20 years old. its crazy how fast the time flies and how different everything is from then. thank you for being you, Sean!
I've been watching for the same amount of time, it's so crazy to think about. I remember coming home from school and binging happy wheels videos. Time flies
I turned 17 on the 12th!! Been watching him for about as long as I can remember. I remember being there when he released New Videos of his first Undertale playthrough and Happy Wheels!
Portrait of God was absolutely my favorite. It shows how things can bring a response of intrigue and fear without needing to be big and loud. The moment his eyes moved to look at her was insanely good. I also imagine that yeah, with how biblically accurate angels look I imagine god looks just as terrifying but probably more in an uncanny sense. it portrays that great. good shit
the second video was so creepy until she actually revealed that she was a killer. I'd rather the whole play out normally without the guy being poisoned and just having a normal very unsettling dinner with the lady. Does anyone else agree? Either way, this is probably my favorite episode of this series.
I think you do have to eventually give some kind of hint, but yeah it works best when it’s subtle enough to make us think about it and question ourselves.
Call it perfect timing. Got the urge to binge all the scariest videos Jack did and this pops into my recommended feed as soon as I finished the playlist.
the portrait of God is one of my favourit things ive seen in a while. what you said about the idea of God being terrifiyng to look at reminded me of the ‘biblically accurate’ angels that get thrown around these days. how truly biblically accurate they are is debatable but the repeating of “be not afraid” and the bewildering descriptions we get of them is fascinating to me. if angels are scary to humans with just a fraction of the power that God holds, it makes total sense for God would be terrifying to us
I was gonna post a similar comment too 😂 but then I read that his family calls him jack as a nickname. Can’t confirm 100% but that would make sense then why he said it.
The sweet dreams one (the 1st short film) was so close to what I experience as someone with schizophrenia. When it’s dark, I can see shadows in the shape of a person, and I sense some sort of presence in the dark corners in my apartment or even right behind me. I know it’s not real but it is so difficult to not believe it even a little. During the day, I’m paranoid of the real people I meet instead lol. I’m glad that I don’t actually see dead people or monsters. Thank god, because I’d die of fright
I was wondering if the guy in the video maybe had Schizophenia, it looked how I imagined it might. You have all my respect for dealing with the condition, and I hope you are at a point where daily life is enjoyable or that you get to that point.
Jack one more comment about how thrilled and absolutely thankful i am to have had watched you for over 10 years i have missed some of your videos when i was younger due to a lot of family drama and things but man am i ready to dive back in to your videos i just wanted to say thank you for helping me with the family trauma i had as i really went through a lot.
I'm glad you watch Dylan Clark's _Portrait of God._ That one left me feeling profoundly unnerved upon first seeing it, no cheap jump scares and just abandoning the viewer within a gulf of unanswerable questions and skin-crawling ambiguity.
The first video gave me chills, cause that is probably the best representation I can think of for sleep paralysis. Ringing in the ears, sometimes unable to move. Visual hallucinations. God I hate that stuff.
I introduced you two my little sister and she loves you, I’m really happy that you bring so much happiness to my sister as you did to me when I was younger. Love you Jack ❤
Its cool seeing you watch Christopher Cox films! He is my favorite indie filmmaker. It's nice to see his work getting out there to popular youtubers. Nice video jack!
The portrait of God one is really neat, I love it when authors do interesting things with the concept of God and/or angels. My favorite examples of it are the short stories "Upon the Dull Earth", by Phillip K Dick (also responsible for Minority Report and the story that was adapted to Blade Runner) and, especially, "Hell is the Absence of God", by Ted Chiang which can be found in the book "Stories of Your Life and Others" (all of his stories here are great, one of them is the one that was adapted to the movie Arrival).
Portrait of God is my favorite short horror film. It's subtle and slow and it shows just enough to be scary. I feel like unnecessary jumpscares relieve the tension. Also the projector's light at the end looks like a glory. Nice details.
Man that first one hit home. When I was about 16 I woke up and looked across the room, saw my mom and dad standing there in the darkness, barely could make them out, blood pouring from their nose and mouths. I bolted for my parents room in a panic, they were fine.
The last video was my favorite. I was shouting at my computer. The slow crawl through the mirrors made my skin crawl. I knew that the entity hadn't left but I still got confused and then surprised when it showed up next to her. Very cool use of perspectives. I love it!
I think the "ignore it" One was interesting, because itu could be like a skeleton in the closet, like a family issue that they think as long as the ignore it, it will go away, but it slowly destroys their family.
The portrait of god one and the last one were SUPER good. I really loved those two. The first one was pretty decent too, I liked it a lot. But those last two, whoa.
I'm surprised I didn't realise Ill was by Max Verehin right away, his style is so unique. Both his illustrations and his 3D works are incredible, he's one of the most skilled horror artists of recent times.
18:40 the fleshy bloody critters in this snippet make me so mental,, they remind me of bloodborne in a way so now im just thinking of bloodborne with these graphics (im always thinking of bloodborne i cant stop (the worms are in my head))
I know this sounds silly but one of my biggest fears is religion and spirituality, so the video about the depiction of god really hit close to home and was by far one of the most relatable and scariest videos for me.
@@ghostder_ I don't think that any fear is silly. Thank you for being confident enough to share this here. Out of sheer curiosity, may I ask what aspect of spirituality/religion scares you? As a Hindu, I think that religion can explain many facets of our reality (from the origin of consciousness to the creation of the universe). For many, it's also a way to be a part of a good community (the keyword there is "good"). As someone who follows Advaita Vedānta, I don't even think that focusing too much on a personal God is required. Simply doing the right thing to create a conducive environment for us to reach a higher level of our own consciousness (beyond the transient identities) can be sufficient. This can also be a source of happiness as one learns to restrict unnecessary desires. I believe that even Dr Harris, a prominent atheist, finds Advaita Vedānta to be useful. Anyway, I hope that your day and the remainder of the year will go well. Best of luck for 2024! Namaste and love from India! 🙏🇮🇳☮️☮️
I've never heard of this fear before. Would you mind me asking what brought it up? I personally have a fear of the ocean because of the fact that we don't know what's down there and I have an overactive imagination lol.
