Well this was a worthwhile break in between work!! Down-right awesome getting to ride in one of these, just to feel the amount of raw power a tank has. Planning to go back in the future for more...
SHARP! I wished my S-10 ran as god as that Sherman. I was almost in an armor outfit but ended up in the supporting Engineer outfit instead. Drove a 5-ton water truck and got to wet the tank trails down while the tanks were out running around. The jobs that had the double turbo, air cooled Continental V-12's in them, the sweetest sounding rigs almost I ever heard. Bellow, smoke and turbo whistle! Pop will know which ones they were. Ft Riley, Ks. 1970. You did good and thanks for this'n. Make up a song about it! GBWYall!
Engineer eh? That beats wallowing in the mud or freezing cold breaking tank track! Dad had a good crew, but man some of the condition they had to work in was something else... I bet he'll know! I don't remember what he ran when stationed over in Germany, lot of leftover equipment from years past. Some up-to-date stuff... Thanks Lewie!
@@5Tractorguy I was at Ft. Riley Ks. I didn't get a dozer till I was on my last let in my term. That was a D7E and a 5 ton and lowboy to haul it on. But I was out on that thing in the Chesapeake Bay pushing sand for beach reclamation with no cab so I made up for a lot then and right on for almost my whole life not being able to afford Carhart's. I went in with a construction machine operators MOS so they put me where they could get their moneys worth I guess. .And I guess if I had to do it all over again the only part I'd change was growing up a little quicker.
Very cool Jake! Those things sound pretty cool! I'd imagine it must have been pretty cool to go for a ride too! Cool to see some slightly different stuff on the channel too! Definitely caught my interest LOL! PS: The ol 88 looks pretty good there in the background!
@@5Tractorguy Sorry I asked before I saw this post. Assuming it's original then it might be the Ford V8 or possibly even the Chrysler bank engine, which was basically 5 straight 6's mated together.
@@5Tractorguy honestly? That sounds like a Ford GAA; they have a very unique sound even for a V8 Edit: I retract that statement, thats a Chrysler Multibank. Rare beast here in the states, most of those ended up in Europe
@@5Tractorguy Lord knows what engine might in a Sherman, apparently they ( the Army, any Army :) used whatever engine they could get. I have seen a Ford Flat Head in one, here in Canada, many years ago. They also used Continental engines, Multi Bank Chrysler engines etc. I'll be interested if you will let us ( me ) know when you do find out. Cheers!
