This video is the second in its series developed by the Bruyère Deprescribing Research Team to model shared decision-making conversations about medication use in long-term care. In this video, you will see a conversation between Ranbi and Dr. Dodds about his wife Prada. Prada Balamurali is an 84-year-old woman who has been living in a LTC home for the past year. She is living with moderate-severe Alzheimer’s disease dementia. Her husband, Ranbi Balamurali continues to live at their family home and visits his wife every other day. He is meeting with Dr. Dodds, the physician at the long-term care home who is caring for Prada, for her annual care conference.
The goal of shared decision-making is to improve the quality of decisions and strategies for care planning and medication use. Clinical discussions in these videos are presented for instruction purposes only. Conversations and courses of treatment for specific patients may vary from the example provided.
