+Werecat 2006 Not really spoilers. It's speculation based on stuff that happened in book 2 and 3. Don't read this if you don't want this stuff explained to you, but it's not stuff that's been spoiled for you if you are on book 4...it's stuff you have missed in the earlier books. If you are on book 4 and that spoiler was news to you it's because you haven't put together the clues, not that you haven't gotten to that part yet. It's fairly heavily hinted that Ned isn't Jons father, for example when Stannis is searching for the heirs to the throne near the beginning he remarks how Robert having lots of bastards isn't something that surprises him but he thought it seemed very out of character for the honourable Ned Stark to have fathered one. The rumour is that Jons mother was the midwife or a prostitute but Stannis flat out refuses to believe it, and Stannis knew Ned well. You also know that Ned had a sister, Lyanna, who was abducted by the Targaryans (she was one of the main reasons the rebellion started against the Targaryens). Ned recalls Lyanna dying in "a bed of blood", but it's never mentioned how she died, but a bed of blood? Could easily be child birth. Again, it's fairly heavily hinted at as early as book two that Rhaegar Targaryen raped her. He was obsessed with the 3 headed dragon prophecy and thought it meant that he needed to have 3 heirs. He only had 2. It's also mentioned frequently that all of Neds children look like their mother, where as Jon looks just like Ned. It's brought up as one of the reasons Cat doesn't like Jon, but the subtle implication here is that the Starks genes are recessive on the male side. If Jon was Neds he would look like his mother...but he doesn't, he looks like Ned, but not because Ned is his father, but because Jon looks like his mother, Neds sister. I think the strongest hint however is in book 3 when Danerys has the visions in the House of the Undying. In one of the visions she has she is told that "The dragon has three heads, there must be one more" implying that she has family she isn't aware of. Rhaegar (her brother) had two children with Elia Martell, 2 heads of the dragon. Jon would be the third. She then goes on to have a vision of a blue flower (which is mentioned a couple of times to be Lyanna's favourite) growing on a wall of ice...you know, a wall of ice? Like maybe the one where Jon is at the time?

It was more the way it was said, like it was a fact that might have been revealed in the show/ later point. Good to know that it is just a theory though.

+Werecat 2006 I mean I wouldn't call it a theory. The blue rose thing might as well be a sentence saying "By the way Jon Snow is a Targaryen". It might not be immediately obvious because those things I mentioned are mentioned several hundred pages apart, but put them together and there really isn't another way of looking at it. It's pretty clear cut, Jon is Lyanna and Rhaegars son. I mean there's a chance that Martin is deliberately trying to mislead people into coming to that conclusion and Jons mother is someone else entirely, but if Jon isn't a Targaryen, you are certainly meant to think he is at this point in the series. I do agree however that Smith and Lewis are fucking cunts with spoilers. "It's been out a month, how long do people expect us not to talk about it?" How about you just say you are going to talk about it before you talk about it, and don't just blurt out major plot points, as if spoiling things is some hilarious joke. It's not funny, it's fucking arseholish.
