I am 6'-5" tall. 60" is way too short. Good rule of thumb for all players - measure from floor to halfway between your chin and lower lip. Thats how long your cue should be. 67"-68" is good for 6'-5". After extensive experimentation, the best long cue is a two-piece butt because extensions (whether shaft or butt end) add too much weight and throw off the balance.

I’ve been playing this sport for 58 years and I can tell you, I pretty much agree with most of what you said. The bit about the glue and the layered tip seems a bit nit picky but other then that the entire video made complete sense.

I really like your content. So much hocus pocus around pool equipment! A good stroke is the most important thing and I also can shoot fine with a house cue + a few pieces of sandpaper 😊. This said though, I do think certain tips provide more "feel" and allow more "control". A local friend is about to release a new tip that has a beautiful feel to it.

I like hearing from folks with different opinions. I admit that I differ with you on several points, but that's OK. I keep my shooting cues as light as I can make them (under 19 oz. is my goal), and I use a 11.75 shaft with a soft tip. My theory is that when I master the equipment, I will be a better player. Most of the time, I am an average player, but when I am "in the zone" I wield that stick to its capacity. Being 6'3", I may try an extension. Just a little one, though, as reach isn't the issue. About the more english with a hard tip question versus a soft tip, my experience is a hard gives more english, but i will say that IF you have a really good stroke, you can put alot of english on, with any tip,,,, Bob Meucci has a video out explaining why a hard tip spins the ball more, his points were, a hard tip releases the cueball faster, and because the tip is hard it will spin it more, as far as the soft tip, it will absorb the cue ball, spending more time on the ball ,And get this, cause more deflection, because of the whipping of the shaft at contact, therefore throwing the cue ball more, because the tip absorbing more, seemed to make sense,,,, your info on layered tips has got me thinking now,lol, i use a hard kamui, triangle here i come!👍🎱

can't teach an old dog new tricks is right. i recently had some sessions with a very reputable coach, and my game actually got worse. i stuck with what he taught me and now its picking back up, with better quality wins, and more accurate shot making and cue ball control.

the length of a person's arms & desired bridge length are most important....im 5'9" but I have long gorilla arms & ive been trying to find a 64" cue with no luck unless I miraculously find an old palmer

I’ve struggled with finding the cue that “feels” right for a while now. Cue balance has been the hardest to work out. I prefer a forward weighted balance near the forearm of the butt. Do you have recommendations on adding weight to fine tune what suits the player?

I play with a 19oz but lag and break with a 31oz. I tried for a year to switch to a lighter breaker I just didn't break as well. It is what it is been playing 52 years and I don't have patience to figure it out again..

Honestly I can pick up a house cue and play just the same.

Here is an idea, as a cue maker you should be able to manipulate cue’s effective end mass to vary the cue’s natural pivot point so that it matches a customer's preferred bridge length. This would especially good for a break cue where squirt due to stroke errors are negated when the pivot point matches the bridge length. I believe that a cue’s larger diameter is more forgiving due to its greater end mass bring the cue’s natural pivot point closer to the shooter’s bridge thus minimizing squirt due to stroke errors. I also believe a small diameter/low deflection cue shaft is harder hit to due to the bridge being farther from the natural pivot point. Interestingly, none of the cue manufacturers mention the width of the cuebutt.

As long as the length and weight are right, any decent cue with a good tip should be enough. By decent, i mean the cue price over 300 US dollars. Skill is always above equipments. Mine is a 8 year old $200 cuetec. I can compete any top amature with it. I have tried different fancy expensive cues, but failed to find anything can justify the extra $.
