For my own sanity I'm doing another broad comment 🤦🏼♀️ I never said Boston was in the south. What I did was say that people assume that when our accent "Isn't Scottish" if it doesn't sound like it does in certain areas (aka quite broad). It would be like going to America and saying "your accent doesn't sound like one from a particular area (aka southern, Boston, New York...areas where the American accents are quite distinctive) so you aren't as American as someone who is from one of those areas." (I used Boston for the comparison example at the end) 🙃 Spare my soul!
It's cool. I'm from the southeastern USA, and I run across accents here where I'm like WTF did you just say? Even in the south we all don't sound the same. :)
I'm from California people think I sound like a surfer, but I never surfed in my life. I had an Ex ones from Huston Texas and she use to tell me that everyone in Huston doesn't dress like Cowboys and Cowgirls but told me I sound like a Surfer because I'm Los Angeles California. Way to go telling me not use a Stereotype for Huston but giving me one because I'm from Los Angeles California.
I had served in the US Army and to many outsiders, Sow'Boston (south Boston), Lousiana Par'sh (rural Louisiana), Philly(delphia), and Nu Yawk general (NYC stereotype) all sound the same, but since I knew people who had been from those areas, I learned to hear the differences and correctly identify at least the correct state/general area. Me: "'Ey, youa Southie? (Sow'Boston)" Them: "Ey ya! Howya know?" Cute meme-pic of toddler being swarmed by Pitbull puppies; since I knew people from Pittsburgh, I tend to caption the image: "We is da Pitts-Borg. Youns'll be now assimoolated. Resistance is, like, FUTILE, a'ight?" :D
Being from Texas, I deal with this a lot. Firstly, people are surprised that I don't have a Southern accent. I just have a plain American accent that some people have mistaken as a Canadian accent. Weird. Second, I do NOT: wear boots; ride a horse everywhere; carry a gun on my hip; wear a cowboy hat; work in the oilfield or on a ranch; and finally... I DID NOT FIGHT IN THE ALAMO! I understand the struggle...
i have lived all over the US and in 4 different countries. mainly south America, its funny how people think that you should sound as opposed to you actually do
I’m Scottish too. I have Golden-Strawberry-Blonde hair (think Rapunzel, with ginger highlights), yet whenever people find a red strand of hair on my head, they say something along the lines of ‘So you ARE Scottish!’ Where the f*ck did you think I was from?! Switzerland? Germany? Narnia?!
😂😂😂😂 Same!! In summer my hair colour really comes out and that's when people start saying stuff like that 😂 It's like you have to have at least one red strand of hair on your head to qualify as Scottish haha! Like...pardon?? 😂
I hate when people say I can’t be Scottish because I “don’t have a Scottish accent” it’s so annoying!!! I’m from Edinburgh so I don’t have a strong accent !!!
my great grandfather was strawberry blonde (red) and it passed a wee bit to me so im Brunette with a red shine especially in the light, they are GLOWING ,I quite like it, wish it be more, but the fun fact is red is: it's the rarest hair color around, even natural Strawblonde is more common than red.
Yep I'm Scottish and I speak with a "Posh" accent (apparently?) and the only one in my family that does so. Really grinds my gears when people label me (or anyone) simply because of things like this. And the whole "Hating England" thing! Oh it just annoys me so much! I have a long lost brother and sister from England (I have 3 more long lost ones that are scottish) and couldn't be happier about it. Yes we tease each other but I view the Scottish / English thing simply as sibling rivalry
4:36 as a Scot, this one annoys me the most lol. As an aberdonian, i very rarely eat haggis, like it’s actually annoying when people assume we eat haggis all the time
That's awesome! 😁 Even in my videos that aren't on Scottish related topics I speak in my natural accent etc. So maybe useful to check some of them out so your not hearing the same words and phrases over and over 👌🏼 Check out my most recent here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-agOLsiwKYFM.html
Awesome video. I have a pet clockwise Haggis. She's such a fun pet. Lol. I get how you feel when they say you must not be as Scottish due to your accent. I get told the something very similar. As one who comes from the south but gas moved around and traveled a lot. My southern accent has virtually disappeared.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 😁 Oh how lovely!! See I find clockwise haggis's are more tame and make better pets. Good choice haha! Oh my god I'm kind of the same! I've traveled quite a bit and worked in different places and my accent has just grown and changed with me and where I happen to be. So glad someone else gets this! 🙌🏼
I’m from Ireland and we also have an “all Irish people are heavy drinkers” stereotype. Ok yes I have a few friends who broke their confirmation pledge the day they made it, however I also know a lot Irish people who don’t drink at all, including myself. Also I’m here to inform you that the “all Irish people swear like sailors” stereotype is 100% true il never fucking apologise for it!!!😁☘️
o man, I love this, some ppl can be soooooo..... u did a good job, I would love a part two. I really needed to laugh, it's been a rough week so far, big thank u for my first hardy laugh of this week, thank u :-)
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!! 😁 And I love that you'd like to see a part two. Happy I could help cheer you up, hope it's brightened the rest of the week for you!
i wanna study in scotland so i was just hoping to find some scottisch ytbers to improve my scottish skills (u guys do have quite an interesting accent) but honestly i'm just staying for you lmao you're super funny
Yes!! I get that one all the time too 😂😂 My body doesn't do well with caffeine so I'm not an avid drinker of either. The odd cup of tea yeah, but not like crazy. Haha! British problems!
