This is a great video! Wanted to point out one more feature in the digital camera control mode - for the Runcam Nano HD, if you hold the right stick to the right position, the camera will cycle between different video profiles. This is great, for instance, on cloudy days - there is a cloudy profile that makes the image look a bit better.

OMG! I just watched this video, and am so intimidated! I've had SB since the VTX first came out and installed it on a 115mm drone.I've been flying it for months, and it's great, but, I haven't done any flashing, firmware updating, nada, zip, zero. I haven't even flashed the BF OSD yet. I keep thinking, I have a flyable drone, if I screw with it, I could make it unflyable, so I don't. This video doesn't relieve my anxiety, it only heightens it.lol I know I will have to do some, or all of this sooner rather than later, but there's no comfort watching this. I will probably watch this at least 5 times, before I will start updating firmware. Thanks JB, for your very informative but intimidating videos.lol. PS. to help push me into this flashing and firmware updating, I actually got one of the first batch of Mobula7HDzero/Elrs whoop, and if that doesn't force me, I don't know what will. Have been looking for any videos on that quad on your channel, and haven't seen any yet. Are you planning on reviewing that quad? Thanks again for your content.

@@MT-xy7fw I've flown with a few DJI pilots using the system and haven't had anything bad happen, yet. It's always a risk, because DJI blasts the public channel first and then goes to the channel it is set to, from what I understand. I just keep my distance, and it often works out that we take turns flying anyway.

I just finished setting up all the electronics and BF for my SharkByte system that I bought about a century ago (SharkByte VRX add-on and TX5R.1 VTX) Flashing firmware now, and I can't thank you enough for this video. SmartAudio working. OSD Canvas mode working. I'll be going out to maiden the new old drone in just a little bit after the FW updates are completed.

Everything went great on the first flight. I swapped out the guts from a v1 Roma F5 analog to a v2 Roma F5 DJI frame, because my TX5R.1 just wouldn't fit inside the analog frame. Total mass has increased by about 45g, and I could feel it. Visibility was massively improved at 25mw with SharkByte/HDzero compared to 400mw on the Diatone VTX. Flew about a football field away in front of me and had no noticeable signal breakup. Same distance behind me and on the other side of a building and trees had pretty significant video noise. Far better than expected at 25mw

Bet it can read larger than 32gb cards just fine, you just need to use a program that will format large cards in fat32 I stead of NTFS. The radiomaster tx16s has 32gb listed as Max SD card capacity but larger cards work if formatted in the right file system and my tx16s has a 64gb and is also the case with my cars dash cam. The 64gb is stated because its officially the Max size with a fat32 file system.

i couldnt make up my mind for months between the two i liked dji but felt a sell out for it as ive always had fatshark goggles ect so i ended up with both systerms i use dji for most stuff and sharkbyte for my raceing stuff and small builds so they both have their place in our great hobby and i hope always will great video joshua

Funny enough I just bought a sharkbyte receiver on sale… I couldn’t turn down $200 total cost to try a digital system as my goggles already had hdmi. Also I used a 64gb sd card on the google module, I just had to format it in the module first, then it worked for me anyway.

I used a 64gb card. It wasn't reading it at first then I formatted the card inside the receiver module and it worked after.

What would actually be cool is to use the "smart audio" input to tell the VTX about the link quality. So it can increase and decrease power, it will be much more power efficient in close areas and if you need more penetration it would increase power. I guess DJI does that ?

Joshua, I followed this video several months ago when I installed the Sharkbyte system. Everything worked perfectly. Today I power up the quad and I have no OSD. Any thoughts? Watched again the video just now but still no OSD shows up. It was perfect a couple of months ago. I've made no changes to anything. OSD disappeared. All I see is a VLQ8 next to the antennas status bars.

Great video, and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! This has helped me build my first SB quad. However, I'm having lots of issues accessing the VTX menu using my TX16s. BF OSD and canvas mode worked just fine, but the menu doesn't pull up when I move my sticks from center to bottom left/right. Using the most up-to-date FW and HDZero Micro cam. Anyone else having this issue?

SO. In my particular case, I had my camera wired to the SA pad on my FC. Even though SA is not programmed through BF, it ended up not working on that UART. I soldered the VTX to a different UART and followed the steps as normal and BAM, now the VTX menu WORKS!

