This is the unit we are doing next year. I’m really excited! My oldest is 6 1/2 and we are at Level 0 since it fits with my 4 year old as well who is always trying to catch up to her big sister. This has worked really well for us and fit their personalities well. Thank you for sharing this video and your experience with your daughter!

I love your relaxed confidence. You are so right, it'll be alright! The trust in the process of an experienced home-schooler! Love your videos :)

I love all of your videos, but I wish you would show the inside of some of the picture books. This would allow us to see if it is actually a book we might want to purchase.

I just picked up The Adventures of Mali & Keela. We're really excited to get started with that.

I understand about the books being written about school so often. It's assumed in our culture. I rewrote Brown Bear Brown Bear to be about a mom and her children (great big adoptive family!) I will have to check out the new book you discussed. Have you read the 7 SILLY EATERS? Seems like a homeschool family.

I haven't read The 7 Silly Eaters, but I'll look for it. Regina and I will be finishing up Hanna Homeschooler this week, so I'll be putting up a review. So far I really like it - it's a very realistic look at what it's like to be homeschooled, so it's very relatable.

They are great math books, right? I wish I'd found them when my 3 teens were younger.

Yes!! We using level F for my 5th grader who does well with math but does not love it. With this program it is the very first thing he wants to do in the morning!

Thank you for this video! This is our first year of homeschooling. My daughter is in 1st grade (turning 6 in a couple of weeks). How did you know your daughter wasn't ready for 1st grade stuff? My daughter is resisting homeschool a lot but I don't know if it's that she's not ready or I am doing something wrong! I am also feeling a ton of pressure to do more with my daughter because people in our life are very skeptical of our choice to homeschool. I am looking forward to hearing updates of how it goes with your daughter this year.

Erin, I have a lot of thoughts on this topic, but to keep from writing a novel I'll try and be brief. Regina is a very active kid, and sitting still for more than 5 minutes was just painful to her. She seemed to be struggling with reading and would only write when it was her idea (which is totally fine with me at that age). So I decided to just let her be. There is plenty of time for schooling. The early years should be full of playing, art, nature walks, etc. Not reading lessons and worksheets. Children who are given time to play and explore will be ready to tackle formal schooling when they are older. Don't let other people dictate how you educate your child - it is far too easy for us homeschooling mothers to fall into that trap. Children are all different, they learn on their own time table, and the only one in charge is you. :)

Honestly, it's totally ok if she isn't reading yet. My oldest was an early reader, but the twins weren't. Riley picked it up fairly quickly when he was 6 (almost 7) and Robbie wasn't fluently reading til he was 9. They are both able to read well now. Regina has motivation to read right now because she wants to play the same video games that her siblings play, but most of them require reading. So she has made a goal to be able to read real books by the end of the school year so that she can play their games. Since it is her idea, she's likely to actually stick to it.

have you thought about joining the virtual homeschool coop? you would be an awesome contributed, we'd love to have you!

I had joined when it first started, but I just found that I wasn't getting to the challenges, or some of them I just didn't have a lot to say. I find I have so little time to put into filming and editing, I want to make sure I get the content I want to produce out there and not have to worry about making specific videos....if that makes any sense. It's also why I stopped doing Top 5 Wednesday. The stress of trying to keep up with it all was making me crazy!

I think in a later video you switched to Math Mammoth. Did you end up having some issues with Mathematical Reasoning? I can't decide between the two.
@ARRRGHSchooling

Nothing was wrong with Mathematical Reasoning - I just happened to already own Math Mammoth so we switched to that. Perks of homeschooling for forever, lol.
