Your perspective is a new one to me. The idea of religious zealots owning stock piles of guns--whether for the end days or for leader protection--is frightening to me. I knew that the LDS considers themselves as a persecuted group, but then the non-Mormons in Illinois and Missouri felt threatened by Joseph Smith's group as well. And I assume the people in the Mountain Meadows Massacre felt threatened also before they died. All in all, I would prefer if there were no guns in the hands of people who think the world is going to end--and their side is going straight to paradise. And my idea is not limited to Mormons or Christians. There are some terrible things happening in India by Hindus or in Sri Lanka by Buddhists.
have a hard time understanding the "End of the World - Second Coming of Christ" and needing to stock pile food/guns/etc. To me the second coming means Christ comes and all the "worthy" go with him to heaven ...therefore if you are "worthy" why would you need to stockpile? You will be in heaven with Jesus.
For those that believe in the Rapture there is going to be a time when people have a second chance to believe and at the same time the anti-Christ will be ruling and trying to prevent new converts ....
Aaaand it seems like Kody Brown is selling weapons which seems more tragic knowing Garrison died by a self inflicted gunshot wound 😢if Kody is selling guns how can he continue to sell firearms knowing his son took his life with one, as a parent had one of my children killed themselves with a gun you would never seee me knowingly within miles of a gun what’s more be selling them the reality is you have no idea what someone is going to do with a gun that you sold to said person and I grew up shooting targets with my dad who was a Sargent in the Marines and had been a competitive shooter as a kid and teen we used to go out on a Saturday at his friends house who had a shooting range on his property and we wouldn’t get home until the sun was going down and we had quite a few guns , rifles and different shotguns in our home and at that time gun safes weren’t even a ting so they were loaded and kept in a closet but my dad was adamant that I respected the guns and that I knew how to use them I was also an only child (girl) so I was the one out fishing and shooting with my dad my mother hated fishing and wouldn’t go with him my dad was very happy I was a Tomboy 😅❤ my husband and I have 5 children and when our first child was born we made the decision to not have any guns in our home as long as we had children at home that if we felt the need after they were grown and gone there would be plenty of time for that in the future we were not as worried about our children and weapons we would have taught them to respect them like we had been taught it was their friends that might be around and hadn’t been taught the respect and responsibility, too much liability even with gun locks, safes and cabinets we were not going to take the risk 😢
I remember the episode of Escaping Polygamy with Jesse that’s when I realized that some of the polygamist groups are more dangerous than others and that some go way beyond underage rides, welfare fraud and such.
Newsflash for any and all who do this stuff for the purposes of their 'religion' - and let's just use Salt Lake City as an example - you do realize that the USA military can totally obliterate that entire city in no time?! The whole militia thing is a huge joke and is completely dangerous to the groups who do this, and not just the juvenile men who like to play army. Every man, woman and child involved is in danger because of those who somehow think they're "doing" something. Very dangerous game to be playing because you cannot stand up to the military of an entire country. Please don't be foolish.
Personally, I think guns should be forbidden. The way that the US (..and prolly more countries!) handles guns is more than unsafe and unwise. We would be much better without. Just not sensible.
Matt has a past history of a run in with this sub group. On escaping polygamy they got the man he was interviewing out with his family. I realize some of it was dramaticised for tv but I get why he is investigating it.
I have been wondering whatever happened to Jesse since that episode of Escaping Polygamy so it was nice to kind of have this follow up. It's interesting that you guys read Matt and the crew as trying to pressure Sarah into saying something she didn't want to. As an outsider, I took it as the opposite. I thought she was lying and trying to protect people instead of telling the truth. It seemed weird to me that she was so hung up on it being called a militia and it seemed like she wanted to distance herself from it. It's also worth noting that Kody Brown sells gun accessories. I'm not sure if he sells guns too, but there have been rumours that he may not be doing everything legally where that's concerned. I was glad the episode brought up Obama being elected because there was a marked rise in the formation of militias and hate groups after his election, in many areas not just among Mormons.
Actually no, I didn't agree with what they were trying to paint. My experience wasn't what they were trying to project onto me, I only knew certain things, I wasn't in the trainings so I only knew so much. No lies, no protecting, I can only tell what I know, and I did just that.
the easy going way people in the USA speak about militia and owning guns, and the whole "we will be attacked" paranoia is simply scary for other peoples and in my opinion, which I know is not all accepted by most americans, simply not the way to have peace and live together
You have to understand that most of the people calling themselves "militia" in this country are nothing of the kind and have no connection to our country's legitimate tradition of citizen soldiers. The real militia, which has been the National Guard since 1906, was always operated under state or national chains of command. The DIY "militia" is just guys running around in the woods with guns and no accountability to anyone. Some of it is just silly LARPing, but many have extremist political or religious agendas and are little more than current or aspiring domestic terrorists.
As a British person the idea of a militia (in 2024) is absurd. I get that yadda yadda cultural differences America 💪🏼, yadda… but it just find it wild regardless of the reason for guns, it wild!
Sam I’m so glad you had this perspective because I did too! 9:15 I had a conversation with someone else about this episode and told her I thought they were making the militia into something that it really wasn’t but she felt it was an extremest group to be feared. I think it was not represented accurately by production. And no, I’m NOT a member of AUB or any Mormon church. It’s just my take on this episode.
Question for y’all: will you still be going live here on RU-vid sometimes or is the only way to see you live to join Patreon? I love the lives and just wondered!
I agree, they came over like it was okay just to speak your truth but than pushing for an answer for the sake of great TV. That's sad. Whether you agree with what she said or not.
The show didn't twist that woman's narrative, nor did it screw the truth. It's actively trying to stop the GQP's Project 2025 and SACR from turning the country into a militarized theocracy. It's trying to educate people into stopping another insurrection/civil war.