No it's not possible. The DJI Air Unit does not transmit audio. The DJI FPV drone does but that's a different situation.

If you have a larger than 32 gig card that does not work, go format it with a 32 gig partition and a second spare partition instead. Most likely the goggles will read it in that case and you still have remaining space to use for other stuff.

Still got some issues with my tx5s.1 - i have osd, good picture but can't reach the vtx via stick control. Did almost everything but just a ?:??? on my osd regarding channel and power output on my vtx. anyone got an idea whats wrong?

If you power up a video transmitter without an antenna, what may happen? For example on my 1s-2s microdrone would it have the same effect as a 4s-6s video transmitter being powered without a antenna?

Great video, thanks. I managed to put my system in 50fps mode and it stopped transmitting. I randomly fiddled with the joystick that came with my 5.1s and managed to reset my camera back to default so it can be picked up by the receiver. Not content with it working properly I managed to get my camera back to 50fps mode and lost a receiving image again. I am not able to get the image back no matter what I try, even a reflash has not fixed things. Do you know if the bf cli contains some kind of framerate reset option?

The location of the OSD elements just depends where you put them in the betaflight configurator. The reason they are off the side of my screen is because I am using 4:3 aspect ratio. So I have black bars at the side of my screen. Just move them to the side in betaflight and that's where they will be.

When you setup the MSP in the config tab, the IRC tramp is still active for another UART. Shouldn’t that be turned off too?

You are correct that I'm not using IRC Tramp on this build, and it could be turned off to free up the UART for some other purpose. But it won't harm anything if it's left on.

The Shark Byte manual for the TX5R.1 is incorrect concerning the SmartAudio setup. vtxtable powervalues need to be "1 2 3". The values "0 1 2" are incorrect !

I know Windows can open zip files but its handling is really clunky and I vastly prefer a dedicated zip file manager.

Your FC really can't be fully bricked from this. If you screwed up the config, use the bootloader button to put it into DFU mode and re-flash it.

@@JoshuaBardwell correct it’s not fully bricked. It’s a radix2 so I had to reinstall the firmware fresh. However this isn’t the first time setting up HDZero, you can probably tell cause I call it HDZero. However I’m not Exactly sure how to proceed at this point for canvas mode. This is not the only radix board I’ve setup HDZero on so I’m at a total loss. I know I have all the correct uarts. Just not sure what could have caused that to happen? Thank you for your prompt response to such an old video. Amazing man. And I tell everyone so get mad or say it back. I love you brother. Thank you for everything you do for the community.

My build, I've had the OSD freeze on me. I need to disarm and arm the quad to fix it, happened maybe 4 times (that I've noticed) with less than 20 packs. Luckily I've got my controller configured to read out battery voltage from 3.7v per cell, so I can go without on-screen battery voltage, but has anyone else experienced this?

FW bug. Use OSD disable mode on an aux switch to reset during flight.

Make sure your stick endpoints are correct as yaw right can sometimes not trigger if the endpoint is too low.

There is a way to bring it back. It has the directions in the manual. There is some kind of switch on the bottom or back of the vrx that you need to use and boot it up then move the switch back after.

Are the small perforated holes with copper traces on the TX5S.1 attaching the screw holes meant to be soldered making the edges more difficult to break off?

@@Alex-kb4ve That doesn't answer my question at all. I'm aware its to make them easier to break-off. But if they were not also to solder then why include copper traces? I DON't want the edge to break off so I soldered the holes. I guess I'll be letting YOU know if it works.

@@nolandfpv never ever seen anyone solder those holes in any vtx with breakable holes . I highly doubt it would break unless something really nails it in a crash.

@@divingfalconfpv4602 the edges actually will break fairly easy - hench soldering. Since, I soldered the holes the board is still intact after a crash. Ill know for sure after a few more crashes. Ill also write Fatshark for an offical response.

Mapping and connecting non-cooperating ESC and FC's with "make your own plug" options are the worst. The pin sets rarely set properly and are very fidgety, and take forever especially if you have poor eyesight. I always think about 1/2 way through the process - I'd rather solder single ESC's. I'm hard-headed and don't learn easily. :/