Malissa Lindenberger, I think people are stuck in the past and haven't updated. At one time Tea was bigger in the UK than its now. Tea also help caused the American Revolution. We had the Boston Tea part. After the 7 years war British America had the Stamp Act placed on them by the British government to help pay for the war and the Colonist rebelled and the act was removed, but King George III wanted a tax still so came the tea act. The tea had a high tax and it came from the British East India Company. During the 7 years war the British East India Company kicked the Dutch out of India and took over the tea marked and had boxes of tea sitting in London warehouses that weren't selling so the government helped British East India Company because of the war pushed it on the Colonist for a high price and that lead to the Boston tea party and was one of the Causes of the American Revolution. Tea was big in the UK because of Money and because of money it became popular to drink. British East India Company is now gone and times have changed so tea in not as big in the UK as its not so big in the USA any more.
I came to the channel after watching The Dragon Prince series on Netflix. I apologize because it was the Moonshadow elves’ Scottish accent that brought me here.
So many people seem to want it so I'll add it to my list and see what I can come up with over the next wee while. I have loads of other ideas I wanted to get up before that though so the Scottish stuff is spread out a bit more 👌🏻
My guys are Mclucus and browns from the highland mountains basically we're it's verrrry cold and they always never fail to send us letters from Scotland there so lovely and let me just say none of us have red hair 🤣 as for the whiskey nope , my dad loves it I can't handle it I have a weak stohmach so I'm a beer hopper🤣
Idk why but when you started talking about accents I remembered one of my group calls and one of the mums who had a really broad accent who said *robloxian weed*
This was awesome! Lol Thank you for sharing these stereotypes. I honestly did think the Scottish people didn’t really like England but not because of brave heart. For political reasons. Thank you again. Love your accent by the way 🌹
My mom has gingervitis. I’m bald is a white snooker ball except my head with light blue eyes. I drink scotch only a bit on special occasions. When I get mad, I get a heavy Scottish accent.
I’m Scottish, I was in America once and was meeting up with a cousin and their friend, when I brought up I was Scottish they said,” NO YOU ARE NOT, YOU DON’T WARE A KILT!
My extended family has the last name Dodd, and Guthrie, In September here in the US, they do the Scottish Games, wearing the kilts, they love their heritage :-)
Being Canadian, I have always been stereotyped as "nice", "pleasant", and if they made me mad they would say, your not very Canadian. Or do you play hockey. All kinds of other crap.
i get the same question asked about my military service in the US..... Do you know smith from Ft. Hood?....... No! there's like 1 million active members of the military we don't know everyone in it...... lol
Some times, the ppl who stereotype the most are ppl from that same culture... I'm half Italian and therefor I was "lucky" being judged on how Italian I was by every other Italian in my entourage. And the fooooood... "can I have your lasagna recipe?", "you must make great tomato sauce"...and ppl can't wrap their head around the fact that I highly dislike tomato sauce... I eat my pasta with butter and my French-Canadian friends loooove sauce, does it make them Italian? No.. it's called TASTE and being different. I think Gerard Buttler once was saying how some ppl pick on him saying his accent isn't Scottish enough anymore or something. It's just sad, live and let live.✌🏻
RIGHT!! It's so frustrating like...you're contributing to the problem 😂🤦🏼♀️ How weird is it that people actually assume what your diet or food preferences are like based on where you're from! Yeah, things like that happen quite a lot! It is quite sad, like...come on.
The video would be crazy if she painted Her face half blue and half white , Pulled out a sword and said " they can take out land but not our freedom " Or " there can only be one " .
You have a very pretty cool voice. I'm watching your videos 'coz its very helpful for us voice over artist especial when project requires us to speak in your accent. Thanks your a big help!
Most of us dont sound as strong the more natural you are the better actor you are maybe come visit Scotland and meet and greet us variety is best too 🤗
Definitely do a Part 2. People think I'm Irish because my last name is Neill. Growing up people thought it was O'Neill but in fact many many many years ago it was McNeill. The McNeill was dropped when my ancestors from SCOTLAND (not Ireland) immigrated to Canada, America, Australia and New Zealand. I'm not at all trying to diss Ireland, I just hate it when people think I'm Irish instead of Scottish (even though I am also a wee bit Irish). ~ Felicity Rose ru-vid.com
I'm so glad you liked it and would want to see a part 2 😁👌🏼 That's so interesting how the name changed. I totally get what you mean though with making assumptions x
Im of both lineages: Clan May (Irish) and Clan Bain (Scottish)- that's just my mother's side. My father's line (Brough) is scattered to all corners, apparently.
