I love sewing hotpads...especially if they are quick and easy! The first one I did I left an opening the back then I realized...why not leave an opening in the front!
AND NO HAND STITCHING NEEDED.
I USED CANVAS FABRIC FOR THE FRONT AND BACK AND 2 LAYERS OF WARM AND NATURAL AND ONE LAYER OF TOWEL.
It is also recommended to use insul-bright but that can be expensive and I didn't have any.
quick and easy hot pad, no binding hot pad, how to sew a hot pad, hot pad sewing tutorial
very good: self binding hot pad, how to make a hot pad
good: diy hot pad
I love all things sewing, I also sew clothes for my daughter and myself and other women in my life.

Common question I’m getting….Cut the backing 8.5” 2:18
@carolejungbluth24
@carolejungbluth24 10 месяцев назад
For a beginner it would have been helpful that you explained to sew the 2 opposite borders, then pressed them, then sewed the other 2. After pressing take the loop and make sure the looped part is on the inside of the potholder so it is correct when it is turned. Again, if you are hoping to instruct a beginner more than less explanation is helpful. You wizzed thru it all so fast I made mistakes and had to rewatch more than a few times. But to note you do a much better job than the other ones I watched.

When I sew from videos, I always have to stop the videos, then proceed again since following the steps is easier for a new project and I've sewn for years:)

I like the technique and I'm going to try it. However, some key information was missing from the video and instructions. It would have been nice if you had included the dimensions for cutting the backing and insulating layers. The best feature of this method is to leave a turning gap when attaching one of front edge pieces; I felt like you glossed over the instructions in that area. Although the video showed how you placed the front, back and insulation layers together, I think it would have been helpful if you had also clearly stated how to assemble the layers. I wish that you had recommended an exact seam allowance. For an experienced seamstress, saying to use 1/4" to 5/8" may be fine, but for an instructional video, I think it would be better to give the exact seam allowance. Also, the method that you used in second example was somewhat different and I think you should have provided some commentary. In spite of my earnest suggestions, I do think your finishing technique for hot pads is much better than any others that I've seen. You're very professional and have a lovely voice and video presence.

While I wish I could have loved this tutorial it didn't work very well. The lack of instructions stating how to do things lead to a great deal of confusion for me and caused me to mess this up several times. I see in the comments that many people seemed to have been able to do this quite easily, but I hope for future videos you can state every thing you are doing so that all levels can complete the item how it was intended.

Woohoo! I just made one! I used Pellon Insul Fleece only because I had it on hand. I only buy it when Joann runs all interfacing 50% off. TIP- if you use this, make sure to make your sandwich like this: Place one panel on table shiny side down, add your inner layer, then next shiny side up, then your backing fabric right side up and your top panel right side down. This will ensure the heat gets reflected towards source. This was so much faster than the binding ones! Thanks again Delilah!! ❤

Hi again. I also do not understand the different lengths of fabric for the binding. 2 - 1.25 x 7 and 2 - 1.25 X 8.5. When you're sewing it doesn't look like there is a difference. Pretty new to this sewing business.
@lw984

It is because after the first sides are sewn on, it makes it wider. Then you add the 8.5 side and they will match. Hope that helps.
