In hindsight, Rose now looks like a pioneer. The MLB network now features a daily weekday show all about betting on baseball. They might as well call it the Rob Manfred Presents the Pete Rose "Making Winning Bets on Baseball for the Everyday Fan" show.
LMAO...exactly ! The ultimate hypocrisy GABP in Cincy this season opened a Sportsbook INSIDE the ballpark ! Getting in bed with sportsbooks sponsorships is NOT great optics for ANY legitimate professional sports league ! It's like a group of Nuns opening a porn production house inside the Vatican !
@@zachbush7923 yeah I think Pete rose's should of been overturned years ago I mean the guys 80 now be a shame if they overturn it after he passes an he don't get to have that moment
Whenever you mess with the outcome of a game you screwed it up for everyone. Pete bet on his team to win....Pete put himself against the line while I don't think he crossed it his arrogance rubbed people the wrong way and forced the commissioner to act the way he did. But the commissioner got to full of himself to which is why it needs to be corrected
I am sorry. He should not be in the HOF. There is a sign in EVERY locker room that clearly states the punishment in you gamble. Rose decided to ignore this. If you do not want future players to follow in his foot steps then the ban must stay in place. If you let Rose in to the HOF, what message are you sending? Do not worry if you gamble on the game we will eventually take you back. Not acceptable. I feel sorry for Rose. Great player and a good manager. As the theme song of an old television show said: "Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time".
@@TL2354 I am sorry because he was a great player. It sucks he is not in the HOF. He does not deserve to be in but I can still understand what fans are saying here. I just do not agree with them.
Nothing better than seeing someone making a point while throwing down the line from the song on the TV show Baretta especially since it's Sammy Davis, Jr.
Somebody hit 4200 hits. He was great. Put him in. Also Shoeless Joe. A lot if it is Pete’s fault. He would be in if he admitted it. He will get in one day hopefully.
I honestly think they are going to wait until he dies to put him in and not give him the pleasure of living through the experience and/or gaining anything financially from the status upgrade for more signings & speakings
As soon as Baseball partnered with Sportsbooks...they BOTH should have gotten in ! Along with deserving members of the "Black Sox" like Eddie Ciccotte ! Talk about hypocrites !
The instant MLB signed contracts with FanDuel and DraftKings, they lost all moral authority to keep Pete Rose out of the game. And Pete Rose bet on his team to win. He wasn't putting up all these prop bets that you see when you turn on MLB Network to watch a game.
Solution is simple. Give him his statue in the HOF. But don't ever let him have a job managing or anything else. This guy is ridiculous. You can stack your lineup for one day and give it away for another day when you bet on your own team. The rule was NOT you can bet on your own team, it was you cannot bet period.
In my opinion, when MLB turned a blind eye during the McGwire/Sosa homerun chase, it lost its position on Pete Rose with me. Baseball needed a shot in the arm at that time and absolutely took advantage of the situation just like the all-time hits chase with Pete.
The one thing ppl forget is that the year after Rose got banned, Reds hired another #14 in Lou Piniella who wore #41 as the Reds skipper, & led that team to a wire to wire season that culminated in a World Series sweep of Oakland. Would Pete Rose have done that? Absolutely not. The obvious question was what the heck was Pete doing to that Reds team during the years he managed them?
Here's what Pete was not doing in the years before Lou. He wasn't managing Billy Hatcher, Glenn Braggs, Randy Myers, Tim Layana or Mariano Duncan. All of whom had if not career years, near career years.
I think what people fail to realize is ( and I am a huge Pete fan and have NO DOUBT he should be in as a player and MLB are just being Pricks...which they have a long, rich history of doing...the reserve clause, ban on Black players, hiding steroid use to make big $$$ then taking a "Holier than thou" attitude and punishing the same players they co - erced to take P.E.D.'s ) even betting ON your team is wrong, especially as a Manager. Baseball is a marathon...162 games. You have to make decisions on what's best for the team in the LONG run. If you have bets on your team in individual games. You might bring in a reliever that needs an extra days rest, you might play some players that are tired , injured and need a day off. In fact you could possibly in doing some of those things get guys seriously injured because you need them to play to win your bet TODAY, as opposed to giving them the day off to have them for the long haul ! So yeah, what he did was wrong...but he did it as a manager and it had no effect on his unbelieveable numbers as a player. The man had 4,256 career hits ! That's AVERAGING 200 hits a year for over 21 years ! How many guys have more than 5 200 hit seasons in a career ? He is the only player with over 500 games played at FIVE positions ! He's also the only guy to be an All - Star at 5 different positions ! I saw him play...a lot ! Grew up in Cincy, saw my first game in 1970. While Pete may have cheated Baseball as a Manager...he NEVER cheated the fans as a player ! The guy had ONE speed...all out, all the time. When you watched him play you didn't know if the Reds were up by 10, down by 10 or tied ! If Pete had 3 hits, he wanted 4, 4...he wanted 5. And you NEVER saw the man NOT bust his ass down the line even on routine pop ups or grounders. And we all know you see a lot of that nowdays !
