Yeah I work with kids and I've learned to keep eating at lunch time despite how easily I lose my appetite when I can see all the food in a kid's open mouth. They chew loudly and chew while talking - sometimes they just chew with their mouths open because they can't be bothered to close them. If this aversion to chewing is so strong, he either shouldn't have a young kid or he's going to have to learn how to deal with it.

Recently a vet and well-known national dog show judge in Chicago Adam King, has been arrested on ch*ld p*rn charges. He posted in an online chat his plan to sexually assault his newborn child that he was having with his husband through surrogacy. Immediately made me think of Shane honestly. Call me a big meanie all you want but I’d rather a million infertile or gay couples learn to cope with the fact they can’t have their own biological newborn baby than even have even one child be sold to someone who has EVER said "babies are sexy" through surrogacy. Even one of these stories should have been enough to shut the whole surrogacy industry down...

@@dvoted2usadly the assault of children happens whether the child is a surrogate or not, inter family abuse is like the most common kind!! Denying a group of people access to parenthood because they MIGHT commit child abuse wont solve the issue and just places blame on the wrong communities, what about biological parents who abuse their children? How do we help prevent that? How can we stop that? Should they not be allowed children either? We need to be teaching warning signs early so children can report abuse in schools or to trusted adults, and we also need to be working on our CPS services and foster care services, which are not run well, staffed well or funded well!! Allllllll this just to say, you can’t just blame people who choose to have children through surrogacy for child abuse existing.

Whenever a couple consists of one person desperately wanting to get married and the other person is stalling even though they are engaged, I always feel skeptical about the relationship. Why ask someone to marry you if you're going to drag your feet? At that point it feels like the proposal was made in an attempt to shut the other partner up when it comes to the subject of marriage.

Yeah, I’m infertile and the fact that they have enough money for surrogacy, but I never will is absolutely maddening. And I was able to have one child before my uterus totally gave out on me and we ran out of money to spend on fertility treatments, but I have friends and family that never even got that. But of course Shane Dawson can be a parent. That figures.

Misophonia is extremely debilitating and can damage relationships if you don’t approach it correctly. That’s why I made sure to explain to my partner that it is a problem with ME, not with her, and I will usually go into another room when people eat, or I will wear headphones or do dishes or engage with something else. There’s no reason to make others feel like they’re doing something wrong. When you deal with how debilitating misophonia can be, it’s important to find ways to work around it, otherwise an irrational, boiling resentment can start to build against those I love the most. So that’s why a good pair of headphones can come in handy! Shane is a self absorbed cretin. Everyone else in his life shouldn’t be expected to forgo normal, important behaviors like eating just to accommodate Shane. He doesn’t have the emotional or mental fortitude to recognize this is a problem HE has and that he needs to find a healthy way to deal with it. Threatening to hit your partner in the head is disgusting. This will just make his partner feel guilty for doing normal things like eating, which is unacceptable.

It really is debilitating. I know I’ve hurt so many people’s feelings by not being able to be around them while they eat. I can definitely be immature about it sometimes because it causes such bad anxiety and anger that it becomes a fight or flight moment.

Sometimes chewing can bother me, it depends on what the person is eating or if there's background noise. But something that will infuriate me like a flip of a switch is sounds that have to do with silverware, bowls, plates and glasses. I think it's funny you mentioned doing the dishes because I despise doing the dishes. If for whatever reason I was picking up a plate from the sink to wash then put in the dishwasher and I wasn't careful enough (and trust me that's something else that's frustrating about doing the dishes is having to feel like I need to be so careful to not hear that awful noise instead of just being able to get it done.. ugh) and it made the stuff below it make noise.. oh my fucking god.. I've had to FIGHT to not just wholeheartedly throw the plate back into the sink or throw it on the floor. I don't know why.. and it's *always* been this way for me. And guess what my chore was at home all my life that my narcisstic mom would lose her shit if I didn't do it every single day and clean up all her shit.. The dishes.. I was SO thankful when I finally got a CD player and was able to listen to music to not only avoid sudden sparks of anger but also helping me deal with what I think is adhd and keeping focus on what I was trying to get done. But sometimes my mom would get in fights with me over listening to music while doing the dishes "You're not gonna be able to listen to music when you get a job!!" and I'd be like "But this isn't a job, I'm not getting paid for it" ugh

