Setting boundaries always clarifies who respects you and should actually be in your life

Thanks for this. I've been a full-time unpaid carer for 7 years and it's really taken a toll on my mental health. I'd bet a lot of us carers are in the same situation

Me🙋🏾‍♀️. I’ve only been at “it” for a little over 4 years (but who’s counting). I can’t imagine this role for 7. I have a sibling who lives 10 minutes away who dropped their teenage kiddo off for me to take care of, as well. Said sibling does next to nothing to help care for our parent and doesn’t support his kiddo financially (or in any meaningful way), either. A boundary I recently set: have very very little to say to him. He has major mental health issues and is an alcoholic…there’s no having a conversation (unless I want to fight). I hope you’re able to set boundaries for yourself and pray you find supportive resources in your community. Please consider therapy, online support groups, or a church community for support. It’s not easy. You are truly a special person for being a caregiver for your loved one. I hope they appreciate how much you’re doing for them. Prayers and positive vibes being sent your way 💌

I am a caregiver as well. Been doing it for 2 years this month. It is starting to take a toll on me because I am taking care of my 97 year old Dad (who is still spicy and stubborn 😮‍💨), full time job and working my own business. My sister (🙏🏾) was handling Dad for about 7 years and I came up to take over as he became unable to do the normal things for himself. Thank goodness the VA does provide services for my Dad with his meals but that is about 20% of the load for my Dad. I am grateful for the 20% 🙏🏾. Many blessings to you both for the 7 and 4 years of caregiving. It is HARD! And trying to edge in a piece of self-care or enjoyment for yourself is hard at times.

The conditioned Giver role. Early training that your value lies in serving caregiver, or parentification. When you value is sufficient just because you exist, independent of serving or not serving others. How you were set up to be self- sacrificing/ self-destructive.

This was me. I experienced various kinds of rejection as a child and learned to feel value from doing things for people - often being used by people. It wasn't until I was in my 40s and 50s that I started learning that my value is not in doing favors and "helping" and I started saying "no". I had to say "no" to a friend just last week. People continue to try and put me into the role of being their "helper" but that's not who I am anymore.

This varies on what kind of person you are, but regardless the importance of it still implies. Espaccilyy now with social media, people just dont have a clue what a boundry is. And in all key areas of life, not just in relationships. If you're in a relationship and you cant implement boundaries because your partner will get hurt, cant respect it, dont understand it etc then you're in a wrong relationship. Like for example me personally i cannot give time/attention because it takes a lot to jeep my attention and i have a million other things going on that i cannot take part in a pissy party, if your partner craves attention best believe men get it somewhere else, because then they feel as if they have dome control over something and want to feel worthy- (because heck attention means worth right) 🤣 If you've already been wary with boundaries in your life span, it gets way worse as you get older because the selective meter ramps up to extra x100 selective. This is why i have not had a social media account in a long, long time- time is short and the amount of people that want to cross your boundaries is really long. Please go find someone else to fill your void. Mommy's got no time.

It’s not others that’s the issue. The issue is with me. I’m told I do to much, but I’ve lost sight of how to relax and have no personal boundaries. Just keep going like a Duracell bunny. But I’m getting ratty now, tired and fed up. Questioning the meaning of life. Am 63 and I’ve never learned this lesson.

I like that you mention swinging from one extreme to the other. I am a carer who is terrified of swinging to the withholding too much stuff of things and this struggle to find balance. Would appreciate a video with tips for someone like me. Thanks again for your awesome videos Edit:typo

I totally do fail with personal boundaries. I just simply have exactly no idea how to enforce them, so I rather not risk it... Now... How do I get past that? How do I set, communicate, and enforce my boundaries? Can you point me in some direction to fix this?
