@@christonadams9046 It can spike, but only during the first few frames of the attack. So if you're freefalling and dropping a full screen from above (like Max) then it won't spike. That's why it's best to use it whilst you're standing on the VERY edge of the stage, as a means of edgeguarding.
I love the creativity that put into Spirit battles. Fighting Jessie, the other two guys, and Barrett on Midgar while a bunch of explosive items spawn in, brunette Zelda as Aerith, a giant Zero Suit Samus on the Ice Climber stage as Shiva, a green Sheik as Yuffie, I love it.
If you own the Mii costumes, you actually fight a Mii Aerith instead of Zelda. Tifa, Chocobo & Mog and Barett also wear their Mii costumes if you own them.
they've been doing that all the way from the vanilla release. the range of characters, stages and music (plus all the different conditions) allows them to make the Spirit battles rife with mythology gags.
That feeling when you dont realize that the miis that you fight before barret are the avalanche gang and cloud in the aerith fight is a throwback to when cloud was told he was aeriths bodyguard.
And that he was right next to her when she died. And defeating him isn't necessary to clear the stage because, hey, killing him wasn't necessary for killing Aerith in FFVII, either.
Cloud's fighter spirit finally got alternate artwork, along with everything else. For the longest time, his fighter spirit only had his model, and no original artwork. Everyone else had original artwork and their game model, except Cloud. He finally has some.
@@beansael2454 In Robin's case, it's because no actual official artwork for Robin, apart from what's used in Fire Emblem Heroes, exists. Don't know why they didn't use the FRLG renders for Red and Leaf, though.
@@Random1567 yh i got that, sadly the game doesn’t go out it way to tell you which fights have been changed after buying the dlc. You cant turn it off either

Really cool that you checked out this mode. I'm glad that you seemed to have fun with it! All those little FF7 references like Link using down air attacks as Cid's dragoon jump or you having to fight AVALANCHE before fighting Barret (and Jessie even has a bomb!) were really cool. The Aerith Cloud fight is actually harder if you don’t have the Mii costume DLC since they replace Aerith sword fighter with Zelda, who has more annoying projectiles and a better recovery
@@HeyItsRicki85 The little bastards even reference it not only in Cloud's flashback visions, but in the ending (Spoilers, Sephiroth's still and asshole) where he actually tries to kill Aerith, Could stops him, and she immediately says "What, were you worried about me?"
I love the use of Mr. Game & Watch not just as Cait Sith's toy soldiers, but also referencing how Cait Sith's Limit Breaks are mostly based around random chance, just like Judge. Also the irony of Gigaflare-ing Bahamut ZERO is great.
Every spirit battle was delightful, and those who do know all the references will love it even better. Some may argue that this is actually a problem for Ultimate, since if you dont know what all the Spirit Battles reference, they are just meaningless or a waste of time. I dont entirely agree with that.
I love the stages chosen for these fights, too, specially Aerith's (resembling the Forgotten City), and Red XIII's (resembling Cosmo Canyon). Besides, we got Biggs, Wedge, Jessie, Reno, Rude, Elena and Tseng as free mii fighters! (You only have to copy them)

Spikes and meteors typically only have the downward launch angle during a specific part of the move. Usually, like with Sephiroth, it's only the very first few frames of the move.
i love how max is pretty much ill equipped to do any dlc spirit boards. just makes it more enjoyable to watch since max has to try harder than most people.
I've gotta say that I love this new thing you're doing with the editing where you start off with a cool clip from the video at the beginning before the intro because it gives you a little taste of what's to come right up front.

Also love these cute references Tifa battle I assume is a Easter egg to her limit break Barret has Jessie, Biggs and wedge as mii brawlers (cute btw) Aerith battles takes place in fountain of dreams a reference to the forgotten city Yuffie is obvious battle in a forest area where you can find her and sheik as her Vincent as wolf because of the gun and gets giant because of his second transformation Cid battles at the halberd RedXIII as duck hunt is cute and funny because gerudo valley is a reference to Cosmo Canyon Cat Sith Roy is funny because the Mr game and watch are either the slot limit break or dice limit break I wish the Rufus battle had a duck hunt as an ally because both remake and original have home with a dog enemy but like the Mii goons This is just for people who don’t get the reference
Idk if anyone noticed but they updated the cloud spirit so it's not the 3d render of his character selection pose from the game and rather it's the same style as sephiroth and the other ff7 spirits, just something I noticed 😊
I beat the Tifa spirit without touching her. The Mii Brawler hit a smash attack on me and sent me past the ledge. As Kirby, I tried to reset my position, and the Brawler chased me off the field, but started to fall facing away from the ledge. It used it’s up B recovery, but fell without grabbing the ledge and SDed. I couldn’t believe my luck
When I saw Sephiroth get into Smash, I was immediately like, "I WANNA BE ABLE TO FIGHT EVERY SINGLE GODDAMN MEMBER OF AVALANCHE IN THEM SPIRIT BATTLES." Then I get to 1:55 in this video and an Avalanche shaped hole in my heart was filled. _AVALANCHE TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME!_

These spirit battles are super cute and cool, a lot of fitting characters to stand in for the FF7 characters! Also that cute touch for Shiek or Shieffie where the character is more likely to be distracted by items, I love it cause Yuffie is a materia hunter and such!
