Learn my methodology of getting your music from the source to your desktop and into Serato as efficiently as possible to future proof any organization pitfalls.
This is more of a quick and easy import method shown. I go briefly into how I organize by genres and moods though so hopefully that helps your organization evolution some way. Let me know!
Great tip - Thank you for sharing! So now when you go play gigs and load your music onto a USB... Do you delete everything on it and then just drag and drop all of the songs from your music folder?
I really only export songs onto my USB via rekordbox for CDJ or standalone controller use (another vid needed for this) and no I do not wipe it clean ever, I simply just replace the folders on the USB with the new ones I have added to in my software.
if you do all music will it automatically not upload duplicates? Use case would be if you uploaded a single song that lives in that folder before dragging and dropping the entire folder?
If you have duplicates on the backend in your storage folder and then drop those into the All Music then you will have dups, you have to be very tidy on the backend and make sure you don't have dups.
Great video... Quick question. For years all my mp3 files from record pools are in my downloads folder. How can I transfer them safely into a dedicated music folder?
Great question, Jack. I would sort by file type in your downloads folder so they are all listed in a row for you for easy selection for migration to a dedicated music folder. Simply drag and drop into said folder. The issue you will run into is that whatever DVS you are running will no longer be able to locate those files so you will have to relocate them in the software or re add them to your "all music" folder within the DVS. There may be some reorganization to be done. I hope that helps!
No, Serato will not duplicate any of the songs and only bring in the new ones. However if you already have duplicates in your "All Music" folder then it will bring those in and you'll have those dups every time until you delete those from that folder.
When I drop songs in a folder in and organize them in numerical order and come out of serato and open it back up the order is always changed but not every folder does that how do I solve that problem
Serato will show organization in your folders by however you choose. You might want to sort it by date added one time and by BPM the next so it never stays on any particular sorting when you close and reopen. You'll have to get used to resorting as you wish every time you start fresh.
Nice idea man but the only huge problem with this method is if the crates on serato deleted or got corrupted (which happens one in a while) than you have to make them all from scrath and this sucks. its better that the crates of serato will be the mirror of your folders on your laptop. think about it
Valid concern, however I just can't justify the double organization and the added time it would take to keep that all in order on the backend like you're suggesting. To each their own though.
Aren’t deleted crates still recoverable when you drag the deleted crate file from your trash bin back into the “Serato” folder on your computer? I’ve done it quite a few times. (Considering you hadn’t wiped out your trash yet)
Sure if its taking up a lot or all of your available memory. Don't let it get to that point, you don't need EVERY song every made even though you might think you do. Also an external hard drive is another way to go if you're having memory issues but keep the best practice with ONE folder for your music on that external drive too. Good luck!
If you have your songs in a crate arranged in a specific order then you want to click the number column ("#") which is the second column from the left and they will then be sorted by how you want them to flow chronologically. You will also need to have your crate sorted this way to beginn to put them in any order. Hope that helps.
@@dicloudy1259 every time you open Serato you will have to sort your songs however you want, via the columns. If you arrange the songs in a specific order and sort them by the number column and they don't stay in the way you ordered them then yes it may be because you are keeping some of the songs in different storages.
Directory: Music>_Serato_> then take out "neworder.pref" file, (remove it from that folder but do not delete it.) that will make your crates alphabetical