I'm so sorry to hear. My Mum was told she couldn't have children and was on her way to have a cyst removed, but it turns out I was that cyst lol. She then had my brother after but was told that we where both miracles and it wouldn't happen again, so she had a hysterectomy. @@kaeleyyoutube I will eat my skirt if Shane becomes a good parent, but if he puts that on RU-vid he will have to be an entirely different person. He has an incredible number of problematic behaviors that he needs to do a 180 on. For example the self deprecation, the making fun of his size and weight, the severe social anxiety (Yes people can have anxiety and be parents, but Shane was apologizing for his fiancé ordering food ffs) the complete lack of responsibility for his past behaviors, not to mention a massive conspiracy theorist. I'm currently in a therapy group where we're unlearning many of the things Shane exhibits in his videos and if that is just a 'persona' for content, then he thinks its okay to broadcast that to his young and impressionable audience, which to me is not an extremely admirable trait in a parent You're allowed to be a flawed influencer, but Shane has shown no indication that he wants to, or intends to improve or change problem behaviors he has acknowledged are problems

Shane comes across as that kind of guy who's too scared to break up with someone so he just gradually becomes a worse and worse person until the other party does the breaking up for him. Unfortunately Ryland either still, somehow, has the rose colored glasses on, is too dependent on Shane's money to leave, or knows Shane's audience will attack him relentlessly if he ever dares to break up with him. I don't like Ryland, I never really have, but I don't know how this relationship could ever end well for him.

Shane needs to understand that while there’s no problem with him having misophonia and telling his Fiancé about it, there is a problem with not dealing with it like an adult. If you don’t want to hear him chewing, leave the car while he’s eating or don’t do somewhere with him when you know he’s gonna eat. What my sister does to deal with it is avoid people she knows are particularly triggering if possible. Like, she’ll sit away from the family if she can so she doesn’t hear us chewing. And that’s fine. But don’t pretend like you’re the biggest victim ever when there is an easy out.

Actually, ryland has spoken about how Shane’s misophonia has gotten worse since he got covid. I have had the same experience. While I don’t support Shane’s choices, I think it’s very wrong to invalidate his experience with this. I understand that people find it annoying how he deals with his misophonia but many people do not understand the severity of having it. Most people who have misophonia do feel like self harming or harming others when hearing trigger noises. Shane has more than enough money to deal with his problem and it’s an issue that he isn’t. However, we can cannot invalidate or say he is “faking”. It’s wrong.

I have noticed that my misophonia gets a lot harder for me to handle day to day when I am stressed or tired. Sometimes I don’t notice things at all, sometimes I do but can handle it with only a little discomfort, and sometimes I literally can’t ignore it and have to remove myself from the situation. I think I also notice it more with the people that I am closest to- maybe just because of the amount of time I spend with them.

Honestly I don't know how they're still together if even that level of communication is too hard. I have injured myself and others due to my reactions, so I know to avoid certain people and certain situations to avoid what I need to, just like I do with allergies. And if that means wearing a mask or headphones to tell someone that I'm unable to be around them due to certain sounds or smells, I'll do that. If that means using plastic dishes or cutlery to reduce noise, my partner is fine with that and we have that discussion. We've already talked about not having glasses to clank when we get married because of how much of a trigger that is for me. If you're not willing to have that conversation, then how is that relationship going to last?

4:25 to be fair, misophonia tends to flare up far more with the people you're closest to. It's a very context-heavy disorder. Like, a stranger can be chewing loudly, and you won't have the same reflexive reaction to it that you'd have if it was your husband or wife. To continue being fair though, Shane's hoodie-touting, attention-grabbing singing is in no way reflective of the irrational, reflexive spasms of rage that are caused when misophonia is triggered. It usually manifests itself first in a burst of internalised fury, then in the sufferer being deeply embarrassed, apologetic, and removing themselves from the trigger as discreetly as possible. We don't engage in the performative, attention-seeking nonsense that Shane does. Source: a misophonia sufferer for whom the greatest invention of the past 50 years has been wireless headphones. Before that innovation, I quite literally could not have sustained a meaningful romantic relationship, because partners snoring triggered me beyond belief. Now, I can sleep through it with the help of some wireless waterfalls. As I say, those of us who suffer from it don't tend to make a narcissistic song and dance about it. We awkwardly take the steps necessary to mitigate against it, while also feeling faintly ashamed of the fact that something so normal has driven us to irrational spasms of rage.

