I was 18 years old when this song came out in 1998 and completely blew my mind. I'm 43 now and every once in a while, a find myself searching for a piece of my youth on RU-vid. Every time I listen this song gives me the feeling that is the first time i'm listening it, not sure why but it's an amazing feeling.
I love this comment. I am a few years younger (not much) and do the same. Music brings me back to a place and time that is good/bad/ugly, in regards to my youth. Can remember exactly what you were doing, how you felt, etc. when you first heard a song. Great stuff. I completely get this sentiment. I often go through the mid to late 90s rabbit hole and relive good memories.
one time YEARS ago, when this came out, I was in a car on the way to band practice in Amsterdam when this came on, it was raining...we turned it up, he sang to my soul. I hadn't heard it for ages when it was on the radio today at work. I almost cried, so beautiful.
I thought about it for so long. Would rock my twins to this song. So many good tearful memories that was in 2000. Resurrected it self to me when I need the words again.song is haunting and healing. Thanks to the music genius who stole our hearts
The first time I heard this song was the day my dad died.driving to go to him. After for many years it came on when ever I was having a bad or scary time. Amazing song.
I was in a middle school bus, heading to a new school where i was on the only of my race. Doesn't matter which one. But this song helped. So glad I found it again, 20 something years later.
This came out not too long after I decided to make SoCal my home. It's such a lovely song. After a bad day it feels like a friend, reminding me it was the right choice. Thank you!
Back in 1998 I lived in Atlanta and dated a girl named Arlene who knew Shawn. I met him a few times and would go see him at a little club called Eddie’s Attic. He was amazing. When my teenage daughter came to visit from New Jersey I took her to see him. It was the week before Lullaby broke and she was so stoked to tell her friends she saw him. I’d love to see him if he comes to Tampa. I know he’ll be in Miami in February so I may have to take the trip.
I saw Shawn play at a little bar in Dahlonega Ga. It was called Beauregards. When he was still in college. Back when it was NGC. Now named the University of North Georgia. He’s still an awesome musician.
Damn this brings me back. This is one of those songs that was EVERYWHERE when it came out and had a cool vibe and riff that has clearly stuck with me. Thanks for the throwback!
Shawn dieser ultracoolen Socke ist über die Jahre nichts an seiner Stimme flöten gegangen, mega... Immer noch Gänsehaut der Song, viel zu lange nicht gehört...
I don‘t know how many times I gave my Soul’s Core CD as a present to friends of mine after playing it to them while on the road home from some gig … all my friends were delighted by the storytelling and the heartwarming mood of every song. Whenever I find one of the CDs by chance in any record store for a nice price I take it home with me. It always feels like a rescue … and it soon after finds a new home with a newborn Shawn Mullins fan. Thank you for your music, dude 🙏
I have done the same thing 4-5 times over the years and Everytime I have seen Souls Core in an op Shop,I feel a little pity for whoever let it go..Mullins is a REAL songwriter,Top shelf..
This Is My story I used to drive about 40 people to work from bridgeton to burlington new jersey One afternoon Where 295 sourh gets toguether with rt 42 and follow rt 55 I will never forget the moment this song Came.out on the radio I was in love
Yet another song about a powerful situation, where a person in a bar, singing, feels like they cannot leave the FIRST place they ever played, cannot make it big
Just me….. my favorite IPA….. and wonderful Legacy Audio Speakers paired to Krell electronics ….. and Saturday Night….. no work tomorrow….. just a tad messed up…. Shawn never sounded better!!! Thanks EOP for the upload! ❤️🌻🌈🤟🏽
I am much younger than most of yall. But my dad would play this song all the time when i was a toddler. For some reason it brings back scary memories but in haunting real way shows how big the world seemed back then. This song tops them all for Nostalgia
Loved this song since I first heard it! But to hear the story behind it and to listen to you unplugged is so much more! What a talent! Incredible song from the harmonics to the open tuning and chord progression. Then to add your Falsetto used so perfectly!....too many over use theirs. I sing and play...but wasn't blessed with your gift! All the best from Canada!
Damn. You sound so much better back in the day when I was living in SF. Yours is a voice that’s gets so much better with time. Your praying so f’g brilliant.
😢I remember seeing my daughter when we came dragging our tails from France, it is a good memory because everything was alright in the long run. This helps to bring back those days and it feels right!
Shawn Mullins is a "one-hit-wonder" as far as I know. But he is an EXCELLENT artist. While this may be his only major hit, it is a masterpiece! I always use this song as an example when I complain how modern "artists" can simply not write anything remotely called music or lyrics like this song anymore. How did we get from the era where songs like this were written to where we are today with the crap that that flows out of our radio speakers like crap from a sewer...
Loved this song when you were young and cool. Sing the song that made the song great. Not a fan of you changing it up. I still enjoy hearing it, but sing it like you are still cool. You singing it this way seems like your not cool. You are def cool. Just seems like the pep and coolness is gone. Still love the song
