SCREAM WAS SO MUCH FUN!! 🔪🩸 Blake had his face covered for half of the movie... He's not ready for what else we have planned! 😱 Check back every week of October for more horror reactions! 🎃
For reference... No, it was definitely not common for highschoolers to have a cell phone at that point. In 1997, cell phones were for people who owned their own businesses and people who needed to contact their children at home when working long hours. Lol it wasn't even common for most parents to have one at that point in time
@@eyden1562 😂you are the only person to have noticed that even though it's been my profile pic on everything for about 10 years! Finally found a kindred spirit!
@@d.w.strangeman4963 That's awesome hahhaha. To be honest, I lost a very close friend at the young age of 23. But I have a picture of him with a hat & sunglasses on, and a cig hanging from his mouth. We always joked that he looked just like Johnny Depp as Hunter. 😂 It's a really fond memory, so Hunter Thompson holds a special nostalgia for me. 😊
@@eyden1562 sorry for your loss. Most people think it's just a caricature of me. I hope it leaves you with fond memories of him, rather than some random bloke leaving comments on RU-vid 🥰
Knowing the background of how they marketed the movie is huge. They asked Drew Barrymore to be the star of the franchise and she pushed to be the opening kill instead of playing Sidney because she said it would be more impactful. They gave her the opening kill character but marketed the movie as though she was the star, so everyone walked into the theatre thinking they were watching a Drew horror movie and were shocked. It completely revamped and revitalized the horror genre. The impact can't be understated. You guys should really watch the rest of the films as a reaction as well.
Why do people always complain about "the ending is too long"? Do people just want to see the same formula over and over? That ending is so creative, we got to see real behavior from psycho killers.
I'm so happy more people are reacting to this movie/franchise because of October. Definitely my favorite slasher. If Ghostface called me and asked me what is my favorite scary movie, well I'd clearly panic for a second there, but then I'd say Scream, no hesitation lol
In 96 an 18 years old having a cell phone was *really* not common. A Star Tac at that time was $1000, with inflation it's the equivalent to $2000 today. How many 18yo have a 2k item on them ?
Eventually she was basically nailed in, and since she didn't believe she had a good scream, she instead chose her last moment to be crying out for her Mom... Which hurts more, knowing she's a few feet from her brother crying...MOM!
You guys are so young! Easter eggs you missed: 1 The reporter that ambushed Sydney asking her about almost being butchered, was a cameo by Linda Blair, the little girl from the Exorcist. 2 The principle was Henry Winkler better known in pop culture as The Fonz. 3 The Janitor dressed as Freddie Kruger was Wes Craven. I really enjoyed your reaction. I'm looking forward to more. While you guys are in the "shallow end, try out Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960). I'm sure Blake could handle it.😄
“Fred” the janitor was played by director Wes Craven, who wrote and directed the original Nightmare on Elm Street. Also, when Randy is on the couch watching Halloween and imploring “Jamie” to look behind her… ironically he is played by Jamie Kennedy so this adds another level of meta
Adding to the point of Wes Craven creating A Nightmare on Elm Street there was a slight dig at that franchise at the beginning of the movie. When Casie is talking to the killer and guesses his favorite movie was Nightmare the killer says that he liked that one because it was scary and her response was "Well the first one was but the rest all suck." Wes Craven had only directed the first movie until he returned to the franchise about a decade later with New Nightmare.
I love how many horror movie references there are in Scream! There’s also some other Halloween references that I didn’t catch until later. One that’s a little obvious is when Tatum and Sidney are talking about her mom’s killer and Tatum says she sounds like a Wes Carpenter flick. And at the beginning of the movie, Casey’s dad tells her mom to go to the MacKenzies which is what Laurie Strode told the kids to do in Halloween.
Is funny because this movie was supposed to be a parody/satire of slasher movies but was so popular and had such an impact that got its own "parody" movie that is scary movie lol.
