Nice comparison! It appears the Seestern has better designed endlinks similar to the older Doxas before Doxa made the first link after the endlink wider. The wider link does not sit well and looks strange whereas the Seestern is like the old Doxa and it flows off the endlink much nicer. I was wondering if the Seestern bracelet fits on the Doxa?

Damn, yes I forgot to mention that! The seesturn bracelet drapes better of the end link! I do like the way the doxa bracelet flares better, but those first links don't articulate enough. I love the seesturn bracelet, but it unfortunately does not fit in the doxa, neither the end links or the bracelet using the doxa end links.

Super comparison review Pete. I already own a Doxa 1200T (Shark Hunter 🦈 ) and a Seestern Doxa (orange face) and my Seestern Syncron/ military should arrive any day, so really grateful for the vid 👍

This is just a theory that I can't prove but I feel part of the reason Doxa is able to charge so much is not only their quality but the provenance of it being a famous author's watch of choice. Doxa was Clive Cussler's favorite watch and he actually gave his character Dirk Pitt the same watch he wore. Doxa is to the Dirk Pitt novels what Omega is to 007.

@@Kilroy6644 I almost bought a Doxa. I'm a huge Dirk Pitt fanboy but after watching a multitude of reviews I went with the Seestern. I currently am wearing it and it keeps the best time of any watch in my collection; even better than my 700 dollar Bulova Oceanographer. I also brought it diving and it handled immensely well. The lume is also 10 times brighter than a Doxa. I'm genuinely considering buying thr Seestern in both yellow and tiffany blue too.

Well that was an eye opener! I personally think that the Doxa (like all big name brands) is way overpriced. I have watches with both these movements, to be honest apart from Swiss bragging rights I don't think there's much between them, I've got NH35A watches that run more accurately than my best ETA 2824, only by 1-1.5 secs per 24 hours and the Seiko's will probably last longer (? maybe ?) The Doxa is no doubt very special but the Seestern is damn close and probably makes more sense for many. Long live the Chinese homages flippin the bird to the Swiss giants. Great video Pete

Really interesting video, Pete. All your criticisms of the Seestern are exactly my thoughts. I can't see myself buying a Synchron at those prices but if they fix the handset, bezel etc. I'd be tempted. PS that new Doxa 600 is fire.

Great seeing these two side by side. I’m really enjoying my Seestern. However I wish the bracelet was a bit more substantial and not a huge fan of the clasp. Thanks mate 👍

I just got one, I know what you mean, still makes a nice change from some of my heavier watches. There's something about the clasp that feels thin. The steel that forms the signature starfish section looks thicker than it feels tho' but it sounds thin too. The bracelet again would benefit from some weight and thickness, but then it would have to be more expensive. Not easy to replace either I suspect. Still there's always rubber? Great watch at the price tho', good looking, really well finished From what I've heard they're accurate, mine gains between 2 & 3 secs per day on wrist, that'll do nicely

For me the choices came down to between the Seestern and the tactical frog version two, I went with the tactical frog because I don’t like the bulge on case back, The frogs case back is basically flush with the watch and the watch is overall thinner and it just melts into your wrist. I have 7 inch wrists so I don’t want a lot of height on a watch and I believe the lug to lug is even a little shorter than the Seestern. I love the NH 35 a movement and I’ve had this on several watches, when I first got my frog two months ago it was -10 seconds slow per day and I was actually going to adjust it last night but when I checked it on the time Grapher again it’s now running -2 to 0 seconds so maybe something broke in with the movement or the oils got distributed more evenly or something but it’s actually running better. And I can’t really explain it otherwise because other people say when watch movements “settle” they slow down. But I’m happy with it, if only I had waited two more weeks I could’ve had the version three with the perfect bezel. BTW to date NO ONE on RU-vid has done a review of the Tactical Frog 300T V3, so you could be the first (if you were considering getting one)

The thing I really don't like about the Seestern is how recessed the dial is. I prefer the dial to be as close to the glass as possible

What I didnt hear you say is the dial on the Seestern sits much deeper, it's like looking into a bowl. Lots of cheaper homage watches have this. Addiesdive flieger for one.

The stainless steel color of the Seestern case looks a lot cheaper than the DOXA. That’s why it’s a homage.

So, it appears that you have a V3 Seestern. That iteration reduced the height of the bezel, bringing down the original dimensions from 13.6mm, to the more typical 13mm height. In the case of the Doxa (literally), the case back and bezel are doing the lion's share of water resistance, whereas the case itself is merely a life ring - think Yema, for context.

Great comparison Pete. I've got the Seestern MOP dial and it's a beautiful watch and comfortable to wear. I can't imagine the Doxa being that much better even with the price difference. The movement seems better on the time graph and the water resistance blows the Seestern away. For my needs though it's the Seestern. I want the Orange. Teddy Baldassarre did some awesome macro shots of the orange dial which I doubt the Seestern would match. The quality is awesome. Thank you Pete. 👍🇬🇧

I am a fan of the Seestern. I have 3 Tactical Frogs, 2 Doxa homage types and a turtle. I have this exact Seestern. The Frog wears lower. It is also 12.9MM thick.

Not sure you can call the Seestern a Synchron homage, when the Synchron is just a more accurate homage of the DOXA SUB 11891-4 Army.

Cool, this is the comparison that was missing. I have the Seestern V2 and it does feel a little top heavy on my 6.7" wrist. So the doxa isn't top heavy? Could you weight just the head of each watch? Without the bracelet.

Unfortunately I already sent the Seestern back to El Jefe. The doxa never struck me as top heavy, but that's probably in part due to the substantial bracelet it's on acting as a counterbalance.

You can compare a top notch Rolex 'homage' against the real thing and only a Rolex expert could tell the difference...IF he removed the caseback and saw the movement. Ultimately a homage doesn't scratch the itch because they're copies and nobody gets excited about a fake.

Good review. But in my opinion Seestern? You won't be able to get rid of it or will have a difficult time. No-name brand for most, watch snobs won't touch it. Fine if you don't mind paying $200 to be stuck with it (or give it away to your nephew like I did mine). Decent make of course but imho just save the $1.8k & buy the real thing.

I'd like to see a comparison between the Doxa Sub 600T and the Seestern homage. I know that you really like the 600T and would like to know what you thought. I love it too but it's way out of my price range but now Seestern have sorted the too small hours hand out I'm very tempted. The Seestern Sub 300T is a cracking little watch, especially at the ridiculous price they charge, puts the build quality of £500 Seiko's to shame. Doxa certainly know how to design an interesting case, the 300T & 600T couldn't be more different but they are both a bit special.

Value for money wise....The Seestern is unbeatable.......So much Watch for so little money......A 15th of the price of the Doxa.....But 95 % of the quality !.