My best friend and roommate has misophonia. It was a little rough in the beginning but she calmly and politely explained it to me, then we figured out what to do to make sure she was okay. The difference here is that Shane is 1) just wanting to be an asshole and 2) not making any effort to work with Ryland about the problem. She also never threatened me with physical violence but we’re also mature adults who talk things through.

I think this is true with any hypersensitivities. If I were to guess it's because people who experience issues like this often feel they are not being understood or taken seriously. People will just act like you're choosing to be whiny. A stranger isn't aware that you are affected negatively by it, but someone close to you is, so it adds a psychological layer of someone knowing and just not caring. I have major issues with smell, it's linked to autism and it sucks trying to explain to people that it's worse than they imagine. A lot of smells make me physically ill and trigger migraines. Definitely more upsetting when my bf won't even warn me so I can close my door!

He would have at some point had an issue with somebody else in his past. Like I had significant issues with my parents and my brother and how they were doing younger and now it's typically with romantic partners because they're the people that I'm eating around the most. But Shane himself is slovenly and disgusting all the time to the point where as someone who's misophonia to me if I were to eat like that I would trigger myself and almost every other misophonius I've heard that I personally know agrees with that. Weird that his misophonia is something that he has suffered for so long but only since ryland has he become such a gigantic gaping asshole about it. Not to say that I don't think that it can be really difficult for all of us because it absolutely can BUT Shane's handling of it and the fact that he only deals in politely with ryland and not anyone else in his life who is a certain way tells me that he's playing it up SIGNIFICANTLY.

actually, that doesnt really change it. misophonia varies depending on who it is related to. e.g. usually it is triggered more by the person/people youre closest to (like...a fiancee). so it is possible for someone who has it to be able to listen to strangers chew or people theyre not as close with. there are lots of people in the replies with misophonia educating on it. do I think he has it? probably not. but is it possible for people with misophonia to listen to strangers/people theyre not as close with eat without getting overwhelmed? yes. it does actually add up

As a gestational surrogate (just tote the baby, no genetic ties), who carried twins for a set of amazing dads back in 2020, I don’t think I could be one for them. Surrogates, who are in it to truly help create a well deserving family and not for the money, may see their relationship as dysfunctional. I would also like to add that to do surrogacy, both the surrogate and her spouse as well as the intended parents (Shane and Ryland) have to all have a psych evaluation before signing contracts. I think everyone deserves to have a family, but I’m not sure if Shane is actually ready for the commitment of a child, since it looks like him and Ryland are still trying to figure out their relationship, to add a child into the mix isn’t a fix. I think ryland would be a great dad tho. Also surrogacy isn’t if the faintest of heart either.

@@mirellalastar yeah I knew the risks going into it but it was the most rewarding thing I have ever done. Surrogacy isn’t for everyone and that’s okay. It wasn’t too risky to do, I had to get cleared medically which was a vigorous background into my medical and psych history to even be a candidate. I am blessed enough to carry a child, many people can’t, so my husband and I decided to help another family be able to experience the joys of parenthood, who otherwise wouldn’t. Adoption isn’t always promised and it should never be a cop out for infertile couples. Anyways, adoption for same sex couples is too difficult, especially around the world. The dads I helped were from the Netherlands, they looked into adoption, they were only able to adopt special needs kids. We got super close and still keep in touch. The twins are now 2 and they were one of the first people to know about my current pregnancy (my 2nd own biological child). They are like my brothers now and their babies are like my niece and nephew, so totally worth it 100% in my book.