I’m Scottish too! Those things are bloody annoying! There is another one u missed out tho.....the kilts.... it’s so ANNOYING! People just expect everyone to walk around in the streets wearing them when we only really wear them at weddings. Tartan is another thing too but some people do wear Tartan patterns but not everybody.
Me And My Mum On Travel Sottish Mum Stands And The Bar And The Bartender Says “Whisky?” My Mum Who Looks Likes She’s Gonna kill um’ Me : Oh He Went There 🤦♀️
I love trying local ales from different places I go 😁😁 Tried one last week which was coffee and blackberry, sounds gross but was actually very pleasant 👌🏼
im russian and i can feel how strange nearly annoying stereotypes are. i've told people im russian on the internet and they believe my routine is drinking vodka wearing an adidas tracksuit squatting and saying suka blyat
I hope there's more interesting stuff than that otherqise I've not been doing my job right haha! 😂 Most of my content is about film and comedy, I really only do the Scottish stuff here and there to take the piss 😂😂
Hilarious. Stereotypes are funny most of the time, I mean I'm from Mexico and some people may think I'm a guy wearing a big hat who drinks tequila the entire day hahaha that doesn't offend me, actually I could take it as a joke depending on the situation. I had never listened about stereotypes of scottish people so far.
Lol I was a sleep and woke up to this and im from Scotland to I play alot of Fortnite and when I do random squads they always like are you Irish and it's so annoying
Fun video. I apparently watched with a bit of delay (2 years huh). Always found it funny many stereotypes Castilian Spanish have about Catalans. I remember about 10 years ago I was working in Northern Spain and many of my costumers said things like: "Oh you don't seem Catalan, you're really nice", for some reason many Spaniards think Catalans are racist assholes that hate them, even if a broad majority of Catalans have close family relatives from Southern Spain -in the 60s there was a lot of immigration-. Heck all my grand-grand parents are Catalan and most of my close friends are from central or northern Spain. It's just ridiculous.
I don't get why people get offended so easily over such things. It's not that hard to politely explain how things are. Foreigners tend to jump to conclusions easily, and they're lead by stuff they know or think they know. Sometimes they ask something, which might seem so silly to you, but to them it isn't. No need to get offended. Especially when it comes to the accent. To us it doesn't sound all the same, but it's kinda hard to find the difference when you aren't being surounded with people on daily bases.
Haha! I'm not offended in the slightest 😂😂 this is just satire and sarcasm. There's no need to take such a serious approach to a video that is 100% made for comedic purposes. Folks just gotta relax and be able to laugh.
Where I'm at in the U.S.A [Texas] if you've got an accent, you definitely are attractive. I know it's subjective to some but, it's still true. It doesn't matter if it's Canadadian, all of Europe (and there's sooooo many) South Amercian, Slavic, etc. Come to America and keep your heritage; it's nice to have the melting pot of culture. The accent is the icing on the cake, so-to-speak.
HAH exactly (3:24) - guess we have to go to the Ancestry DNA! =-O I'm right convinced: only Kevin Bridges sounds like Kevin Bridges 5:12 Oh. no. you. did. not.... ;-) Of course you did, it's just what you do! XD XD [corrected from previous version] Seriously, HOW you ever kept any kind of straight face delivering all that s just beyond me - brilliantly done! One thing I've learned only recently is that basically any surname in the British & Emerald Isles (and some from far beyond) can and do show up in Scotland - Franchiti, Summerville, Brady, Patience: all Scottish, all the time. Just how it is!
I will publish my damn results publicly if it'll give me some peace 😂😂 Yes!! I agree!! Ah, I don't know what part of the video you're meaning because it's only 9 minutes long 🙈 I'm glad you liked it regardless! Well would you look at that! Every day's a school day!
@@KirstieBryce Dunno how I put that silly number in there :-| Meant the part roughly at 5:15 - where the 'legend' continues! ;-) Reminds me of the traditional 'snipe hunt' that our Boy Scout newbies oft are sent on Again, you sold that stuff without one smidge of irony - pheckinominal!
you look prettier with your hair pulled back off your face, you are very pretty. I am Canadian and lived in Asia for 10 years, I was stereotyped constantly
@@KirstieBryce They are, when I was in Asia the one I hated most is people calling me an American. I understand about regional dialects her even just in Nova Scotia you go from French in the south to "Cape Breton" Scottish, and there is also Cape Breton Fren and dialects from all over this small province of New Scotland. I have been across and into the north of Canada a few times, it is crazy the dialects you come across. I have an older sister lives in Ontario, central Canada, and you know she lives there just from the way she talks. Anyways, I like your videos. keep making them eh.
