My kids' great grandparents (through their dad) are from Poland. We found out the same thing as you did regarding Slovakia, that their ancestors left Poland too long ago to qualify for citizenship by ancestry. So we've settled on visiting the tiny town in Poland where their great grandfather came from. We haven't made it there yet, but anticipate making the trip in the future and will also visit other sites in Poland while we're there.

I'm thinking through my year, too. 😂 Another idea: Ditch the spring repositioning cruise, and think about China / Taiwan / Japan in the spring to see various blooms. Nepal also has fantastic spring rhodedendron blooms.

I was thinking something similar. I got confused about when the graduation is - but if it's May why not go around the world the other direction?

Our process is very similar. I love my spreadsheets, but for brainstorming we love writing on paper. We just don't plan as far ahead as you, we change our minds too often. 😆 Right now we are booked through May (really July with the Camino but nothing is booked for that part), and while I'm happy with the plan it seems weird having so much locked in.

Although we're booked, we're trying to leave some flex in. We still haven't figured out the week of volunteering yet

Great to see how fluid your planning is.👍 For May how about a French immersion course in Montreal Quebec? 🤔 It should be warm enough you’ll get to work on your French for when you go the the writing expo in Paris. Not to mention all the great food, architecture, and bike riding trails. 🥘🚲 More practice for your boat cruise /bicycle tour in Turkey 🇹🇷 😊🤔💪

Settle and find a housesit and work on some health goals or a new hobby. When I think of May, I think of flowers. I love Botanic Gardens and doing flower photography in May.

Aruba sounds like fun but honestly, I think you should not plan anything for May. Make a date sometime in March to go to dinner and decide on the spot where to go in May. Leave something open and don't try to plan every move.

Rather than Aruba, consider Bonaire. Much more laid back and chill (other than fellow nomads, we didn’t hear a single American accent while we were there) and the snorkeling is world-renowned. And the food and Dutch atmosphere is terrific. Though the infrastructure is not good for biking or walking.

I’m a visual planner so I use a map. I put a post-it with location/date for previous commitments. Then I make 2 lists - 5 places I want to go and 5 things I want to do. I make a post-it note for each and start pinning. After years of travel, my lists are short and I know my physical needs. I research what’s happening where and when, and the best places to go for what I want to do. Then I keep adjusting the post-it notes until it feels like a reasonable schedule and budget.

Do you need to always have the next leg of your "Nomading" around planned when you enter a country? I know when we travel now we have to always have to disclose that at passport control

Fun video. . . Which makes me mindful of how important it is for couples to to have great communication skills and/or similar traveling styles. We are completely booked through 2024 and well into 2025. Every accommodation for 2024 is even already paid for as are all the cruises. I have a page in my travel journal called “travel holes” that notes when I need to book a few airfares and hotels with points later this year. I’m now grabbing highly recommended rentals in South America and Portugal for 2025. And I already have 5 cruises booked for 2025, including 2 trans-Atlantic cruises. It’s a little obsesssive, I’m aware, but planning calms me.

In May? Rent a car and go on the Crooked Trail-the bluegrass route that takes you through southern Virginia and Tennessee-Johnny Cash’s home, Galax and Floyd, VA. . . It is an amazing drive. And May is the perfect time to do it.

Long talk but i know there was much talk as well proceeding even this snippet. Similar too you guys, we sold our stuff in WY and left in July 2021. Been overlanding Africa ever since. Now we are trying to figure out what to after a visit home this summer in 2024. It a world of possibilities hahah. Love my spreadsheet for looking back and planning forward. No house sitting for us though. Have you considered take some time to explore on your own, go your own separate ways? we did that in 2023 and planning for that in 2024. We are currently though living it large on the beach in Mozambique.

Since you are going to need to be in the Northeast in June anyway, maybe some time bicycling the Route Verte in Quebec in May? It's a 5300 kilometer network, so lots of options to choose from. The weather in Quebec will still be nice -- not too hot. We would like to do this ourselves sometime -- just haven't worked out the logistics of renting/buying bicycles for a reasonable price in Canada yet, or bringing them from the U.S.

