Just got my machine out of the box. I appreciate your taking the time to document your efforts! Thank you!

There is actually an industrial version of this machine that has a post bed and uses industrial needles. I tried this with my patcher but it was hard to do. I now bought a cylinder arm and it breezes through the leather.

Ya ultimately I've switched to a class 4 Cobra and haven't looked back. CLSP is a good machine for learning to make things with a sewing machine, but is very limited in several ways

@@rogueapparatus6414 Yes, the CLSP can still do things no other machine can do. I use mine mostly for heavy fabric now.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge on this. I have to say I enjoy your cottage industry approach on making these sheaths. I use a bench top drill press to drill out my stitch lines and it works pretty well because I like a rustic look.

Thank you! I just upgraded my machine this week to a Cobra class 4, but I have endless respect for the china patcher. It still does things that my $4000 machine can't do

I appreciate the video. I've been watching a bunch of these because I've been having issues with my machine in the last little while and I learn something new from every video I watch. Something I did to mine that you might want to consider is filing down the shape edge on the end of the cover plate just around the needle hole. I find the work travels a little nicer over the arm and doesn't leave that noticeable impression on the leather.

I’m highly impressed that you have dialed in your machine to sew this thick of leather Please show and demo where your bobbin sits when crank is at 12:00, 3:00, and 9:00 o’clock. Thanks!!!! I look forward to seeing it. 👍

Nice work! Industrial sewing machines sometimes use silicone spray on the needle to make it slide up and down easier.

I've got one set up using 135 x 16 #22 needles with 138 and 207 bonded polyester. Haven't made anything yet but now I have a good idea of what these gadgets are capable of.

@rogueapparatus6414 2 года назад
@@davefarnsworth3020 ya only the older machines were made to work with a 23. I used a drill and a good quality bit to bore it all out a little, then I used a bigger bit to chamfer the top plate which really helps to catch the needle and keep the bottom from getting hung up on the hole

nice. I got a machine for Christmas from my mother-in-law. I am doing all the smoothing parts and such right now but noticed you are using some nice thick thread. Could you share what needle and thread combination you are using and what, if any modifications or considerations you had to take to use it? thank you for sharing your process.

From what I hear, you are using 138 on the top and looks like the same in the bobbin. It looks so big I thought it was 207. It really looks good. Do you always use the same thread in the bobbin that you use on top? In your opinion, do the threads need to be the same? I would like to use the largest thread I can on top, but something smaller in the bobbin so I can maximize my distance sewn before changing bobbins. Have you tried using 207/138 or 207/69? Or 138/69? I have some projects coming up that will require some long runs where changing bobbins is going to be a problem. The underside will not be seen so being a size or two smaller won't matter much. What do you think?

Thanks for the video. Help! I still can't get the bobbin thread to pull up. I sanded the whole bobbin shuttle down. I've watched several videos on how to thread the machine and bobbin. I finally figured that the bobbin thread goes behind the thread spring. Tried several tension options. The bobbin thread still won't pick up. If I hold the bobbin thread slightly then run a cycle through the machine, it brings thread on the other side of the needle. However, it still doesn't pick up the bobbin thread. Any ideas?
@rogueapparatus6414
@rogueapparatus6414 Год назад
Sounds like probably a timing issue. The bobbin carrier may be off by a few clocks or possibly the needle bar is out of adjustment

@@rogueapparatus6414 It worked. I lowered the needle to point I can feel the tip through that hole under the bobbin shuttle/casing. It picked up the bobbin thread. Thanks so much.

@rogueapparatus6414 Год назад
@@ARXER-hi1zs you always need to backstitch with machines because the lockstitch style can't hold without being back stitched and /or melted. With leather I do 3. Cloth I'd be inclined to do 5 or so back stitches
