Hey Mike...what is it 'they' say....."Great minds think alike"...?? I beat ya to it sir. I anchored mine to 6x6's years ago and one other thing...The more wind ya got, the quicker the tarps wear through or rip down the seams ya know. So what I did was I got a 24' round swimming pool cover that was discarded and tossed that over the top then threaded 1/4" nylon rope through all the eyelets and made a drawstring to cinch it down tight to keep everything from flapping. Works wonders and its been on there more than 10 years and is finally starting to frazzle just a tad, but not much. Just loosen and peel it back to gain entry. But I don't get in to it too often anyway. But man, the pool covers last and last and...... I better go check it today, I'm getting a bad feeling now.Thanks for the video sir. The rebar/washer is a great idea !! Happy New Year Mike !!!

Happy New Year Tractor Man!!! I knew I saw that idea somewhere and it must have been at your place!!! Oh wait: I was never to your place. Oh well, if I was there I would have seen it!!!LOL!!! Thanks for watching and the pool cover would be a great idea too as I bet they are UV proof. Sure hope 2019 is a good year for you guys!!! Take 'er easy!!!

First to coment! Thanks for sharing. That is pretty much what my father in law do. He had once his shelter dancing around it's truck, which caused numerous damages to it. Better be safe than sorry!

Bon matin mon ami!!! Tu es the preimiere!!! Those shelters are pretty good but they do get around in a wind. I have a neighbor who lives up the lake from me and he had a 12 X 20 shelter blow right past his picture window. The anchors sure help to keep the shelters close to home!!! Thanks for watching Joe. BTW I tried to say "You are the first" How did I do? LOL!!!

How's she goin'? I don't think those shelters will stick around long without something significant to hole them in place. I guessing where you are that you get hurricanes and high winds on occasion so an anchor system would be a must have!!! Thanks a lot for having a look at my video!!! Take 'er easy!!!

How's she goin'? The weather in Nova Scotia is 'changeable' to say the least. I'm not going to say it's worse than anywhere's else though as everyone has weather that is worth talking about, I guess that's why everyone talks about the weather!!! Thanks for watching Dave. In appreciate you tuning in. Merry Christmas!!!

Hey John!!! It sounds like you've had 'travelling tents' before!!! These shelters work well but like their names says, they are 'temporary'!! But you could get a lot of temporary ones before you would pay for a wood structure. I guess that's why they are so popular!! Take 'er easy!!!

I have recovered many artefact form rails ways in various region in the eastern townships ans put in on the top of my wood stove with my rock from across the globe for keeping the eat a little bit longer. That's what I did. The original cover wore out after 2 years and I just put a heavy duty tarp on top, does the job
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 4 года назад
How's she goin'? For sure eh!!! The frames for the temporary shelters will probably last for a long time but the canvas rots with time. The heavy tarps work great!!! They may not be fitted around the corners and edges, but you can tie them off and no problems!!! Thanks a lot for the comment and for watching. Take care!!

perfect timing! I just picked up a shelter similar but one of the cheap harbor freight ones. still have not been able to get it up yet. been planning on a wood outer ring on three sides like you did but I was not sure what size timber to use. 4x4 or larger. I need to get that thing up soon. thanks for the suggestion on the rebar, I used that stuff a lot around here. most all my landscaping timbers are held down with it. another great video that will help a lot of us out.
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 5 лет назад
How's she goin' Dave? Thx for tuning in!!! My shelter used to go for a walk every time it was windy till I anchored it down and the rebar sure does a good job of that. I was going to use 4 x 4 but it didn't look right under the shelter so I went with 6 x 6. I must say though that the 4 x 6 seems to be about the best solution. Hope yours works out for you!!! Merry Christmas!!!

@GrampiesWorkshop 2 года назад
How's she goin'? Good luck getting it set up!! My only advice would be to make sure it is well anchored so the wind doesn't move it around on you. One thing that I have done to help keep the shelter in place was put a ratchet strap from the shelter frame to what ever is in the shelter to help hold it in place. Thanks for tuning in and commenting too. That is so nice to see!!! Take care!!!

How's she goin'? I bet it does. I have a daughter-in-law who is from a place just outside Corner Brook and she says the winds is some wicked by times!!! Hey AK how's she goin'? My shelters are tucked in behind the barn and blocked somewhat from the wind by trees but the wind would still find them. The bases and anchors just make sure they stay where I pit them and it makes it easier to find them in the mornings!!!LOL!!! Hope the winter isn't battering you guys too bad. Great video! How did you drive the rebar into the ground? I have very gravely/rocky soil and would need a way of getting through this type of soil.
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 2 года назад
How's she goin'? My soil sounds the same as yours. I put about 1 to 2 feet of fill on this spot before putting the shelter in place. The rebar I think was 3 feet long and I just started pounding it into the ground. I think I hit rocks on 3 of the rebar but I kept hammering away and eventually they went in. Try putting a point on the end of the rebar, that might help. Good luck with you project. Take care!!!
@p51mustang31
@p51mustang31 2 года назад
@@GrampiesWorkshop Thanks for the feedback! I have a post-hole driver so maybe I'll have that a shot, or perhaps my sledge hammer. The rebar stakes I have found already have pointed ends on it.
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 2 года назад
@@p51mustang31 I hope you can get the posts set. I now it sure helped keep my shelter in place!! Plus having the 6 X 6 wood perimeter allows for a better way to seal off the sides and secure the shelter so the wind can't get in under.

This person who's a big fan of Grampie's workshop used a hammer drill. Personally, I'm going to adapt this hammer drill method with the straight rebar rod and add the welded top after. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V9wwRX2svAk.html

@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 4 года назад
How's she goin'? Yes sir. They were about 20 inches long and straight. I welded a big washer on the top so I could use that to bolt them to the base of the shelter. I made them about 20 inches long just because that's all the rebar I had!!! LOL Thanks for having a look at the video and take care!!
