SHAQ IS A MARKETING GENIUS [FIVE GUYS] 

It’s no secret that more often than not, athletes experience post-career money problems. In the NBA, a whopping 60% of players go broke within 5 years of leaving the sport. That means most guys that play the game don’t have money when they leave. Obviously, a lot of it is due to poor financial decisions whether that’s spending or saving, and you also have to think about how many leeches come when somebody makes it big. Unfortunately, some players just don’t have the forseight to be able to persevere through that…
One major exception to that is none other than Shaquille O’neal. Since retiring in 2011, Shaq Diesel has been taking that stereotype and absolutely destroying it. After earning nearly $300 million during his 19 year career, he actually makes more now than the $30 million salary he earned while playing in the league.
How did he do it? He built an impressive business empire, investing in everything from fast food restaurants to the latest technology, of course to go along with his many endorsements.
At one point, Shaq owned 155 five guys restaurants, which is equivalent to 10% of the company’s entire franchise portfolio. His other purchases include 17 auntie annie’s, one Krispy Kreme in ATL, and even a movie theater in his hometown of Newark, NJ. By the way, Shaq is from NJ. Fun fact.
Along with all that, he owns a Big Chicken restaurant in Vegas, not to mention a “Shaquille’s burger place” in LA
More recently, he joined the board of directors at Papa John’s, getting paid over 8 million dollars to become the brand ambassador
Let’s not get it twisted now - Shaq also has investments outside of the food industry. He reportedly owns 40 24-hour fitness gyms and 150 car washes, according to The Hustle…
In terms of stock investments, he’s gotten some pretty great returns from Google, although he shied away from giving details on that. Either he’s capping, or he just doesn’t want to make us feel bad. We all know he’s an NBA analyst on TNT with Ernie, Kenny, and Chuck, but did you also know he’s a minority owner of the Sacramento Kings?
Oh, and he has his own branded products, too - Shaq suits, Shaq sneakers, a Shaq jewelry line, and even his own children’s books called ‘Little Shaq’. Kinda funny actually.
I haven’t even listed all the things he’s invested in or somehow apart of, but I think you get the picture.
My favorite thing about Shaq besides his funny personality and great investment skills is the fact that he’s also very charitable… whether he’s paying for college, or buying a random guy’s wedding ring full price in the store, his positive outlook on life and willingness to help others is undeniable.
