Me and my brother almost had it this bad. I did not talk till close to 5 years old due to my birth parents trauma. I read the court document later in life to find out where I came from and oh my God. I was so angry at my birth parents but grateful to the person who called the cops and saved our lives. Me and my brother broke the cycle. If you see something say something, you may save a kid like me and my brother.much ❤

My 2 brothers and me(woman) had it so bad. When my brother was in his later 20's early 30's he found out he had 'dysplasia of the hip due to 1 of maàannnnnyyyy beatings. And because of that his cage fighting and kickboxing teacher careers were gone overnight,seriously. I got epilepsy due to one,and at 47 I've been of work with several physical disabilities,for 21 yrs. My older brother has back,not as bad as mine. Al due to 2 evil people who should never of had us 3. Their were soooo many mistakes made,by police,family,social services, and head teachers,its still the same now,why don't more?. We couldn't leave home till we were 18(control) when I left second,I took my 16yr old bro with me-right after he got an unprovoked beating. We ALL broke the mould. I AM the TOTAL opposite. Mommy of 3 mom of Many xx stay strong all we deserve ❤️

I’m so happy that you have a happy life now and a great mommy to your babies.. I went through hell with my mom it started as I was born. I was beaten every day..when her fists weren’t enough she would use her a belt but the buckle end and my legs would split were ever it hit! But I’m okay now, I have four children and seven grandchildren who are my world..❤️❤️

I'm a mother of 4 ranging from 2 to 12. I cannot imagine not snuggling them, kissing them, playing with them, teaching them. And I agree, when I have to discipline my kids or I get frustrated with them and a bit snappy with my responses and I feel instant guilt when I see their sad faces. Sticking to punishments is crazy hard for me, I would've killed that man to rescue those kids.

Girl same here... I have five kids from ages 4 to 20!! There is nothing I wouldn't do for them. And I get so upset with myself if I even have to raise my voice with them. I don't understand how these people out here doing unspeakable things to children.😢 I can't imagine a day without my children let alone to ever harm them. 💔 when I hear cases with kids in them I wish I could just take an every single child.

This story is too sad. This poor child was mistreated so badly. I have 5 kids and they are the light of my life. They’re the best thing I’ve ever done! My father was a college professor of Child Development & Learning Theory. These cases fascinated but horrified him. And yes, he was an amazingly great parent. He nurtured us, shared his love of reading and learning, and used discipline that was constructive. There was also a case of a child basically raised by monkeys.

Genie was not kept in a basement. She was kept in a main floor bedroom. The pictures of the outside of her house show that the window to her room was on the main floor.

I've read and watched MANY documentaries about her over the course of many years. They lived in a two bedroom house. One bedroom was a shrine to the dad's mother. The other was Genie's room. That's why her parents and brother slept in the living room.

Just fyi as someone who was abused in many ways by my egg donor, when i found out she was murdered i was happy because she wouldnt hurt anyone ever again but i also was mad that i never got the chance to get some answers as to why she was such a f*cked up pos. And that might have been why he was so mad about her dying. When someone is treated like crap their while life and the abuser dies it f*cks up the victim, it never makes it easier.

Apparently, her father's given name was "Pearl" and he later changed it to "Clark" due to all his years of bullying.

I don't know how deeply you delved into this. I learned about this in basic sociology class. I later learned the person who "saved" her used her for research and a book. There was no real effort made to heal her. So sad

There’s actually a video of this girl speaking it’s only two minutes and her speech is understandably difficult to decipher but the fact that she wanted to learn wanted to know how to do things and talking and all that and the fact that she could, and did pick up language even for a little bit just proves that that girl was a smart as smart could be and those idiots That she was forced to live with for the first 13 years of her life. They didn’t deserve her that poor kid deserve so much better on so many levels.

This is so heartbreaking. The foster system is so messed up. You have people that are great but they seem few and far between. It’s like the researchers didn’t care after they were done with her. That’s so disgusting. She was so delicate and they threw her in the lions den bc they don’t properly keep up with foster parents. There should be more regulations on foster parents like social service cases. They should have to have unplanned checkups or drop ins. And they should sit down with the kids to listen to what they make gut know about the living situation. Cps is such a joke. Thank you Zara for this case and all the information and hard work. As we know the treatment of abused children takin from their abusive homes go on to be abused in foster and adoptive homes. To many “caring” people step in to interveiw these children then thrown to the wolves. I’m my opinion. This is a problem to this day.

I don’t understand how that couple that had her for FOUR years just gave up on her because the funding dried up. Heck, you’d think they would’ve had some emotional attachment to the girl by then. Then the mother comes and gets her when she’s not even capable of caring for her. All these people were awful. The poor brother went through hell also…and the poor little infant left to freeze. These people were abnormal and cruel.

If she is still alive rn she is 66 years old. They do have pictures of her as an adult but the last one i could find was probably over 10 years ago. Maybe I u did harder more can be found but it says as of 2022 her whereabouts are unknown but would be living in an adult care home in California. This is horrible and sadly still happening to this day. Sometimes I really don't know what to think about how f**ked up the world we live in has been, is, and will continue to be

🤬 It reminds me of the Turpin kids, House of Horror. They placed the youngest children into a home, where they were ABUSED!! At home they had never been sexually abused, the foster care system added that to the list!! 🤬

Her case needed both care AND research and unfortunately it all fell apart for her and I just find REPREHENSIBLE! There is absolutely a way to conduct research while treating with compassion and respecting her as a human being! I get it’s definitely an ethical nightmare but if humans could control themselves it could’ve been better for her. So tragic!

We studied her case and others alongside with "talking" animal cases in psycholinguistics. They are all horrible cases. There is a similar one that took place in Spain during the dictatorship about a kid that was partially raised by wolves. He was socialised during his critical years so he is able to speak but he didn't developed social skills so he was often scammed by evil people. His name is Marcos Rodríguez Pantoja and he is still alive.

🫂Susan Wiley. & yes, this occurrence was terribly horrible in so many ways, not least of which being; That she was "Fostered" by numerous EXTREMELY ABUSIVE Foster Families, as a young-adult, & afterwards has lived in Elderly-Care-Homes. Today; she's over 66y.o., if still alive. I hope she can finally live in peace, however she wishes to!🫂

I would assume they had vasectomy's back then, he should have had 1. If he didn't want babies then he should have taken the measures instead of leaving it up to the women. Fyi vasectomy's are far less invasive, less risky and cheaper than hysterectomies. These type of men disgust me!

My memory may be faulty here, but I think the mom felt the institution was better than the "adoption". It was the person who researched her. Treated her like a lab rat. They never tried to actually heal her. Just study

So many people in her life were cruel and exploited her for their own gain then abandoned her. I really hope she is happy and well cared for now. I work in child welfare, we do so much better at protecting children from and after abuse, but people do horrible shit to tiny children all the time. It’s disgusting and heartbreaking. If this story moves you consider becoming a foster parent, help out new parents when you can, and if you see a child mistreated report it.
