I purchased an inexpensive gaiwan and now I know why there is such a cost difference! I'm so glad I started with the good ones or I would have given up on this way of brewing tea. In this video I share the features to look for in a good Gaiwan and, if you have gotten a bad one, do not give up because of the product, find a good one so you can enjoy the hobby.

That’s what I call a “Gaiwannabe”! Surprisingly easy to run across,eBay is one of those places where a good deal often ends up a bad deal. May I reccomend a ‘flute brewer’? I think you might enjoy one very much,if you want a glass vessel. Do a review video if you end up getting one!

I’ve never heard of a flute brewer. Or I have and didn’t know the name. I’ll look for it. Currently I’m mostly using a small glass teapot with a basket. My Gaiwan has a crack on the edge. Too poor to buy another good one right now.

This was very informative! I have a clear glass gaiwan from Harney anf Sons and it has worked very well for me

Thank you for this video. I haven’t purchased a Gaiwan yet, but I’ve noticed that some porcelain ones come with a lid thats a bit rough around the edges and unglazed. Have you experienced that with your (non-glass) Gaiwans? Im wondering if that’s just how they’re normally made.

I have not noticed that roughness but I’ve only bought two porcelain. First one broke and second is now chipped. So I’ll need to get a third soon. I guess I did well the first two times.

I'm going to put something on top (inside) of something else and say it's taller..... Milligrams? Milliliters..... You may want to look at your hand position when holding. Otherwise interesting.

Lol Yes I realized after I filmed that I said grams instead of liters. I just knew someone would catch that! Silly me. If they were the same size they shouldn’t fit inside each other. But the point is that they are the same size but different shapes and one shape does not work and the other does. But I did measure liquid by pouring from one to another and they are same 150 ml.