Rose also bet as a a player. They have evidence going back to 1978 supposedly (MLB). Pete is an addict and never got help. However, once MLB signed a deal w/the MGM Grand Sportsbook and allowed teams to sign local deals, their opposition to Rose's candidacy was rank hypocrisy. Put him in. Plus, Bonds and Clemens.
The problem with this point is Rose broke a rule where he knew what the punishment was. It's not like he made a mistake one night and placed a bet on his team. He placed hundreds of bets on baseball for years. Pete Rose kept doing that knowing if he ever got caught he would be banned for life. The poster boy was Joe Jackson who had a Hall of Fame career too. What more did Pete need to see to know what would happen to him? Just because baseball signs a deal with the MGM, that doesn't mean they are saying "ok players go out and bet on our games now." It makes for an arguing point, but it doesn't mean much in Rose's case. Rose has only himself to blame on where he is, and his apologies are very shallow and he's still not truthful about it all.
@@roland7584 Hi Rolan, all great points. Well said. Yes, his admissions are very shallow. He is a degenerate, not doubt about it. The guy admitted to statutory rape. No saving this guy. But I will always think that MLB's embrace of gambling is a disgrace, based on the history of the game. They are helping to spread an addiction. Beer companies help spread addiction and also don't embrace 0 tolerance laws, which would help. People are responsible for their own actions, but why facilitate an environment that makes it easier to break the law/rules? It is hypocrisy. What is the difference between a drug dealer on the street and a sportsbook? Or a beer company? Or big Pharma?
Pete Rose should 100% be in the Hall of Fame. With that said, I can't stand the argument that he only bet as a manager and in doing so, only bet on his team to win. Come on, let's use some common sense here. Is it possible that's true, yes, but is it likely? In my opinion he absolutely bet as a player and he probably made any bet that he thought would net him a monetary win. None of that should keep him out of the Hall of Fame as a player, but he brought this on himself and the attempts to diminish how bad the gambling was make him less sympathetic.
@@dpdip Great take, DP. Yes, I agree he did bet as a player. We now know the first investigation into his gambling lasted for years, but MLB chose to do nothing (cocaine became the bigger sin). And I also agree he probably bet against his team. He was a degenerate. No doubt about that; one of the worst cases of an inveterate gamblers I've ever seen.
How? If I knew my coach was betting on my team to win or if I was betting on my own team I’d be even more passionate and push harder to win. It’s obviously wrong what he did, but he has served his time.
Oj Simpson, murdered two people he's still in the NFL hall. Babe Ruth, was a very known RACIST he's still in the hall. David Ortiz, tested positive for PED'S and he still got in. So baseball has it's dirt for sure so we can go on and on guys do ur research!
@@terenceturner8201 This is a case totally about Pete Rose and no one else. If you want to start a campaign to get OJ Simpson out of the NFL Hall of Fame I'd be all for that too. If you want to get Babe Ruth out of the Hall of Fame for his racism, then start that campaign too. If you want David Ortiz out for his steroid use, then go ahead and start that campaign. Other peoples' issues are not the items that should be the basis of what gets Pete Rose in, but they are good points on what should keep people out. David Ortiz never broke any rule that states you will be permanently ineligible and either did Babe Ruth. Pete Rose did break a rule that states that and the way he handled the entire mess (that he created) has gotten him to where he is today...outside of the Hall of Fame. Now go and do your research on Simpson, Ruth, and Ortiz and get your campaigns going to get them out.
The rule is posted in every locker room and Rose knew it. Gambling nearly killed baseball. Disagree about Rose wanting more money by not getting in . . . He wants in, his playing more than deserves it . . . but I agree, he doesn't get in until Joe Jackson does
Won't happen. I just checked the calendar and today is still in range for a permanent ban in Major League Baseball. Tomorrow seems to be in that range too. I'll let you know when a date shows up when a permanent ban expires.
Pete Rose should have been immediately reinstated the first time MLB was televised on a Bally Sports network. To pretend they still care about gambl...We interrupt this post for a word from Caesers....gambling is just a frigging joke.
Listen, Houston Astros kept their 2017 rings. Baseball is TAINTED (to put it in perspective, baseball is BROKEN). Pete Rose is a HoF. The stereoid era players should go into HoF then. Reinstated the status of Shoeless Joe. When I see justice served when Astros removed from the 2017 championship, then we talk about JUSTICE (Note: for the record, I am NOT a Dodgers fan).
Every time the sports news gets slow this issue gets dusted off and brought out to fill up the time until something happens. He gambled. He’s out. Forever
I don't think Reggie bush(bush didn't cheat he took what was offered to him and now college athletes get paid....so Should he get it back now that times have changed...yes...same with pete....both school and hall of Fame profited from both players. give them their day)should have the Heisman taken anymore than Pete should be in the Hall of Fame. Now everyone keeps moving the goal posts to convince themselves Pete doesn't belong in the Hall. Assuming he bet as a player because he did as a coach is irresponsible. You don't know. Can I assume coaches made less than players because they do now. When in the past most coaches made more than players in the past.
