I was issued a challenge by a company called Chef's Foundry. They manufacture ceramic kitchen knives that they claim are sharp enough to shave with. They wanted me to see if I could shave off my beard and shave my bald head with their knives.
Well, while the knives weren't necessarily as sharp as true straight razors, they definitely are sharp enough to reduce down your beard quite well. The biggest challenge I had was finding a suitable angle with which I could shave. Kitchen knives and razors are ground to very different bevels or edges, which makes the kitchen knives more durable for when they come in contact with bones or other hard things you'll cut in while cooking. This made it exceptionally difficult for me to get the closest shave possible, but I was able to get closer than I'd ever thought I would - all without shedding blood, which is pretty remarkable.
I'm very impressed with these knives and would definitely recommend picking some up if you're interested. The set can be found here: chefsfoundry.c...
