Why does it seem... that although this is a robot, a synthetic creation... Here's a gang of people, and they are one way or another, beating the life out of someone, human or no. Am I the only one here who sees the fucking inhuman ugliness of this? Because this is how so many others see other human beings, let alone AI. I am Autistic. I have had to fight for my life before simply because strangers hated me being different, and could not accept that. Everyone has their excuses, don't they?
@nohandel
@nohandel 2 года назад
@@darda2449 Being different makes some very uncomfortable. This is about all that arises from trying to intergrate. Here the integration changes the lives of those that are being joined. They have awesome skills, learn fast and are non confrontational with no creativity or heart yet. That is what they came to learn. To learn this they take jobs. Chef embraced the discipline of the machine and was unaware his prodigy was fighting to save people's jobs. He assumed he didn't care but he actually cared for them all. Please watch again with fresh eyes and heal the pain of your past. You must be awesome to have gotten through that shit. Turn that shit into manure and grow yourself a New and Happy Garden. Full of things you Love 😍 You are a great writer, share how you are still happy after the shitstorm 😀 🌊🎉💃💐

@@markfergerson2145 I am listening. My comment was base on the AI not having a heart. I am glad you have shared your experiences. I have spent my life masking my different to make others comfortable too ☺️ I've had the shit beaten out of me on more than one occasion. I had no idea they were so angry being near me being carefree. I didn't know they heard stories about boogeywoman and thought I was that. Casting me into their dRama. I know myself better and I know their pain better. I choose humour now and am learning alot from how it is received. Pain can be transformed into a Magical Healing. The bigger the pain the bigger the power. Everything is a Choice. Good can sometimes turn very bad and bad can sometimes turn very good ☺️
@darda2449
@darda2449 2 года назад
@@markfergerson2145 Mark, thank you for your personal insight. WE know! I'm standing side by side with you, my brother. I don't consider myself a part of humanity anymore. I, too, despise violence but I am a skilled and formidable fighter still at 62 years of painful age, the old wounds in my bones aching as I write these words. You may heal, but the scars, you see, remain. Always. I know most "normal" people would never dream of harming me themselves... but at the same time, I also know from experience that they would stand by and let me be beaten or murdered, abused, insulted, and wronged. I know, because these same people bullied me from a job I had held for 20 years. You can't fight an organization. People I had helped in a thousand ways, many of whom I had stood up for and saved from being fired or disciplinary action, watched while I was harassed and bullied, falsely accused, and tormented until I had to leave. I'm now struggling to survive on a tiny government handout, for the first time in 46 years in the workforce. Leita Jones, I allow that you are a good person. You seem to be. But there is no gold at the end of a rainbow for people such as Mr. Fergerson and I. No one gives a flying fuck. And I'm not playing their games of pretend. William's beating is beating me. I would have been breaking heads, frankly. Human heads. He was a better man than any one of those worthless sacks of shit.

As someone that has worked in a kitchen for the better part of the last 25 years, Chef Pu wasn't an actor; he was a seasoned chef. This is one of the best films here. I believed every minute of it. Well shot, written, directed, acted, and the sound design... top notch. My first thought when the credits rolled: "When can I see rest of the movie?" Would love to see the second act having Chef Pu remind Qiang of his love of cooking (especially seeing as Qiang chose to stick with Chef instead of the mob), and work towards beating the machines in ethic, instead of violence. With act three being a John Henry style bout, cementing that cooking is an art of emotion that can't be replicated by machines; all while losing to the efficiency of a machine (harkening back to the "toona" frozen dinner). Restaurant owner then fires all humans for profits. *ONE YEAR LATER* Restaurant is empty again because all they can provide is the same formulated "toona", and patrons are bored with it. There is a lot of brilliance here in it's idea, and storytelling, that is often overlooked in film. Big fan, here.

That was crazy and intense violence against William. Even tough he couldn't feel anything, it was hard watching him being beaten. I was horrified at how far it went and felt like they were beating us, the viewers. I was scared they were going to harm Mr. Pu as well for being with the AI. Would it have gone that far if Qiang wasn't there?

