When you grow Grass, Greens or Micro-Greens, you plant on top of something. That something is a medium. Can you use the medium again after harvesting a crop? This Short Bit video answers that question.

Hi Debbie *U* I know you from Renegade Health Show. All the greats run in the same circles! :O) Thanks for the confirmation. After my crop of sunflower greens, I had white fuzzy stuff coming out of the medium. Even new medium had same fuzzies with wheat grass. This bag of medium has been open in the shed for a while, so I WILL bake it for a while before my next planting. Does baked medium have the same aroma as barley soup? YUM. Chester looks like our dog, so Jazzy says HI Chester

Microbial contamination! That's got to be why my wheat grass failed the other day, and because I left it outside in the sun. Turns out they like my closet better, the last two batches seem to be doing fine.

Since compost is used in gardens, aren't you sending unwanted microbes from growth medium to compost to garden if you compost it?

But you seemed to give part of a useful answer: Stick in the oven for a couple of hours at 400 degrees, and the problems of contamination are over.
