Jim Bartschi explains the benefits of fiberglass with the new Scott F Series.
Scott Fly Rod Company have been working with fibreglass fly rods for 40 years. So it stands to reason that they know a little about glass and the most suitable application for fly fishing.
This year Scott has updated the technology with their new FiberFuse enhanced resin system creating a stronger and higher performing blank that further stabilises the tracking and feel.
Ranging from a 6'2" 2-weight to a 7'2" 4-weight, Jim Bartschi highlights that small stream fishing is the best application for fiberglass fly rods.

Does anyone know which rod from the f-series Jim shows in this video?

Do not get the Scott replacing the F2 with an F series with E-Glass Blank, which was F2 and is perfect for small streams. I do not really understand why Scott uses such a soft E-Glass blank now. But the prices of Scott rods are getting more violent and not justified. My opinion

Really hope they dropped the self aligning reel seats. I’ve encountered 2 Scott g series that were misaligned when assembling the reel seats. Both damaged the finish on my force SL2s reel foot. Called Scott 3 times about the 2nd instance and they never responded...

Send them an email and I am sure they will respond. Their customer service in my experience is second to none.

hicnar I called and got ahold of a lady that told me Jim was busy at the moment and would give me a call back (I also left a voicemail message). I haven’t heard back. I ended up returning the rod to the shop, they were generous enough to take it back despite taking off the film on the cork. I more or less wanted to know what the reasoning for the inconsistency in reel seat alignment of two g series I’ve purchased (one at launch & the one I purchased months after) . No way I was going through warranty (on rod #2), having only purchased it a week prior. Thanks for your help.

hicnar I also should note. I own a few of their radians (they use the same reel seat) and there’s absolutely no misalignment or issues.

After decades of an industry solely focusing on fast action graphite technologies. I am pleased to see a company reel-ising; there was an overlooked and long overdue, dedicated small stream fly rod, missing from the market place. I have a passion for head-water fly fishing. Where a relaxed short accurate cast, in tight quarters is essential. My #2 weight of thirty plus years, is my benchmark fly rod, for small stream close quarters fishing. I purchase an #00 weight with expectation and excitement, some ten years ago; an anticipated highly advanced technology graphite rod. I have been disappointed with its performance, in the real-world application. This had dampened my incentive to purchase, any new rods for small stream pocket fly fishing. Now, has Scott Fly Rod Company rekindled my interest and ongoing search? With the hope that someone has though-through, critically and accurately. About what is most desirable, in an accurate, fun and advanced technology fly fishing experience. The Scott company seems to have identified a shortfall in the fly rod market place. A niche that unfortunately has been neglected. With preference bestowed to the perceived, improved, innovative and advanced technologies and materials, of the last quarter century. Please don’t get me wrong; I have and enjoy, my fast action high performance #5 weight graphite fly rod. For its intended application on lacks and rivers the modem technology graphite, is my go-to rod of choice. Put the same rod technology into a short cast, intimate fly fishing environment. This thinking only leads to disappointing and a lackluster day on the water. Is the Scott F Series fiberglass fly rod responsive? With an enjoyable and accurate short cast feedback to the angler? Will it have the required presentation with some decorum; of fly line, leader and fly on the water? Head-water fly fishing, is an immersive, relaxing, fun and challenging endeavour. Choosing the right equipment is paramount, when embarking on any fun filled days fishing. The small streams can have an almost meditative environmental experience, for the adventures fly fisher. A relaxed short cast is most often required and desirable. Bamboo fly rods offer this to the angler, though are priced beyond most people. Scott Fly Rod Company, may have developed an affordable alternative, in this neglected area of fly rod construction. I would like to spent a fishing season with the Scott F series fiberglass fly rod. Affording the rod and I, ample time to get to know it’s attributes, in real world close quarter, small streams applications. I wonder will I be persuaded to retire my old #2 weight friend and compaction of thirty years; or will my hand show preference to something new when packing to head out to the stream? Will there be frustration and disappointment, or a now love-a-fare? Either way, the eternal search for the aliment, small stream fly rod experience. Will always be an immersive journey, an ongoing pursuit for happiness; amongst an environment that reveals its rewards to the patient, adventures angler. Thank you, Scott Fly Rod Company, for your team thinking outside the conventions and materials, of common believes. Warm Regards, Steven