I spent time last year tracing my grandmothers lineage to Ellis Island in 1900 from Romania.(knowing Romania would be part of the Schengen zone) I was able to see the Ellis island plaque in my family's name. What I found is most ancestry by citizenship do not accept grandparents. They want first and second generation only.

@Steve. Why not head to Roatan in Honduras in May to use your new OW scuba certification. Roatan and Utila are one of the top 5 diving locations in the world. You can use SW points to Belize City then a local flight to Roatan. Top rated beaches as well.

Depending where you're coming from, Bratislava and Kosice are the only 2 large towns in the country. So 3 days in each city plus 3 days in the village. If you want you could head to the Slovakian mountains south of Zakopane in Poland. I headed to Belgrade via Budapest as my 90 day visa was close to expiry. You will need months to see all of Turkey. I lived there for 14 months teaching English. Summer was the best time to visit as large parts of the country are high above sea level. Istanbul, Cappadocia, Lake Van, Nemrut, Fethiye / Oludeniz, Marmaris for a boat to Rhodes, Pamukkale / Aphrodisias, Selcuk / Ephesus, Ankara, Trabzon, Amasya, Sinop, Amasra, Kars / Ani, Sanliurfa were all great. Spent a few days in Konya and Kas / daytrip to Kastellorizo in Greece as well. You'll be spoilt for choice.

@@EatWalkLearn From Ankara you could also visit Hattusa the ancient Hittite capital near Boğazkale &/or Gordion which was was the capital city of ancient Phrygia. It was located at the site of modern Yassıhüyük, about 70-80 km (43-50 mi) southwest of Ankara. The father of King Midas has a tumulus there. If you get to Rhodes, Lindos and St Pauls Bay are terrific. Rhodes town has an interesting old castle and a ruined church but is very touristy.

We are doing ancestry citizenship for Croatia through my wife’s family tree. They don’t have a date cut-off, so we are basing the application off of a great-great grandfather who came to the U.S. in 1872. We’ve been successful in obtaining the subsequent birth certificates need to prove the required lineage.

@@beththomas6514 THANKS, I JUST WATCHED FOR THE FIRST TIME TODAY SO I GUESS THEY HAD ALL THAT INFO IN PREVIOUS VIDEOS. I ALWAYS JUST GO TO HOSTELS, EAT THE FREE BREAKFAST AND THEN EAT LOCALLY. I HAVE ONLY GONE FOR THE 3 MONTH VISA BEFORE RETURNING HOME TO HAWAII. I'M A 72 YR OLD WIDOW ON SS, WITH ONLY A CONDO FEE EVERY MONTH SO I CAN GO ON A BUDGET. IN 2019 I WENT ON A 30 DAY AFRICAN TRIP WITH ABSOLUTE AFRICA TO KENYA, UGANDA, AND RWANDA, WITH EXTRA PAY FOR SIDE TRIPS LIKE TO TREK TO THE GORILLAS, AND BALLOON RIDE. WE TRAVELED IN A BIG YELLOW BUS WITH 23 YOUNG ADULTS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES. WE WENT ON SAFARI'S DAILY TO NATIONAL PARKS TO SEE THE BIG 5. BEST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. NEVER WILL FORGET, AND HOLD IT DEAR. NOW I LOOK ARE WHERE TO GO, AND WOULD I EVEN EAT THE FOOD, AND WHAT RESTRICTIONS THEY HAVE FOR VACCINES. WHICH I WILL NOT GET. I DID GET THE MANDATORY VAX FOR GOING INTO AFRICA, A YELLOW FEVER I THINK, BUT TODAY IT GIVES ME PAUSE THINKING WHERE, NOT HOW. PS, I TYPE ALL CAPS TO SEE BETTER.. NOT SHOUTING.. ALOHA FROM HAWAII.
