Truckers Bourton is my shoe everytime. Bought a pair in 1985. Still get comments how great they look. I have looked after them

I‘m a Tricker‘s fan. I used to have Loake shoes, but then I found out that even the „made in England“ series are partially made in India. Apart from the 1880 I think even the Export Grade - and then £360 is just too expensive. Tricker‘s make everything in house, even the thread.

It’s disgusting because many people buy loakes on the basis of the lie they are told of them being English made when as you stated all uppers are clicked, cut and stitched in India.

There is no doubt that clicking and closing is an integral part of the shoemaking process.

⁠⁠⁠⁠@@herb2078maybe theyve changed policies since you wrote this comment. However as it stands now their Loake 1880 and Loake Shoemakers range are 100% made in England. Their Loake By Design are made in India. Loake Lifestyle are made in India, Italy and Portugal. It may also be of interest to know that the factory in India is Loakes own. Manufacturing is pretty much identical to English made ones (apparently)- apart from the price. They brand country of origin on all their footwear where it was made.

@@jackthelada I work in the industry, it’s always been the same they have no clicking, cutting and stitching department in operation. Again all 1880 uppers are made in India and they do the rest here in England and for marketing purposes can they say it’s a English made shoe. When it’s not. People just don’t like to hear the facts as they’ve purchased a pair of shoes from loakes under the premise it’s a English made shoe. Please the old “it’s a English factory in India” is ridiculous.

Anyone that knows their shoes will tell you it’s almost insulting that these two are being compared. Firstly Loakes are Indian made, their 1880 “English made” shoes all uppers are clicked cut and stitched in India. The grade of leather is a second best to anything trickers use. Trickers are made completely in house in their factory in England and using much higher grade leather and craftsmanship.

I love them both, but I'm drawn to the Trickers a little more. I totally agree with your cost analysis, the Trickers pound for pound are the better shoe. Loake used to sell the Trinity in Burnt Pine which were beautiful, so maybe it's about the colour for me too.😃Great video as always. Thank you.

I fell in love with trickers stow acorn boots. It’s why I’m here. They were great except they squeaked or the right shoe squeaked. I contacted the factory and they told me it was just moisture and as I wore them they would dry. Well, a few weeks passed and the squeak never left. So I contacted the factory again, they said that because they had been worn they could not be replaced. So I was screwed. I could squeak up and down hallways with only one shoe. So I had to sell them at a great loss. I don’t know why they couldn’t send me another right shoe and take the old one apart for diagnosing. I was not looking to gain any advantage or save money. Needless to say I am very disappointed with Trickers. I replaced them with Barkers, pretty close but not quite the same. However, they are cheaper and don’t squeak.

Sorry for your troubles. I’ve heard local cobblers can repair squeaking should you run into that again. Fortunately I’ve never run into that myself.

May be this is the right time to look at altneratives like Loake 1880 export grade. I am very impressed by Loake Customer service replies. I bought 3 pairs of Loake which ll be out of their range soon.

I also had an issue with different sizing with the same brand, what type or brand of insole do you recommend if a shoe is a little bit loose?

I’ve used pedaq if it’s slight. I’m still looking for a tweeter. Bought a bunch that are not great.

@@wishoeguy yeah I’m struggling finding a good leather insole, I guess pedag May be the best but the 1 pair I ordered from Amazon sizing isn’t correct... I ordered my size and it was a bit small

@@wishoeguy it’s not necessarily sliding around it just doesn’t fill up the shoe width or length wise... but I haven’t walked a full day in them to see if it will slide, just tried them on to see if it would make the shoes a little more snug

@@wishoeguy I would like share that I like to use Tacco brand insole made in Germany - Orthotic Shoe Insoles Inserts Tacco Gel-Deluxe and without gel. They are probably the best brand I had used so far

Tricker's all the way! I'm a fan :-) One of my first pair of decent shoes: Tricker's single monks with wing tip brogues in tan bought on ebay for 70 quid. My thoughts :-)

Great tip! There are a lot of great shoes on eBay that don't harm the wallet nearly as much as buying new. Great way to try sizing and brands as well.