Baseball is the only sport not to have their greatest players in the HOF…also Patrick just another crooked guy in a suit who knows nothing about being a professional athlete
Pete Rose will be in the high baseball Hall of Fame when he dies he’s been penalized from baseball for life the penalty will be over with when he dies then he’ll go into the Hall of Fame
Yeah I agree. I do agree with Dan though if their was ever proof that he gambled as a player then I can’t put him in but if we are inducting him as a player and he bet as a manager I think you can put him in. And I feel like at this point if you put him in nobody will care in that you’re not going to get people protesting it.
Oh but rock raines was just as good as Tony gwynn, of not better, war tells you that. Just like abreau is just as good as Vlad. You don't believe it, look up their war. This is why these types of players are making the hall. Because of a flawed stat like war.
i don't agree with what pete rose did betting on baseball and all but what gets me is the fact that mlb didn't come up with the rule banning ineligible players from the hall of fame until after he agree to his ban. I also feel that he should be in because he didn't compromise the integrity of the game unlike bonds clemens sosa mcgwire etc. they should be placed on the ineligible list for compromising the integrity of the game.
@@terrytitus5291 exactly he knew about all of it and didn't do anything until people started expressing out rage over it then he hired mitchell to investigate kind of reminds me of the movie 8 men out when commiskeys attorney suggested an investigation because they had to appear to be leading it. just to make him look clean in the matter. that's all it was
@@rossdilworth3412 again I"m not saying i agree with what he did because I don't but as far as we all know he didn't bet on the reds to lose that would be compromising the integrity of the game obviously he played to win the game. so i don't see where he compromised the integrity of the game. the steroid cheats on the other hand cheated to break records. that's where i see the difference.
@@danielcorreard3746 It doesn't matter if you bet for your team to lose or win. It compromises the very credibility of the game. He's not getting in, so this argument is pointless.
Pete Rose would have made alot of money as a Hall of Famer. The Hall is going to put in Garvey and Rose after they die, perhaps Luis Tiant.Remember clean boy image with Garvey, the Hall voters will never let him live it down!!!
I think he should be in and I think he’ll get in eventually. Betting in sports has opened up much more recently and unlike 1919, baseball and sports no longer have a bad reputation when it comes to betting. I think the league will eventually realize this and lift the ban, but I think that’s only if betting on sports is allowed federally because then the morality of betting no longer is bad.
He didn't make that claim. He said he believes he bet as a player but there's no proof. So he made no claim. The only claim he did make during that part of the clip was that he knew Pete was making bets through the same bookie as his. He didn't say he knew Pete was making baseball bets though. He only knew that he was making bets through the same bookie. The funny thing is though, there is proof that he bet when he was a player. The proof came out in 2015 when they disclosed a notebook with bets of Pete's from games from the 1986 season.
MLB didn't celebrate him throughout the whole thing. He couldn't even get a job even though he could still hit better than 85% of the league. At worst case, he'd have been a great DH for the last few years of his career in the AL and would have gotten to 800 hrs. No one seemed to make as much noise for Bonds during that time but somehow Pete Rose is still a story 30+ years later for doing something that clearly states you will be out of baseball forever.
They've got 100 things in baseballs hof so they should take everything down if the committee feels like that Next to ty cobb to get a single I ll take pete and manny Mota to bat lol
First of all - people need to realize we are only talking about an official declaration and bust of Pete Rose in the HOF. Pete is in the HOF in many ways: His bat, uniform, pictures during record-setting moments are all in the Hall. I say NO - he cannot be officially let in because he broke a sacred cardinal rule - in which all players know full well the punishment if they break the said rule. With that said - none of the steroid fools should ever get in - for the same reasons.
@@TheSacred55 It was clear. It was The Cream and The Clear. The problem though is there was no rule permanently banning anyone from baseball for doing them. I'm not saying they should get in, but Pete's rule definitely says he can't get in.
@@rj-vj8gr You can forgive on a personal level, if the person is remorseful, but that doesn't mean you just allow all evil to be rewarded -- that's an entire misreading of faith.
People Pretend That Pete Rose Committed Some Brutal Crime by Betting on His Team as a Manager and Should be Banned for LIFE from Hall of Fame...Why?...Because of What Some SIGN says in a Locker Room?...Grow up and Get off Your High Horse
Should Pete Rose be in the Hall of Fame? Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes , Yes , yes, yes .yes, yes!!! Baseball is the toughest sport to excel at the major league level there is so much competition. The difference between the best player in the majors and the best player in the minors is so small. We need heroes that played their hearts out. Gambling never affected Rose's play not even 1% negatively. Chewing tobacco is a lot worse.
Doesn’t matter if Rose didn’t bet his team to win or lose he gambled while active. He knew the rules and was an AVID gambler. He himself took this lifetime ban
If Pete bet didn’t bet on the Reds when certain guys started or faced certain pitchers then it’s giving a bookie the hint that he doesn’t expect to win