I have fairly severe misophonia, and also would struggle to tolerate being in a car with somebody eating, I find enclosed spaces to be worse with that...BUT its a bummer to see an opportunity to demonstrate healthy communication and support around that. Ive had a lot of dismissive, rude reactions to telling new people I have this and Shane is not helping... Everyones Misophonia is super different because it is a neurological auditory processing problem, so some of the tools I have developed to cope and not have it impact social and romantic relationships would not work for others buuuuut if you have a loved one w/ miso: Having misophonia is not an excuse to yell, or act in a controlling manner. Talk at a time when they are not hearing the trigger noise about ways to avoid and handle those situations. Give them an opportunity to excuse themselves from situations where the sound might occur without making it super weird and awkward. for example " hey Im about to eat this do you want to turn on the radio? roll the window down?" Shane is demonstrating a really shitty coping mechanism and setting a shitty standard there. No surprises lol

I have a few triggers, but my mum or dad eating or drinking are BY FAR the worst triggers for me. Sometimes my friends apologises about chewing food around me, but it honestly never bothers me. It’s only the people I eat with constantly

thank you! i don’t get it nearly as much from eating (I do sometimes depending on the food) but rather repetitive sounds or high pitched scraping noises and such. I’ve had to get permission to noise cancel during tests in order to properly focus to is hurts to see that some people don’t take it seriously and see that we exist

yes i love this bc the other side of the coin ("well i have it and i've never breathed a word of it to anyone in the world, it is a secret that shall follow me to the grave, i would never DARE speak up for myself") is also bad. like, it's something that deserves some measure of compassion and accommodation, especially from loved ones. just like people can't help but chew, people with misophonia can't help but be triggered by the sound. and if you're someone who experiences misophonia you deserve to advocate for yourself, you deserve to be in relationships where the other party shows you compassion and understanding. noble suffering in silence is unnecessary and unsustainable in the long term

I understand why ppl do that, it can feel shameful, but advocating for yourself fairly in a relationship is crucial. once you are prioritizing their comfort over yours on that level, you introduce a unhealthy standard for yourself imo..If my partner was always wearing a perfume I was allergic to, Id ask them not to wear it when we were together.People have as much control over misophonia as their allergies, and somebody who cares will accomodate for that or meet you halfway at least.

One thing I want to add/say about the being sensitive to chewing part is that for autistic people (like me) certain sounds/noises, especially chewing/gulping/etc.., can sometimes actually be not only mentally but also physically painful to hear/listen to. Now obviously was Shane being a little dramatic/kinda annoying? 100% yes. But just remember not everyone who reacts to certain noises like that r just being “dramatic” or “seeking attention”, some of us literally can’t handle or stand certain noises. Like I literally can’t have dinner with my family or friends because im sensitive to those types of noises, and having Tourette’s in the mix doesn’t help either lol. They cause me to tick, and most of the time my ticks are my hitting myself, twitching my head back rapidly, and it’s just very uncomfortable and sometimes hurts Also I’m not a medical professional by any means, but I’d say I’m good at finding other autistic people and I personally don’t believe Shane has autism, I do think and agree he was just being annoying

I don't have autism, but I do have misophonia and it actually makes my skin and teeth hurt and my adrenaline goes way way up. (It also makes my Tourettes tics flare up really bad too! Cool to know that's not abnormal!) He may have misophonia, but I agree the way he handled it is absolutely immature and obnoxious. My goodness I can't even imagine behaving like that.

Thank you for this episode of clip breakdown! Back when I used to watch Shane’s vids I was always annoyed by his “oooh I’m a widdle baby” stick. It was so noticeable when he would switch between that and his actual personality. And I totally agree, Shane has always treated Ryland this terribly. It made me legitimately mad to see the way he used to put him and his other “friends” down so cruelly in front of the whole internet. If I was in Ryland’s position I would’ve broken up with him years ago but then again I don’t have a wealthy lifestyle to uphold so...

Agreed. It makes sense to me why they have to have such large houses because they don’t seem to enjoy or thrive in each other’s company. But, basing your relationship working on something material and superficial like that is dangerous…Personally, I would love to see them try a break (even just privately, or explained away as Shane working on a horror film project or education elsewhere or something). Misophonia can be a sensitivity to any noises (not only chewing). I have it and honestly when you're an adult, if you try and take care of it, it's manageable, and you can hang out with your partner without being dramatically yelling on video.