@ThePanamaCollection1 Yes, I knew this was just a short film, and not a documentary. To me, this is the beauty of filmmaking. The emotions and connections we build towards the characters in a film. When William and Mr. Pu were finally creating a bond, and Mr. Pu was able to bring his wall down. We started to feel the mood of the movie, become calmer and happier. We didn't feel hatred towards William and began to like his personality and quirky humour. That's why, when William was beaten up so violently. We weren't cheering even though we learned in the beginning that the AI's were taking away people's jobs. The beating towards William was so brutal and shocking. Remember the movie ET? When he went home in the end, so many cried. Why? He wasn't real? It's getting involved in the character and the storyline? At least for me that's how it is. It could be because I love acting and getting into the character and situation.

There is no 'William', it was an AI node - and networked. Once it learns all it can from a human, it has uploaded all it can to the Net. No more need for the humans. The irony is in the Chef : his purpose, feed humans, sustain life. A machine has no purpose, only function.

That's one of the very interesting theme developed in this short. The robot is a "thing" and people are pissed because we started giving more importance to things than to humans. It might behave like a human thanks to AI, but it is still a thing. Would you feel the same if I smash Alexa (I mean the Amazon Echo)?

This short film is a keeper. In the past, When organizes humans revolted against the owners machinery it was called "Sabotage." Named after the wooden shoes (Sabot) used to destroy the industrial mechanisms that have automated the jobs done previously by humans. Looks like, as always, History is prologue.

so many small details that make me love this short film. what especially caught my attention, however, was how childlike yet capable William was. although the world is full of uncertainty, fear, and death for humans due to a variety of things including the existence of androids, William is just there to learn. William himself is aware of the situation but never of the true consequences, especially as we see him offer Pu the ice pack at 13:08 - an action that would be ridiculous if he understood that ice packs do little for a human bleeding out. his question about leaving at 13:40 further demonstrates his lack of empathy regarding the potential loss of life. despite how frustrating William's actions may seem, Pu still patiently explains everything. in this way, Pu's empathy makes him a wonderful teacher - but what is a teacher without students? Qiang left Pu in more ways than one to fight for what he believed in, but William was still there to listen and learn. this short film is an excellent example of the art of show-not-tell and the role of teaching / learning. we are thrown into the kitchen much like William, but the director shows us so many details about this world that background info is unnecessary. regardless of the topic of the film, however, i think what i love the most about the directing and the writing is how fair it is for every character, human or android. at 16:35, when Qiang yells at Pu, "who's side are you on?", it is the perfect climax, because it forces the viewer to ask how sides came to be in the first place. at 15:16, William demonstrates what he's learned from Pu in a different but still applicable situation, and we see Pu's warm joy in the following scene highlight that William is learning more from Pu than just cooking - and maybe, just maybe, he can learn empathy from Pu too. but we'll never know because William is taken away by the mob, presumably to be destroyed. maybe he can be repaired, maybe he's gone forever. we'll never know. i found this final scene to be particularly horrifying because of how common we see this conflict happen between humans. after all, how can we expect androids to have empathy when we barely have empathy for each other in the human race? to me, this isn't sci-fi. this is reality with more technology. also, wow you read this whole comment. thank you for coming to my TED talk.

All I can say is that the plot which could contain volumes of subsequent events leading to a potential full feature, is amazingly encapsulated in a 20 minute video short. This video alone is compact filled with details and informations and yet was able to showcase the unexpected bonding between the Chef and the AI in such a short duration. All the footage were well shot and chosen and the editing is simply amazing. Even more amazing is the "wordless" segment leading to the closing credits. "if a picture can paint a thousand words", and that's just what it did. Kudos to the whole team and crew and the brains behind this film and script. You guys are tops!

This was so well done on all counts. Also, this story exemplified two very constant and prevalent characteristics of the human condition; fear of change and reacting emotionally rather than logically. It is the reason why good things, logic and truth is destroyed since society began and will never change in us humans no matter our improvements or how we advance in technology
