Boxing, mma and wwe all of them want to sell you a fight. That is the reason behind the acting. Go see interviews of them after they retire and come back later
An amazing story, what is so remarkable is how much he relates to the honour of warriors in a battle; none of this bravado, mockery and insults that many modern day fighters choose to display. It went way beyond sport and yet Benny remained humble, always acknowledging any good strike by his opponent. Ultimately, he gained the respect of not only the partisan crowd but also martial art enthusiasts the world over.
Benny is the bomb. It's awesome to be able to hear his perspective on his fights. He is probably the most humble fighter I have ever seen and is a natural competitor.
Benny is to me one of the absolute best compedetive fighters of all time. Watching his fights and drills helps me so much in my training preparing for my upcoming tournament fights. .
I have met Mr. Urquidez once on street in West Hollywood. I have never met a person like him. He was totally controlling his emotions. He showed me his no proud look, neither mimic humiliated attitude. He was gentle, and courteous. He showed me his gym where he was training stuntmen and women. He emphasized me that the stretching and flexibility are vital. His smooth walking was emanating atmosphere of a dancer, rather than a martial artist.
Nice bro..Sorry you had 2 leave , but god will guide you and I pray your mom has an even longer life and her health be restored.May God bless the work of your hands and make you to prosper in everything..To Him be all the Glory , Honor , and Praise!God Bless!! :-)
I appreciate you so much, brother. Im glad for that I left there and living with my mother now. It is my responsibility to take care of her. Im so blessed for that I have people who encourage and support me to take care of her now. Even though my friends who lived with their parents suffered from the dimentia/Alzheimer disease have shared their experiences in past, it is not easy to deal with on the 24/7 bases. I ask HIm to dwell in me to continousely change my response towards her and others. In this way, I might perceive my life better. Im still looking for a church where I can belong to as a member. Im working on to study at the Univ of Maryland in the US Military Bases in Okinawa, Japan now. Not the Univ of Texas although it's available here, because Univ of Manyland is here is where my dad earned the AA degree before he transferred to the Sophia University in Tokyo. Hope you understand that Im not personally againsting to the Texans. I live near Gate #5 of USMC Camp Butler/Foster in Chatan, Okinawa in Japan. Ive ran 4km today on and by the Humbee Beach where is in my hood. Running on the beach avoids the knee injure, but builds the strength the muscles on thighs and calves. I run on toes when on the hard grounds. Peace,
Martin Brand God gave her dementia, you should know that, God controls everything, he is making her suffer for something she has done, maybe it's something you don't know about, God doesn't make mistakes, he just wants her to suffer, I'm sorry to give you the news but you most know how God works
Martin Brand lol no one has control over there emotions. People can be aware of them but not control them unless your suppressing them. That’s a illusions of control.
This man is a walking, talking, living legend. He is most definitely a paradox. On the one hand you have one of the most talented and dangerous combat sports practioners of his era, and on the other hand you have one of the most genuinely humble, gracious and generous men to ever be at his level of celebrity. Cheers!
Great story, gives insight to this great fighter. Urquidez the first contact fighter to have repeated success in kickboxing outside of US, the first fighter who'd fought in traditional, points, contact karate, the lot..and beat the Japanese and Thai boxers, and the first to deal successfully defending against leg kicks.
Benny I've been studying formerly since 1984, but I was making my own nunchucks at age 9 from seeing Bruce Lee in enter the Dragon, but I'm amazed that I have only found out about you recently thanks to you tube and your fight with Bill super foot Wallace, I must say your legs are superior foot in the martial arts world, and you're an amazing teacher, love your lesson on leg checks and all your teachings, your my national treasure😃
Hey Bennie, one of your fights is what motivated me to get into kickboxing [not sure which one] maybe this one. Anyway I had an amateur record of 20-9 with 15 by KO. You have always been an inspiration to me. I bought a book authored by you, and learned kickboxing from that...never really took any formal lessons. I still have that one punch knockout power...well at least in my right hand...and I'm 58 yrs old!!! THANK YOU BENNIE THE JET!!! No it wasn't this fight...I remember that it ended with a jump spinning back kick...I ended 6 of my opponents with it...five to the body, one to the head...
