Personally, I think sakurai does a lot of justice for the fighting game characters in smash. Just my opinion

Something I've noticed that I havent seen anyone else mention. Sephiroth's design in smash is god like because of how it uses subtle queues to make the attacks believable. Think about it, if Sephiroth were to swing around his sword for his neutral special and forward air like Shulk and Ike do, he would be the best character in the game and OP by far. But they made it so it doesn't feel strange that he's not attacking in such a way. There are only three moves where the Masamune is allowed to touch the ground. His down air, his down smash, and his forward air against the edge. Each one of these moves has the animations of the character, effects, and even the HD rumble communicate that the sword has physically hit the ground with serious impact. With a sword of that size, you would need to be careful to not accidentally get it stuck somewhere swinging it wildly, which means that there would be situations where it would be wiser to choose not to use the sword like his neutral air, or to use it in a safer movement like his forward air's stabbing motion. Meanwhile, for his upsmash, up air, and up throw, he uses the swords coverage to it's fullest extent without fear, because it won't hit the ground that way. Playing him subconsciously makes you feel less like "Oh his moves are like this because he would be OP if he went all out" and more into the mindset of him being mindful and strategic with his weapon

Yeah they did a great job of balancing the moveset for a character with by far the longest sword in the game! Having the sword behind him in his idle animation also adds to the notion that he only pulls out the sword when he needs it, they did such a good job with this character

Some how his sword sticking while swinging feels funny to me , seeing as how he actually slice things in half with just one handed swing in many cg he appear in.

We're not going to talk about how he's a playable boss character, He has a few similarities in his attributes and moves with boss characters in others games and the ones in smash He holds back until his 2nd phase being wing mode Like.... well a lot of bosses He hits with explosive power that can make your shield go *pop like Galleom He has big hitboxes to cover options that not many other characters can compare with Scintilla and his armor smash attacks are similar to other big FG bosses that have armor passivley to make up for their large frame Shadow Flare reminds me of Vergil's spiral swords from his boss fight DMC3 His victory screens are made a lot like game over screens I could go on, but I think the point has been made. I love this character's design.

Correct and Byleth was moreso a product of bad timing since they came at the end of a fighter pass full of hype third party characters Min Min was the best choice from a disappointing Nintendo IP

Fair, I just think that Sephiroth had a bigger impact than at least Marth since Marth's popularity was largely springboarded by his inclusion in Melee. Hero from DQ3 is debatable though

Terry "comeback" mechanic is part of his games. Fatal Fury any character that drops to 1/3 health has access to their Super Secret moves, so it isn't a comeback mechanic its apart of his character.

@@Piccolo918 No, It's still a comeback mechanic. All comeback mechanics are tied to the characters in some way outside of rage, that's not grounds for not being comeback mechanic. It's not as annoying as stuff like Arsene or aura for 2 reasons 1. Terry in normal gameplay can and will die before he gets the buff 2. It mostly buffs his advantage, only slightly buffs and neutral, and doesn't do anything while you're getting hit or pressured. Safe options will normally give you enough time to not get hit by the supers, and you can't use them midair making completely useless while getting juggled or edgeguarded

Like I replied to Ottoe, that's a good point that Marth and DQ3 Hero predate Sephiroth! But I'd still say that Sephiroth has a much bigger impact than at least Marth because Marth and Fire Emblem's popularity were largely springboarded by his inclusion in Melee. DQ3 Hero is debatable though

There are a lot of anime swordsmen in anime before Marth, Sephiroth, and Link. So no Smash character is the "original anime swordfighter."

When it comes to DLC, I feel like when it comes to hype reveals, Joker may have been the best one. But I think Banjo and Hero were also pretty good ones. Byleth had some bad timing (and is unfairly overhated. Too much knee jerk reactions.). Min Min was a good one for ARMS lovers, although overall she didn't have enough impact overall. At least she isn't hated like Byleth though. And the playstyle can be rewarding if you put the time in. Steve I think, like Joker, had a great reveal, and also has introduced an extremely deep moveset. There's all sorts of amazing strategies to use when using Min Min.

