Firearms are one of the few items you can buy that actually increase in cost over time. Can't think of a single firearm I have bought that went down in value. Most have doubled or tripled over 20 years.

Yeah but have you ever tried to sell one? It’s hard to actually get a good value for them. Gun shops and pawn shops offer you like 100 bucks. Might as well just keep them. Too hard to sell them.

Good advice for any serious collector. I had many guitars and I got rid of those I reflected on and didn't "love," thinned the heard and also reeled in my collection to a reasonable level :)

most guitars don't go up in value. firearms go down in value when restored. every single year there are less collectible items available. Dave is dead wrong on this

I definitely think there are stages in collecting. There is a time where you take in everything. Then you end up having things you don't use. Then eventually you unload the collection when you get older. I am in the early stages of collecting and I met older collectors that sold me their stuff knowing I was a collector that wasn't gonna flip their stuff.

Keep the ones you actually use for hunting and target practice. Also keep any specially sentimental valued ones. The possibly $2 to $3 million WWII memorabilia collection my father accumulated... all burned in a fire. Not covered by insurance. You have to have each item professionally appraised and specifically covered or it is just scrap metal to the insurance company.

That’s why Dave said to not sell them unless he has extras he doesn’t like as much as the rest. Why have multiples of a gun sitting in a cabinet if you are in debt? Obviously have one or two weapons per person in the house, but a collection is unnecessary if you can’t afford it

I am a female and honestly I don't think they are very comparable. Unless maybe I'm lugging a brick around in my purse, it's more likely to attract criminals than stop them. I think purses and video games are more comparable

But it won't beat Switzerland as a whole (Have YOU been there?). And yes, in Switzerland a lot of men are life long soldiers (army reserve) and they get to keep their rifles at home! Part of their constitution. The Swiss really have their ducks in a row...

Don't be ridiculous, of course he should sell them; having so much of his net worth tied up to collectables is absolute insanity and most of you would agree with this statement if this was any other collectable. If this was a car collection Dave would have given a completely different answer.
