Most of us need to resolve to the fact that due to metabolic syndrome we just can’t handle too many carbs. The exact amount will differ from person to person. Get over it. Good health and feeling well is so worth the low carb life style. Getting rid of all the belly fat feels so good.
it is so very difficult to remove oneself from the past teachings that got us here, in trouble with our health. Unless I get rid of all those auto-thoughts, like when I'm cooking, to not put too much fat in the pan, or draining the fat, or not putting too much salt, as well as the one I got recently of being afraid of hunger, I will continue to struggle. I'm looking forward to alleviating all the diet stressers and it becoming natural and automatic.
@@dana102083 I still marvel at how I used to cook hamburger . . . draining the fat and throwing it away!!! as compared to now. I add butter and eat all of it, draining/throwing nothing away. I used to portion, limiting mine to one 3oz patty. Now I eat a full pound for one meal. But I still have that voice that says to limit red meat. I don't listen, I smile and enjoy. It will go away eventually, I guess. Same with soup: used to chill the cooking broth and remove the fat. NUTZO!!! It's definitely a journey.
It would be helpful that when we discuss “carbs”, we differentiate grain carbs vs vegetable carbs. I personally don’t eat any carbs from grain and lean more towards carnivore. Each person needs to find their sweet spot with veggies or meat and do what’s feels good to your body. Great videos Dr Westman
Agreed but when someone is just starting carbs mean junk :) once you do it you realize the differences and may add more nuts, sweet potato, beets or apple..in small portions of course. I lean carnivore the longer I go as I listen to my body. Cheers
I lost almost 80lbs and was to strict. I’m between 135-140 just maintaining eating all types of keto baked goods lately. It’s great I have no worries anymore and keep playing with macros! Good luck y’all on the journey!
Once I started Keto, it made me realize how harmful all the junk is and how easily we consume Calories just blindly snacking away. I used to love watching mukbangs but now it kinda grosses me out.
I increase my carbs usually for one reason - to get in adequate potassium and magnesium. Still tweaking my intake but I can usually fit it all in within 30g carbs. My heart races if I don’t get a certain amount of K & Mg. Everything else takes care of itself. Cals, fat, protein, etc. Too much protein kicks me out of keto and I can feel it so I just know how much protein my body likes for keto and it seems much less than others. It’s one big experiment haha but so great. I rarely have cravings, no migraines, energetic, and burning fat. : ) Love keto! Thanks Doc for all your help.
I'm at my goal weight after doing the Keto diet. How do I maintain my weight now? Do I bring myself out of a calorie deficit while maintaining my Keto macros? I want to stick with Keto for the long run.
How are you doing? It took me time to figure out maintenance as i ate omad.. Some days i eat 2mad to get more food and I focus on sauces and dips and on bone skin on meats always. Cheers
I've been on Keto 2+ years, am on it for life! When I reached goal weight my weight stayed put, fluctuating only for bodily fluids. I've been very happy with this and have no intention of going back to carbs.
Donna -1:48 I'm not at my goal yet but my husband is so we need to know. Sima - 2:40 Hello dr. Westman I know you're not a big believer of macros but I've recently switched mine and increased my protein to about a hundred grams a day and lowered my fat grams to about 75-80 and I see a very big Improvement in weight loss also I'm much Fuller. I used to do the opposite at least 100 grams of fat and only 70-80 protein whats your take on the new science of the muscle protein synthesis with the importance of retaining muscle while losing weight Mary - 04:41 I need to know! I don't want to get any thinner. Karayani - 5:09 Hi, Dr Setven Phenny talks about 50 grams a day, what do you think? Renee - 5:29 I want to know, too. I'll put an additional question about the number of carbs if you are working out - I am doing one hour six days a week - strength training and cardio. I am not doing it to lose weight as I have been maintaining a 100+ weight loss for over a year now. I just really enjoy exercise now. Larry - 6:23 Carb cycling before you’ve reached your goal? Ginger - 06:30 How can the keto diet help me with Psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis? Dave 6:59 I've followed this lifestyle for a year, all the bloodwork looks great, weight loss looks great. Can I use net carbs now and how do I factor that in?
Don't over stretch yourself & it won't be a problem, if u eat slow , it gives your brain time to know what's happening & respond & say , hey u , were getting full ok , slow down , if u eat fast , it's just u & your brain said ok , well nap ! & when your done u r over stuffed & heaiver! ! 🥦🥑🫛🍉💝🚴♀️
You can't not eat anything. While for sure this is true, the longer I fast the better I feel. I don't know how long I could go and have no intentions to find out. The fact is, for me, fasting and a keto diet have helped make me feel better than I have in years. Must be something to it. There is no question in my case.