Agreed on Joker, Banjo, and Hero having great reveals, I'd put Sephiroth up there with them too It's wierd because Byleth was hated due to bad timing (being released at the end of the fighter pack after so many hype third party characters) but over time the Min Min hate has passed Byleth because of her playstyle/how good she is We'll see where things go from here!

I agree with your ending statement: Sephiroth's gonna be really hard to follow up on. With the first impression he made, the fact that he hails from the previously-poorly-represented FF7, and every other reason for the hype, the next fighter's gonna have to really pack a punch, especially if they're a first-party rep.

It would be funny if the regular Supernova animation activated when the Smash meter was full, but when you got a Smash Ball, then the 2-minute Supernova animation would play.

I know seeing from your video that Min Min isn't that engaging because of the game she comes from (and the fact I knew way before hand Ram Ram was gonna be the most obnoxious ARM by far) but I just wanted to let you know, ARMS sequel could be drastically improved and I'm actually looking forward to it. I mean Street Fighter didn't get popular on its first game, the sequel did and this was the Mario Kart team's first attempt at a fighting game. I will give it credit they do have something going for it so I hope they take the advice from there fans well and add new ways to attack or add a fresh new mechanic. As for Banjo I was super hyped and I still love playing him, but it sucks he's more effective at camping then being a heavy all-rounder. I do think next Smash game when they come back (because personally I think they will both stay) they will make some better adjustments to them!

If they can build upon the first ARMS game and make it a more engaging experience for both viewers and players I would be all for that! I was expecting an ARMS 2 announcement when Min Min was added to Smash but it never came Agreed on Banjo, it's such a shame that his best combos with Breegull Gun are super hard to do and put serious strain on your hands. I really hope they come back in Smash 6!

I also saw in some of the comment here saying Min Min was the best option... well the option to make the most people happy is there, but moveset wise... yeah I was right about how it would go. You want to know who I'm rooting for next time? Mr. Magic Muscles himself, Max Brass, he would have been the funnest edition IMO. I could go over all the ARMS characters if you want me too and I'll let you know how they would be in Smash. Like I don't think Spring Man would be as bad as everyone thinks he's decent. Ribbon Girl tho... lets just say Min Min was number 4 or 3 on the most less then fun choice they would have went with. (I still blame Ram Ram and if Sakurai would have chosen Ninjara I would have also blame Chakram) So let me know if you want to hear my hot take predictions. Because I know ARMS is gonna get more reps in Smash in the future, especially if it does well.

Banjo is hands down my favorite DLC added in ultimate, I just wish he was better in a tournament setting is all :( Rayman is one of the highest on my list of most wanted characters too! My top 2 are Tails and Paper Mario though

Yeah out of all the games from the DLC so far, Three houses is by far my favorite and Byleth is pretty cool. Plus fem Byleth is top tier waifu.

Byleth was a fine addition to the game (I'm a big Fe and Three Houses fan), but they were an unfortunate victim of bad time. The majority of fans were understandably disappointed to have a fighter pack full of hype third party DLC characters ended with another Fire Emblem sword character

@@PowPowSmash To be fair, Byleth makes use of several different weapons. Not just a sword. Heck, their sword isn't even a regular sword--it's a segmented whip that can latch onto people. It's been a year since they've been revealed, and honestly people should just move on at this point. If you don't like a character, just don't use them.

Personally, Min Min and Banjo & Kazooie were the most hype for me, and I really enjoy playing as Min Min too. I also really like the other DLC additions, as well as the bonus oddball Piranha Plant. Byleth is probably the only character I feel kinda "meh" about in comparison, due to the Fire Emblem overrepresentation. Now hopefully, Rayman gets in too.

Did anyone recognize Sephiroth's U-tilt being similar to the stabby stabby octaslash from AC. His U-smash and U-throw seems to look like a part of Heaven's light from Dissidia His Nair looks like Heartless angel from KH2, but it's around Sepy instead of Sora. Most of everything else is from Ehrgeiz I didn't even know what that was until this guy was out.

4:49 Actually that's really stupid, and I'd argue they should design stages to be causal friendly seeing as most of the smash community are causals and competitive players can literally just turn the stage to Final Destination Layout or turn stage hazards off.

