What's up, people! I'm back with another Tears for Fears reaction from their 1996 compilation album Saturnine Martial & Lunatic, and this time we listen to the rocking, soulful, and beautifully produced and performed "Lord of Karma," a track that really feels like the inside of Roland's brain sonically. So join me for another top-shelf tune from this excellent compilation. Cheers!
Also I recently set up a Patreon, so anyone interested in supporting what we do on this channel through donation can go here. Cheers! / shnootz

Hey, folks! So I used some of the donations people have already made to repair my camera (which did indeed have a problem; shout-out to Stephan for bringing it to my attention), so hopefully the videos look better now (though sorry, I'm not any prettier ;). Cheers!

Arley Araujo has now posted instrumental versions of songs from Everybody Loves a Happy Ending. Beautiful and emotional! Check out his channel, if you like.

This is so seriously funky! And it feels like Roland just cutting loose and having fun. From the way he sings it, to the percussion and the lyrics. "Mystic pain-o-rama" gets me every time. "My super ego, where I go he go." I love it! And I love how all the different percussive sounds that open the track are repeated later in the song, like Roland is playing around and toying with the listener. Then you have the guitars, screaming lead with a great solo, rocking rhythm guitar and that bass. Cool bits at the end of some lines where there is movement in the bass that leads into the next line. And this is a song written with Alan Griffiths, so some of those layered guitars would be him playing along with Roland. And the vocals! Roland's delivery on this is so good! It has a lot of attitude, a swagger perhaps. And the lyrical pattern is such that you get those extra couple of words with the melody taking a downturn at the end of some lines. Roland just kind of tosses those words out. As Matt mentioned, Roland has this ability to throw his voice from high to low and all around, and here it's not just with the repeating phrase "Lord of Karma." "These are the reasons and these are the laws, in one life you're rich, in the next you are poor," is a line that snakes its way down his upper to lower register while explaining about the concept of karma. That "mystic pain-o-rama" will "come a keeping the score," so watch yourself! "Down on bended knees forever!" A couple more things about the lyrics. Roland is good at stringing together a series of rhyming words within a line. Here we have "be sure as you go and you go with the flow, and you reap what you sow, as above, so below." The granddaddy of them all comes in the song Everybody Loves a Happy Ending. And "no pain, no gain" may be fitting for a song about karma, and that idea is something Roland seems to embrace, especially starting anew with Elemental. "The beauty of decay" from Break It Down Again and "nothing ever changes unless there's some pain" from Goodnight Song being prime examples. Up next, a fav of mine, Bloodletting Go! And ATTN MATT!: There are five more tracks on SM&L. The last track is The Way You Are, about five minutes long, the single version. You already reacted to the extended version of this song that was included on The Hurting. I actually think that extended version is better, the difference being that there are longer musical passages spacing out the vocals. So ponder whether or not you want to react to the shorter version here. Also, there is a short track (under three min.) coming up that is an experimental instrumental called Empire Building, so title only to contemplate!

How in the HELL have I not heard of Saturnine Martial and Lunatic? Wow, I can't believe I'm getting to enjoy these for the first time. I bet some people are jealous lol I thought Raoul was the last of the 90s TFF. The journey continues and I'm loving it

@@brothadarrell8315 Hey! This album is not a studio album but a compilation of B-sides and a few odd tracks from the beginning of TFF through Elemental. Some of the tracks are really experimental. And there are some tremendously great tunes like Lord of Karma! You will definitely have to give all this a listen. The album is not in chronological order, so it skips from early Tears with Curt, the Seeds of Love when they were having problems and about to split up, and then Roland with Alan Griffiths after the split. So three periods of Tears for Fears, Saturnine Martial & Lunatic. I have thought of one more TFF track for you to check out. I didn't know about it myself until recently. If you have never heard Mad World- The Afterlife Remix, check it out. It's beautiful.

Quick question TFF fans! Are there any books about the band you could recommend? I was asked about this and I don't really have an answer for it. Thanks!
