#2 in a series of review videos on the new Seydel Symphony ALU...the harp is sold with two slides...a short throw (7mm) and a long throw (9mm), both have their advantages. The long throw pushes more air to the reeds so tone and dynamic (volume) control is maximized, which the short throw plays faster on accidentals.
(Correction...note that when Mr. Kettlewell starts playing the harp the short throw slide is in the instrument...not the long throw slide. This is the only demonstration of the short throw slide in the various Symphony videos, and if you compare the tone here to all the other videos-where the long throw slide is used...it appears that the manufacturer's statements that the long throw slide provides more saturated tone and control of volume are accurate.)
The harp has no mouthpiece screws visible on the top of the mouthpiece as they come up from the harp's bottom, and the slide spring is on the left of the harp, not the right...so scarring the slide will not happen. To remove the slide, just unscrew the right screw a bit and pull it down, slide slides out easily.
Parts are precisely fit at factory, and mouthpiece tension does not set those tolerances...screws just snug works fine.
Great innovations.
NOTE that Mr. Kettlewell is NOT sponsored by Seydel, nor is he an endorsed player for them. He calls 'em as he sees 'em, to help you get a feel for harps you may not have played before. These video reviews simply reflect his impressions, he is an independent voice in chromatic harmonica.