It's funny though how like the 2 characters almost everyone hates are the characters that I actually like, and the characters that I put a good amount of time in learning how to play them. It probably helps I actually played both their games beforehand too. (I've played Minecraft too, and I enjoy both the game and Steve in Smash, but Steve is a character I can not play properly)

I have 300-hundred something hours of playtime with Sephiroth, not to mention 4000 wins, which is the first ANY Smash character has gotten me to. Sephiroth is the first-EVER character to get me 4000 wins and that's INSANE, because my old mains didn't even get me to my goal. Sephiroth pushed me toward my ultimate prize and I'm happy that he did. And yes, I AM using Spirits for him {Sirius, Aerith and Kokorowa}. No other Ultimate character has pushed me so far like Sephiroth has done and I'm so thankful that Sakurai and Nintendo introduced him for Ultimate.

Actually, there were 5 Final Fantasy tracks that were given to Sakurai to use, and 3 of them are actually in Smash Bros. for Wii-U and 3DS and Ultimate. He is lying when he said he only had the rights to 2. He only used 2 for stages so that fans would notice and ask for more.

@@PowPowSmash Yes. Three tracks are already in the game if you include Cloud's victory theme. During Smash Bros. Direct videos, the Final Fantasy 7 main theme and a version of the Chocobo theme were also used. Am I the only one who thinks that a second WarioWare rep might get in Smash because of voice acting? Since Super Smash Bros. 4, Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus characters spoke in various reveal trailers when Palutena, Dark Pit, Robin, Lucina and Corrin were added in SSB4. Now that WarioWare characters can talk, wouldn't Nintendo/Sakurai want to remind fans of that milestone by adding one in Smash and having the others talk in his/her trailer? They would want fans to remember the voices of first-party characters, right?

Not sure if voice acting would be the reasoning for a second character, but considering how long the franchise has been a mainstay for Nintendo it would definitely be deserving of a second rep in Smash! Though I'm not sure who they would pick since they're isn't an obvious #2 character in that game to pick with Ashley being an assist trophy again. Maybe Mona? Completely unrelated but I hope we get WarioWare for Switch soon!

@@PowPowSmash Also, call me crazy, but I think Nintendo may have a preference (or bias) towards not only Fire Emblem, but also Intelligent Systems IPs when it comes to Smash DLC (WarioWare, Paper Mario, etc.), based on various factors. Why else would Byleth get in Smash before Rex? Why else would Paper Mario: The Origami King have a spirit board event a month after release while games like Super Mario Maker 2 and Luigi's Mansion 3 still don't have any? I would expect someone from a Nintendo game developed by Intelligent Systems game to occupy a remaining spot in Vol. 2, like how Byleth occupied a spot in Vol. 1.

Those sound like good guesses! I think another Sega rep is also likely since they got one in fighter pass 1 along with Microsoft/Square Enix and both of those companies got a second rep already in Fighter Pass 2

Min Min was a fun reveal. Byleth on the other hand was a true letdown. Overall I think people were tired of Fire Emblem characters and it was an anticlimactic way to end the first fighter pass.

MinMin was definitely the best case scenario for an ARMS rep, way better than say Spring Man. It's just hard to get excited about a character from a game people didn't play much and probably won't be getting a sequel being added to the franchise. Agreed on Byleth coming from a big Fire Emblem fan. I wonder if Steve was supposed to be the last character in fighter pass 1 but got delayed because Byleth being the last character in the pass was awful timing

I heard rumors that Byleth was planned for the base game. Honestly I would of had no issues if that happened instead but now it's a bit disappointing that it is paid dlc that had limited characters.

Banjo was hype, but he lacks interesting gameplay. Min Min was underwhelming, but brought in a whole new style of gameplay. Sephiroth was both EXTREMELY hype AND is incredibly fun to play.