You guys should definitely watch all of the sequels. Scream is THE ONLY horror franchise that never goes off the rails. Yes, there might one or two movies weaker than the others, but they're all far from bad. All of them are extremely entertainable, cozy, scary, funny, all in the right amounts. Go on with the whole franchise and I promise you won't regret it.
strangely enough even the weaker movies in the franchise are still really good. Even with decade difference and the director change. One of a kind, I think there is no other movie franchise that is 25 years old which is that strong in the long term.
im gonna be honest, the latest 2 definitely aren’t my favorite, it just is a different feel from OG films, but i do agree they aren’t bad though, like you said a better series that stayed watchable
@@jessica-uj4bwthe newest movies are more action movies then anything else, I don’t hate them but I would have preferred the series to have ended with Wes Cravens passing
Fun fact, the line from Matthew Lillard at end when Billy hits him with the phone is improvised. When they filmed the scene, the fake blood on his hand made the phone slip out and hit him and he said that and they left it in because they thought it was funny.
23:23 This was 1996, cell phones were not at all common yet, least of all among high schoolers. So him having a cell phone on him that dropped to the floor would legitimately raise suspicion.
Caller ID became a thing because of THIS film =) Scream is my favorite horror movie series and is the most consistent out of all series. The blend of comedy/horror and the good characters are awesome!
So, idk if ya guy pick this series back up down the road. But it’s not so much THE slasher movie. It’s more like the movie that reinvented horror, this movie was and still is super meta to horror movies, and at the time in the 90’s, everything was Jason or Freddy or a rip off of that style of slasher, and Wes Craven, the man who created A nightmare on Elm Street, being the horror genius that he was, got together with a writer for teenage MRV drama show and made Scream, a satire of not only of horror movies, but the entire horror industry as a whole. It truly is one of the best horror franchises of all time, and every ounce of scream 1 and 4 are divine brilliance drawn straight from the beautifully twisted mind of Wes Craven. The rest are great too, 5 especially imo, but those 2 movies changed horror movies forever
I hope you guys finish the franchise. I really enjoyed all of the films especially Scream VI. It’s cool to see older films being brought back in modern times. I am sure that all of you will enjoy them including Blake 😂🙏🏾!!
It was a great horror satire at the time. Very aware, meta, and rule breaking. The 2nd one is also amazing and is tied with the first for me. The 3rd is controversial. It's different but I liked it. (There was a big school shooting that happened so they changed a lot of the story and toned down the gore)
YESSSSSS I HOPE YOU GUYS CONTINUE WITH THE FRANCHISE!!! Ghostface is one of my favorite killers! Scream 4, 5, and 6 are my favorites for sure but all of them are really great tbh!
36:45 The Howling is an excellent horror movie with werewolves (and yes, with the actress that played E.T.s mom, ha - she's also in Cujo, based off of a Stephen King book)
The great thing about Scream was it was so self aware, in that it even though it is a serious subject it constantly refers to old Horror films and makes reference to the plot of them etc. It also spawned superb sequels, each on of them is great too and well worth a watch. You gotta do the sequels, the writing is just so clever.
The best horror franchise period it changed the horror genre since it’s release and it’s the most consistent in quality when it comes to the sequels idc what anyone says. The original will always be the best, ghostface was at his prime , and the introduction of the best final girl Sidney Prescott with the meta nature of the movie feeling so refreshing having ppl know the rules of the horror genre to survive and subvert expectations especially having 2 killers instead of one to explain how ghostface can move around so fast. The best opening to a horror movie ever starting off with 2 really gory kills to set the tone.
70's and 80's are the best soundtracks :) Garage doors didn't always have the safety feature. Thank Blake for suffering for us! Enjoyed everyone's reactions and hypotheses!