My friend you were there. It's called da sh vu In this life time the next one you will even be better in your next life. Good bless Benny Like all your fights Bob Preger
The man is a living legend!!! I always loved watching him fight. I'm a Goju Ryu practitioner, and we had a very similar style of approach to a fight. You know, that continuation of techniques.
You and your whole family, a true landmark in martial arts. From Arnolds front kicks in point fights (I mean 'real points' , one of the few who was anywhere near back then to beating Joe), through to your last pro fight, fighting truly internationally, winning the best there was, and the way you revolutionised training; exceptional.
What an Exciting fight. Sensei Benny picked him apart and demolished him like a true Warrior. It was a true Gladiator vs Gladiator War. Btw those announcers were so biased...gosh, the irony!
Such a great humble guy, lots of integrity and a fantastic warrior too. Had this been a gracie talking it wouldnt be like this at all. It would have been like "Gracie jujitsu is the best. You can rely on it. You cant rely on other arts. Learn Gjj, other arts dont work". The gracies only know two things. ....Never admitting a loss and shamelessly promoting thier own art.
...And Sensei Urquidez so quiet, thoughtful and humble in reflection thereupon. What an absolute Legend and Kickboxing pioneer..!! The sport and martial system could never have asked for a better pioneer to increase it's popularity and fame in the West, nor to gain true recognition and respect in the East for the Western fighters.
Benny, you are the very spark that got me now passionate about boxing!! You have this special presence and passion and love (hard to explain..) that are so different and contagious-like I see the dude from the “They Live” film with all of his freedom spirit and scent from the eighties. Much blessings and joy and health to you! I was just watching videos around, disappointed with the way they made us practice aikido in here, then seeing how effective boxing is I watched video after video but couldn’t relate to a posture of stooping forward, hands in front of face,. Then suddenly I saw one of your videos, you with a very unusual guard, relaxed posture, arms opened, offering excellent visibility and tricking the opponent to enter...then suddenly I felt this special magic thing that you project (besides the obvious effectiveness of such an approach), and I feel you like real inspiration. .. next thing I have to find a club haha but do have a punchbag. Cheers!!
I have so much respect for you as a martial artist and ex-kickboxing champion. PROVEN. Undeniable...and find it funny it's a guy like Bruce Lee who is called the "MA icon"....no belt earned and never competed in MA on any level. Just a great entertainer--Lee. Wish you all the best.
awesome he's so exciting to watch .and his movement and pressure he puts on the best endurance in that sport hands down .and no's to seize the moment . and in my day 1978 . pka was around but seen the jet and he was the real deal .this is more exciting than mma to me and always thought had the potential pka also to be big just was run wrong at the time and fighters they got in .even back then i was planing to go and train at jet center.. but due to hibernation lower back at 23 that put a stop to that when ya can't walk.the jet was the best all around back them for many years .but alot of credit to the underrated fighters to who work very hard . i'm 51 and hanging in there training but injury's are tuff changes everything . but happy can still do as i can awesome to the jet in my prayers always
Sensei, I'm going to see my 70th birthday next Saturday, providing the good Lord sees fit for it to be so. One of the many things I'm thankful for is living through a time when the very greatest to ever do it laced up their gloves and showed the world EXACTLY how it ought to be done. You STILL have so much to give that I hope you're around for a long, long time. I actually laughed when I heard it said you were 143 pounds. Why? Because 143 pounds is a GIANT sized talent that we've all been blessed to see in the form of Sensei Benny "The Jet" Urquidez.
Benny is a true fighting legend icon-so versatile quick and powerful with his techniques-and ever the true martial artist-humble- one of the few American based kickboxers at the time that competed overseas that didn’t get beat down-at this time period, I think only him and Don Wilson and Dekkers were winning overseas
Benny "The Jet" - Awesome bro! First saw you in a scene with Jackie Chan in "Meals on Wheels" and I was like, oh my gosh! Good stuff man! Nice fight, nice win!
I also like that feel of long pants, That sound of cloth in the air push me to be faster, I feel faster and maybe because of it I am faster. Amazing to hear from Benny about this fight, about that feeling, that Tremendous Will in his eyes, in his heart, true warior.
I say Benny the jet has great concentration and speed strength. I love this man style. in fighting this man is a great fighter just as Bruce Lee was these guys are two of my favorite Fighters.