Agreed on everything! Unfortunately Min Min's gameplay of "stand halfway across the stage and shoot ARMS" isn't exactly the most engaging to play against though 😅

While I do like Sephiroth as a character in Smash, I won't lie I am a bigger fan of the fighting game characters; Ryu, Ken and Terry are my personal favorite characters. If we get another fighting game character I would like either a Tekken character, or if by some chance we get a second SNK rep, I'd happily take Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown. Why Nakoruru? Why not? She's cute. Plus, she would really piss people off as she comes with the double baggage of not only being a fighting game character, but an anime swordfighter we too! 😂

Unfortunately both first party DLC characters got a bad shake, which is why I didn't mention that they needed to be third party to be hype Byleth: A fine addition to the roster from a great game, but was the last fighter in a fighter pass full of hype DLC picks. Plus Byleth is yet another Fire Emblem sword character when they could've added Edelgard as an axe wielder instead Min Min: The best case scenario for an ARMS rep, but ARMS is a game that hardly anyone enjoyed due to its shallow gameplay and Min Min's boring playstyle is due to the gameplay in ARMS I would be over the moon if a first party character like Paper Mario got in, they just haven't picked good timing or a good first party franchise yet

It's just concerning now that all DLC 1st party characters have had a disappointing reaction so now it's almost like the next 1st party DLC will have the stigma about it. Especially with characters like Paper Mario or if they add a Sword/Shield Pokemon. I've already seen people complaining about "A third Mario" or "just another pokemon" despite them being very popular characters that will definitely be very unique, fans are already setting up for disappointment with the most likely 1st party characters.

She was definitely the best case scenario for a character from ARMS but the franchise is one game that wasn't very well received. Banjo has been around for a lot longer across multiple games and the first two titles are still beloved to this day To each their own though

I didnt mind banjo getting in the game but his gameplay felt like he should be in base roster. His moveset is really boring to me, along side min min. I liked every dlc but to me i find it super lackluster when it came to playing those characters. Every character other dlc character was fun and i always go back too. But this is coming from someone who doesnt like the competitiveness of this game and switched to casual.

Yeah I completely agree that Banjo and Min Min's movesets feel very base roster, I'd put Byleth there too. It sucks because they squeezed a ton of references into Banjo's moveset but it just doesn't flow well together as a moveset overall :( makes me sad because I love him 😭

We need a sonic bad guy playable. We need a megaman bad guy from outside the main megaman series.I think sigmas number on loyal lackey deserved to be in ultimate and he’s not in smash ultimate. He’s a pretty big character he’s really important for megaman x1 8 and then he shows up in a cut scene midway through x2 our x3 but he’s in shadow and you only see his silouet but then you she his full body in one of the last boss battle in x2 our x3. He also got his own separate story mode in the megaman x remake so obviously people like the character. If Disney had wanted to sue for Nintendo break cop right infigment for having his design be to close to one of the most popular Star Wars characters they would of tried to already. I’m surprised lucas film had not tried to take legal action against who ever made megaman x and designed the characters because the plagerized there property which they did not do probably because of the mecha suit the villian used made him different enough,

FYI the spirt argument no longer valid because bomber man got promoted from being just and assist trophy to a mee costumes. Which is basically a mee playable dressed up as the character that you have to buy separately.

If Sora was in smash then is gonna be a throwback from Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 battle between Sora vs. Cloud or Sora Vs. Sephiroth. I really hoping to see this happen on one of the last 3 remaining DLC characters left. but like people always gotta say Disney or we already got 3 square enix reps like this Ultimate any characters can happen unless they're deconfirmed.

In terms of an Arms rep she was the best option, but as an inclusion in general I disagree The only reason that they added an Arms rep is because it's a Nintendo IP, but the game was largely disliked and isn't played much in 2021. Min Min represents the Arms series too well with her repetitive and uninteractive playstyle

They're meh for different reasons imo Byleth was revealed at a bad time, coming at the end of a fighter pass full of hype third party reveals and being yet another fire emblem sword characters (I'm a big FE fan btw) Min Min was the best case scenario for a character pick from ARMS but ARMS's gameplay is rather shallow/boring to watch which is reflected in Min Min's gameplay in Smash

That comment was moreso about how mixed of reviews Last of Us 2 got (along with winning best company despite awful working conditions) and not about Nintendo lol. There were plenty of other good (not Nintendo) games that came out last year