One of the great unexpected things about scream when it first came out was that opening, Drew Barrymore was the biggest name in the cast at the time and originally signed on to play Sidney then she thought it would be cool if she was the opening kill, like one of yous said ( you thought she was the final girl ) so you open see a big star an think ok she’s Ganna get away the. 15 minutes in an your all outta wack cus everything you thought you knew was out the window ! This movie is amazing👍🏼 #WesKnewHisShit
It's also worth mentioning she was front left on the movie poster, so people watching it for the first time would assume she is important and one of the main leads.
@@feartheolivebread yep & that over exposed behind them/ on the cover of the vhs dvd blue ray is also Drew Barrymore, it took me till a few years ago for it to click that was her an not Neve Campbell or Courteney Cox 🤦🏻♂️
“My mom and dad are gonna be so mad 😂 my favorite line in the whole movie. My favorite comment from your reaction “Zoinks” 😂 In my opinion Nightmare On Elm Street is terrifying. 😱
i know its your first time watching but sidney prescott is far for stupid and is one of the most iconic final girls in slasher history, just wanted to say that. if you continue the franchise (which i hope you do) you'll appreciate her more. love y'alls reaction
please react to the whole entire franchise it’s so great I think you guys will enjoy it do a reaction to 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and whatever you guys do do not react to scary movie has nothing to do with the scream franchise it was a mockery and a parity to scream I hate it when people want to say scary movie is a part of the franchise or they watch scary movie before scream Or they watch scream and then watch scary movie like that’s not what happening now but as I was saying before it’s great franchise, you won’t be disappointed guys have fun
You guys are going to enjoy the series. I love how they don’t reboot it , there’s a story for everything when you encounter the trilogy Scream 3 everything comes to light ! Scream 3 is underrated but it’s good and it’s a comedy
My 2nd favourite. Absolutely love scream 3. Hate it gets so much hate, especially all this shit it went thro. It turned out great imo considering everything
Great reaction guys ❤ David Arquette and Courteney Cox were together around this time and then got (m. 1999-2013) when they divorced but stayed close friends for their daughter coco she’s 19 now also skeet Ulrich(billy) and neve Campbell (Sidney) played in another good movie I love that is great for Halloween it’s called the craft but If you want something not as heavy practical magic is really good
You should definitely watch Scream 2! Many feel it's almost, if not, better than Scream. Plus, you can't go wrong with Sarah Michelle Gellar being in it, who at the time, was starring in Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
Great reaction guys. Don’t worry Blake the scream franchise isn’t that scary and has a good story arch(at least 1-4). Watch Paranormal activity or Annabelle if you really want to get scared.
1.The fun part is watching everyone overthink who did it. Thank God for twist endings. 2. The principal is The Fonz/Henry Winkler. 3. Cellphones weren't that prevalent in1996. 4. Maskface keeps getting his ass kicked 🤣 5. Tatum/Rose McGowen= As long as I have a face 😋😍 6. Why Stuart would kill his GF Tatum is beyond me.🙄 (I can tell it was him because the stunt man is much taller than Billy).
This show isnt for the impatient. Just so you know, everything that happens and even the character traits and actions have reasons which is explained as the series progresses. The payoffs are good for this one.
First time viewer & I have to say you guys already have me chuckling in the first 3 minutes lol! Especially Blake being annoyed at everyone requesting horror films 😂. I think this is gonna be a great watch!
Wes Craven based this off The Gainesville Ripper. He saw this small town that knew there was a serial killer living among them and the longer he went uncaught, the more suspicious everyone seemed. That's way more terrifying than a literal monster. A human monster looks like everyone else.
Good reaction. You need to watch the sequel. A fun moment you probably missed is one of my favorites: when Ghostface is behind Randy ( the movie expert) and Randy is telling Jamie Lee Curtis ( in Halloween) to look behind her. If you are unaware, the actor playing Randy is Jamie Kennedy. So he's actually telling himself "look behind you."
ahh i'm not sure where you guys went to HS, but in my school the girls wore less and acted like super 304's. As for Billy. Guys that are Chads don't have to be smart or cordial. If they are good looking and toxic. He's in. yeah yeah. For years i hated that, but it's what seems to work
For y'all youngins (I'm only 33 lol), a "900 number" was/might still be like a phone sex hotline thing. So nowadays how corporations have 1-800 numbers (1-900-###-####) phone sex lines used to be known as "900 numbers".
