Men like this who can't handle rejection are so sick and scary. It reminds me of one case where a woman at a bar politely turns down this guy who comes onto her, so he proceeds to go get his gun and shoots her while she was walking home.. like wtf cut your losses and move on!

I lived in this same area of Orlando and remember this all going down, day by day wondering what happened to her. It was terrifying. I haven't seen any of the true crime youtubers I watch cover it yet. Thank you for doing this story!

Not one has covered it only seen news clips, but I’m glad it was Zara who did it! This case can happen to literally anybody ! Just like the one with the yt girl who was running from the security guard and he entered using a code he had and x her out ! She got way more coverage on RU-vid and the news. This case was mainly known from social media post smh! This case needs to be known bc it shows that no one is safe even ppl who work around you! Like this man wasn’t ugl* or anything it’s sickening he could’ve found another girl! I’m honestly glad he a gone ppl get less time in jail anyway he unalived himself in the worse way ever! Glad he did it I’m sorry!!!

When we rented for the winter it was through a real estate agency and they would show up unannounced and just walk in with the key all the time. One time I was wearing nothing but a robe and a plastic bag on my head from dying my hair. But you would just be living there going about your everyday life and suddenly there was a handful of strangers right next to you in your house. They were also supposed to call ahead of time and give us notice but they never did. It was also very obvious that people live there because we all had our own cars.

Being apart of the community, knowing her dad and step mother on top of being there for carnival, I can attest to the sad vibe that surrounded the community around this time. There was a beautiful truck (what we use to play music during carnival) dedicated to her! Her uncle broke multiple “carnival rules” in order to give her the proper tribute that she deserved during one of her favorite times.. I still have pictures and videos of the truck and the tribute!!! Her birthday just passed as well! S.I.P 🕊️🕊️

I graduated during Covid! It was such a weird experience, graduation delayed and all the houses we lived in were just stuck in a limbo of not doing anything. P.S I don't think I've heard of this case before I'm looking forward to hear her story

So heartbreaking. Unsafe where she should've been the most safe. I live in Wisconsin, and it is illegal for anyone to enter an apartment unit without notice unless it's an emergency (water leaks, fires, and such). However, they don't always follow those laws. My last apartment, I had two different maintenance guys enter my apartment (one twice and one once) unannounced. One of the times I was changing in my bathroom and living alone I never closed doors so thank goodness I put a draft stopperl in front of the door to keep the draft out because it was winter. That slowed him down from getting in before I could get dressed quick. Another time I was sleeping in from having a late night and I slept in just a tshirt and underwear so again a strange man walking in when I wasn't fully clothed. The last time I was at work but by this point I got myself a security camera and when it buzzed my phone saying it senses motion I checked it right away. It has the option to speak through my phone to it so I said "what the hell are you doing on my home?" And he left real quick only to call and ask the next day if he could come and check my fire extinguisher. I moved out of that place soon after, I didn't feel comfortable there anymore.

Landlord is required to give 24 hr notice in Montana. Recently I had one that entered property, broke and disposed of my property and verbally attacked me. The cops told me just to move and I had no protection. It was the end of 10 months of living in fear after 10 years of previous landlord being the best I'd ever worked with.

As women we are always a target and it’s honestly sad. This was also a fear of mine when I first moved alone. As a little girl I remember my Aunts best friend being raped and murdered by the maintenance worker at her apartment complex she was a hairdresser and when she didn’t show up to work everyone knew something was wrong I was only 7 at the time and I remember that was the first time I realized how scary the world was for us. You can tell Maya was loved the way her family pretty much solved her disappearance and murder right away that night they knew smh so sad RIP Maya 😇 😢

I think the notice before maintenance workers come in varies state to state. When I lived in Virginia, I was always given several days' notice, but when I lived in Arizona, they would just show up. I would get notice in Arizona if they were going to do an inspection, but anything else they'd just randomly come by. I've never heard this case before - thank you so much for covering it!

When I lived in an apartment the maintance guy went into my apartment SEVERAL times without notifying me. The only reason I noticed was because a door would be open or cabinet or something would be moved and I'd go to the office like um did someone come into my place? And they would actually say oh YA so so and had to fix a pipe under your sink or we were checking your ac or blah blah blah and I was like wtffff 😱

I live in TN but when I was living in a townhome. I had a maintenance man unlock my door and come in my house with me home. I work from home and was in a meeting so I couldn’t open the door so he decided to just let his self in. The gave a notice 2 days prior but never gave a date or time. When he entered my house my dogs were going crazy and jumping on him. I flew down the stairs and ask why his was in my house and to please leave before I call the police. He then refused to leave and said “he had the right to be in my house whenever he wanted.” He finally called the property manager and was walking out of my house but he had his foot in the doorway i was so frantic I closed the door on his foot. He then was screaming and cussing at me and called me a c*nt. Needless to say he got fired that same day about 30 minutes after the incident. I was still worried and scarred to be in my house alone during the day but luckily we moved a few months after that!

This case truly upset me when I saw how it all went down. I work for a leasing office since I was around Miya’s age & my dad was a VERY beloved maintenance for over 30 yrs of the building before he passed. I cannot imagine things being any different than how I am used to, so to hear all this & the tragedy that happened 😢 my heart goes out to her family, I know loosing a child is the hardest thing ever. May her beautiful soul rest in peace.

When I got my 1st apartment, they did pest prevention every month. It was always scheduled for the 1st Monday of the month. I was usually at work so the pest guys would use the master key & just come in & do their thing. So one particular Friday (my day off) I'm getting out of the shower when I hear my front door opening. I immediately throw on my robe & reach for my "pew-pew" in my dresser drawer & Pop out of the bedroom where I'm looking at the pest control guy & he's looking down the barrel of a 38. He had rescheduled with the apartment manager (who didn't inform me!) & Just assumed that I wasn't home. You can bet that he never assumed again! Lol But I always thought- what if I hadn't heard the door opening?? He would have just walked right in on me buck naked in my bathroom! 🤬

i did graduate during covid and had to start college online…missed prom and did not get to say goodbye to your friends…it was hard but clearly not as hard as those who lost their close ones due to covid

I have heard this one before but of course not the way you tell a story! Hard to believe that simply rejecting some loser ass guy can set them off to the point of killing you! Insane. I'm not trying to bag on myself but I know I'm not super attractive and I'm actually quite thankful for that. I feel like somewhat less of a target, unfortunately, that's how it goes. Ot how it seems to go. These guys aren't out killing the ugly women no one wants. They go after the beautiful ones who they'll never stand a chance with and they must know that going into the situation. I just hate people. Thanks for the upload gorgeous.

I really wanna know what he (or ppl like him) are thinking while they’re waiting in a closet to attack someone. How does ur guilt not build u up to get u to stop? The anger doesn’t subside? He clearly couldn’t live with himself afterwards so where is the fore thought? This is so sad.

I live in Illinois, and I'm not sure what the laws are concerning entering rentals. Way back in 2002, I was living with my 1 year old in my 1st apartment. Looking back, it was a dump, but at $325 a month for a 2 bedroom in a nice area- totally worth it. Until the maintenance came in on two separate occasions without any notice. The second time, they didn't even bother to NOCK. I was on the 2nd floor, getting dressed- I was in the shower 5 minutes before I heard them come through the door. Scary as hell. I broke my lease and moved not long after.