Michelle Pereira we are going to be launching Dr. Westmans “Keto made simple Masterclass” in the next month or so, if you send an email to support@adaptyourlife.com I’ll place you on the waiting list 😊
Adapt your life . Not in the morning , it is after 15-26 hours of fasting , it is high in the morning too , the longer I don’t eat any thing the higher my sugar gets 🤔I don’t get it ! Why?
The dawn effect. Also if insulin resistant your body meeds even more sugar to prepare for morning. Keep at it it will come..no tea in your sugar right?
I lost 26 lbs. the first 3 weeks and then I passed out when I was downtown with my husband and my cholesterol was high so he made me go back on carbs now I have gained all the weight back is there anything I can do to not make my cholesterol go up so high P.S. I am in Quito Ecuador so the doctors here are very old medicine and don't understand the Keto Diet. Please help........ my weight is 180.lbs and I am 57 years old and 80. lbs over weight
Hi shirley arizaga, we cannot give you medical advice. I can tell you that you should probably do some research on Cholesterol. Studies have shown that high cholesterol (especially for women) equates to a longer life and lower cholesterol equates to a shorter life. Here is the The link I am referring to as well as some others. medium.com/amp/p/b4090f28d96e www.bmj.com/content/352/bmj.i919
shirley arizaga you should watch the videos of Mike Feldman, He had the same and nobody can’t explain that reaction, now He become an Authority in the topic
The first month your body is still adjusting to the changes. Trust the process. Keto turned my entire health around! I've gotten off diabetic meds and statins. Triglycerides was 276 and went to 93 in four months! WBC & calcium had been too high, they normalized! It reversed my Fuch's Dystrophy of the corneas, I hadn't seen to drive at night for eight years, now I can! (Mayo clinic says there's no help for it). Pancreas, Liver (had cirrhosis) and kidneys, now normal. I feel this is a miracle way of life! Amazing energy! I also do intermittent fasting and exercise two times a day.
I’ve been eating keto/leaning low carb for 3 1/2 yrs now. I lost 45 lbs. I noted when I added more carbs I gained 7 lbs slowly. My clothes fit the same . I assume it is fluid ……is this right ?
Hi Cameron Ysidron, this is the Adapt Team answering. A Keto or Low Carb Diet is a muscle sparing diet, meaning, lean muscle mass will not decrease. Fat weight however will decrease.
@@AdaptYourLife thanks for the quick response! So, just to clarify, if I am eating a LCHF diet with a calorie surplus AND lifting weights; what should be the expected result in terms of my body composition?
Cameron Ysidron I would suggest increasing protein (this should be the only daily target for increasing muscle mass) are you currently on a LCHF protocol? How long have you been lifting for?
I lost 10kg from 76 to 66. I'm already on ideal BMI in 66kg and I don't want to lose more weight. So how? If I'm still in keto no matter how much I eat fat and protein I keep losing my weight.
@@AdaptYourLife but shouldn't ideal BMI is the point where my body supposedly happiest at? I'm trying to eat a lot to stabilize the weight but you know how hard it is to eat a lot in whole foods keto diet.
You have commented on 4 videos and you don’t even know you are incorrect. Please learn the facts before making ridiculous statements edition.cnn.com/2003/HEALTH/04/17/obit.atkins/#:~:text=Robert%20Atkins%2C%20creator%20of%20the,Center%20by%20his%20colleague%2C%20Dr.
Green Eyes hmm, Not sure that’s a good idea. Dr. Westman eats very little carbs but he does not have metabolic syndrome or type 2 diabetes. Carb intake depends on what you are trying to achieve. As an example, therapeutic use requires very little, no more than 20g total carbs per day. For health reasons and depending on your own carb tolerance, perhaps 50-100g total carbs.
Forgive me for being stupid but when we say 100g of protein for the day and 70g of fat, does that mean that when I weigh my meat out for my meals, for instance for dinner I weigh out 100g on the scale, is that it? Do these figures represent each other, what you Physically measure out and eat?
Arthur Hector Hello Arthur: there’s protein in meats, beans, milk etc. there’s fats in meats, oils, blubber etc. animal flesh like beef, lamb, chicken, fish, seafood is about one fifth of it’s weight proteins. The other 4/5th are mostly water. Some meats have more or less proteins than others. 100 g of meat will have 20 to 30 g of proteins. Depending on how you cook your meat, the amount of fat will vary.
a quick rule of thumb is that beef has approximately 7 grams of protein per ounce. 3.5 oz of chicken breast has about 30 grams of protein. Fish has approximately 22 grams in 3.5 oz. Good luck
I’m getting too thin. In another pound or two, I’ll be in the too thin category on the bmi chart. I’ve lost 65 pounds in 9 months. I have got used to my new eating lifestyle and don’t want to add sugars or grains ever again. I guess I’ll try to add more vegetables to maintain.