Personally, I would love to, but we'll have to see over time. I can tell you that for this month, every horror movie we're reacting to is from a different series, or even a standalone. If enough viewers want us to continue a series, we most likely will. -Corey
@Raggedy Pack Also I think it is important to note…ALL OF THE PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL FOR THIS MOVIE HAD DREW BARRYMORE FRONT AND CENTER. Drew Barrymore was the blonde woman in the opening scene she was America’s sweetheart and has been famous since she was a child in E.T. Anyways because Drew Barrymore was so famous and was front and center on the poster and in the trailer people assumed she was the main character/final girl. So when she died in the first 12 minutes people lost their minds in a good way. Rightfully so.
This franchise helped me with my fear of blood funny enough!! When billy says it's cornstarch and red dye in Carrie really helped! I'm an actress myself and that helped me click into the mindset for horror films and blood and I love this franchise and a lot of other 80s and 90s horror now!!
Good reactions guys!🙂 Yes, the ending was drawn out but that was so you were able to hear the answers to the questions we all have with movies like this: the who, where, what, why and how. And just fyi all the endings are drawn out like that in all of the other 5 movies and honestly it works really well for this franchise lol And fun fact the first 3 movies of the franchise are related in more ways than one. You also get more back story from each of the movies. They really built a decent storyline for the first 3 movies. Movies 4-6 are good too while they do have some major changes there are also some connections to the first 3 that makes them all worth watching at least once.. they are even coming out with another one which will be #7 and that one will also have connections to the others. Even if you don't get through them for Oct you should still watch them all eventually 🙃
Trust me It is not common for kids in high school to have cell phones. And the extreme bullying and hazing was definitely real. I graduated in 1999. High school was a huge party 😅 But yeah nobody in my school had a cell phone in 96
Hey guys! I watch horror movies all year round and grew up on all the classic ones like this. One of the clues that Stu is the killer is that he and Tatum were basically inseparable the first half of the movie; he asks her to get him a beer at the party, she never comes back and he never wondered about her- even when he went to get himself a beer later. You were right abt the Wes (craven) John (carpenter)combo and yep Gail always becomes everyone's favorite (along w Dewey and Sydney of course). Courtney Cox who plays her purposely wanted to play a b*tch because everyone knew her as "Monica" from "Friends" where she played a nice girl- and Gail does evolve a bit in Part 2. Great reaction, you should watch the entire franchise- it doesn't disappoint.
Full volume !!!! No low volume Blake ! Cheater 😏 lol 😆 When the guy said zoinks when Stu died shit had me hollering I enjoyed the dude with the long hair commentary as well Beanie dude asking the interesting questions at the end, again much appreciated. The scream films get scarier and scarier :) will be surprised if you make it to scream 6 lol
Scream is my all-time favorite scary movie. I love the entire franchise! I subscribed, hoping you will react to the rest of the movies. I loved the reaction!
For reference RIZZ means this: “If you want to "rizz" someone, you want to flirt with or charm them. It is also believed "rizz" derives from the word "charisma," or "a special magnetic charm or appeal." Great reaction💖🤣 especially ‘its the 90’s, bullying is a tradition’ 😂
30:15 When I was on the edge of breaking up with my now ex he said ever since my guardian died and I moved away I became a b*tch. Nice to know other guys would’ve been against that and known not to say that to their gf.
@Raggedy Pack I found you via this video…So I think it’s time to do the entire Scream franchise!! I think Blake will be fine. Scream is a little more campy than scary. But this franchise is so popular for a reason…it is so fun trying to solve the mystery of who the killer is in each movie. Every single one is good.
