Decided to get some numbers as to how many yards of black dirt can we screen per hour to do a cost breakdown to help decide if its worth it to even use a dirt screener like this one. we took a 30 minute run time, and calculated how many yards of black dirt we were able to get in that amount of time and then do the math to see how long it would take to pay off the screener, and how many yards of dirt we would need to produce to pay off the dirt screener. We used some basic numbers for prices on equipment times etc.

I have a little screener like this i bought for my landscape business. Its been a really good investment. I charge people to haul the dirt away from jobs we're doing, bring it home and screen it. I charge 365$ for 12 yards of top soil delivered and installed, in utah. Most of my work is in a 5 miles radius so its a profitable little addition to everything else we do.

I used your video to help convince my boss to buy a screener last year. We have 5 lawn crews and a consistent supply of free dirt coming in to our yard. We went from a 6$ a yard expense to at least a 20$ a yard profit and ive made several hundred yards already this year. Your numbers are right in line with what im getting if not a little low considering how damp the soil you were using. Thanks for the video.

Well worth the time! keep the moisture low in it and when lawn care and landscaping slows down in fall you can screen dirt!

The way I measure a pyramid of soil or bulk product is length x width x 1/2 of height ,works out perfect every time

The dislikes are from the click bait title, this did not produce anywhere near $330/hour. He mentions it but after you factor in vehicle cost, drive time, man hours for load and screening there’s no profit here. Really the only money you’re saving is the cost of buying the material and getting the convenience of not having to rely on someone else for material.

Hey man new subscriber love you're videos. Big Takeuchi fan to. I've been an operator for about the years. Not brave enough to go on my own and start my own gig. Just some advice tho, heap your piles up as high as you can get them and either tarp them or bucket pack it and smooth the pile so water runs off it. Also make a kick ramp to your screen so your higher up. Cuts your screening time in half.

Mix the tallings into you compost and screen again next year. (No loss) Turn compost pile couple times a year during a rain storm to get moisture in to it . Charge in and out , topsoil business is a great money maker.

Grass and leaves makes great compost. Carbon and nitrogen. I think it’s great. A small compost turner would be great as well!

dirt and compust is 2 different things. Dirt has clay and rock in it. compost is the black stuff that comes from leaves/grass. Need both compnents for a proper soil for planting lawns and such.

Topsoil screener is totally worth it. If you use roughly 220 yds per season at 20/yd, that’s 4400. Plus whatever you charge to deliver it to others or your own sites, say 6 dollars/yd. that’s another 1300 dollars in revenue. I’d say 5700 dollars coming in over the course of a construction season isn’t too bad. Those are super conservative numbers at that. Don’t let anyone tell you that you made a bad investment. #ShifskyLandscapes

would it be worth installing a sunken feed conveyor and hopper? Then you'd have a steady feed into the screener & trucks could tip directly or you could use a dozer if the skid steers out on a job. you could also rig an outfeed conveyor for tailings and screened dirt.

Please explain more details why you need to do dirt screening? The dirt after screening is for foundation dirt? As I knew, if dirt quality is not good, it cannot be used as the foundation dirt. Is it the purpose you need to change the dirt quality to be higher quality dirt for foundation?

Basically just trying to get any larger debris out like rocks sticks etc. we use this dirt for planting beds seeding etc so the cleaner the better.

I think to convert square feet to cubic yards you divide by 27 NOT 37 as you said twice in your video. You said multiply by 37

A 6x8x4 pile is like 3x4x2 = 24 cubic feet or basically one cubic yard. And just by looking it looks like a cubic yard. I don't think you have 7 yards, I think you have about one there...

I just had 7 yards of dirt dumped on my driveway and it looks about the same. 1 yard is like 18 of the .75cf bags you get at a big box store...not very much

Yep I’ve seen that one! It’s a nice unit! I’d really be interested to see which ones more efficient! They both have a little bit different uses but it would still be a cool video.
