Benedict Cumberbatch plays Sherlock Holmes in the new three-part adaptation that starts on BBC One on Sunday. He told BBC Breakfast why this Sherlock is different to any other portrayal.
Ben must have really pissed off his stylist.Otherwise I just can't find any other explanation as to why is he wearing pink socks,puma shoes and a suit with that.Still to me he looks as adorable as ever
i fell 'in love' with this show in the first 5 seconds!!! that never happens!!! :D And Benedict Cumberbatch can play anything from the best friend in amazing grace to kahn in star trek. ack... he should've been spock.... :-(
Me, being a Sherlock holmes fan going back to Basil Rathbone, I think this is the best Sherlock Holmes series EVER. BBC, please keep this going, I want to see MANY, MANY, episodes.
I had a dream about him and he was wearing ONE of those shoes the other was a loafer, and I walked up to him and said "Nice shoes." And then he replied "Oh, sorry..." and finally I said " Oh no problem, you look good in 'em." I was pretty happy that morning U_U
I have read them. Sherlock Holmes is an amazing character, but it is a fact admited by ACD himself that he didn't give a toss about him. The creators of this series adore the character. And it shows.

I agree. And I positively adore The Mentalist. I do however, hate that they "Americanize" Simon Baker. Other than that it's a great series as well. I really see a connection between Patrick and Sherlock. They both observe, screw with your head and have arch-enemies. (Red John and Moriarty) Just, Sherlock really is a bit off and Patrick just wants you to think he's off.
@animagigirl i agree, psych and monk are different characters using a similar skill set but with notably different personalities. I've found myself growing more obeservant after conciously thinking about this type of observing, analyzing, and deducting logic. The show "lie to me" has also helped a bit, and OFC general knowledge of the natural sciences don't hurt.
@musicartsliterature thanks for the correction, half/high was misheard, sociopath was just a misspelled late at night :P Anyways, i find the character and his self-diagnosis interesting, since i for a while was uncertain whether i had this condition or not. After researching it i found i didn't, as i'm mostly a-social and a-moral (not anti-) but have the capacity for empathy and remorse (though not a very active one). I'm also prone to boredom, but my insatiable curiosity + internet access helps
@bookspazz I got corrected and reckognized it above, so you pointing it out now 5 months later is just redundant. Re. Munk/Monk was just a typo, as i'm norwegian and we write it munk. I wrote it correctly later in replies.
Trouble is, none of those shows mentioned in the clip, nor any of the ones mentioned in the comments here, are influences /on/ Sherlock. Sherlock all influenced them. If you look at ANY major crime or mystery show, it wouldn't have happened without Sherlock Holmes! So any comparisons that are drawn should be drawn in respect to that.
@gulllars It's not a talk show haha, it's the news! Perhaps they are a bit off the mark with the CSI comparison, but it's just for conversation for the interview.
@gulllars nah, monk and psych are to goofy and are no where near to sherlock. the mentalist uses the same idea as holmes and he says all of what he deduced as if its nothing while psych and monk are stuttering and being to normal while holmes and patrick jane just seem so different with these oberservations and deductions
'Some of the writers have also written for doctor who'?! Sorry love, but you really have shown how little you know about Sherlock. It started because of doctor who! and the writer of sherlock is the head writer of Doctor who!
This is just an awesome series. The hosts on this talk shows seems very poor informed comparing it to CSI. This is much closer to Munk, The Mentalist, or Psych, all of wich have hyperobservant main characters assisting the police. Of all of them it's closest to Munk in many respects, but The Mentalist is also great at logical deduction. I also love how sherlock corrects the coroner guy when he calls him a psycopath and say "i'm a half-functional sosiopath, get your facts straight" XD
@Impartial15 oh wow o.o i saw pictures of him with that getup, but they look ok. but here... he doesnt look professional at all. i mean, his tux is meant to make him look professional, but then his feet...
his outfit doesn't look very decent. the shoes, the socks, the slightly crumpled suit? naaah, Ben, never wear that again, okay? love you still, though. :)
