One would think so but I have tried this conversation with parents and grandparents and they refuse to say no, and then blame everyone else when things go awry. No under 13 needs a smartphone or public internet access. Parents are dim and lazy unfortunately. And yes, generally this is govs seeing a route to control info for adults more than 'caring for children'.
The youth can't be banned from social media.. they must use computer tech as part of their knowledge base so it must come down to self discipline knowing how to navigate life in an online world
😂Most people, young or old, have not a clue about IT or tech they are just dumb consumers. This is an excuse lazy parents and groomers make... It is obvious most learn very little from ownership of smartphones or internet access!
The government’s bill isn’t working. There needs to be a complete ban on any pornography on Facebook, Snapchat, instagram, X and any social media. Also it’s so easy to access porn on the internet now if parents are not actively protecting their children from this. Trying to implement a ban on owning a mobile phone on under 16’s is not going to work. You need to tackle any problem at root cause. If porn and social media wasn’t easy to access there wouldn’t be this problem.
This one isn't up to the State - it's up to the parents. We need better ways of dealing with bullying and a healthier society, not more government control.
I'd be fine with a content screening service so long as it sticks to blocking uploads containing vile language, pornographic, or violent content. We don't need any more canceling of political, religious, or scientific interests.
I think get rid of tik tok, instagram, block the soft porn that is already on Facebook, Snapchat, X and even the likes of eBay. I think wipe it off the internet completely because it does more harm than good and never should be there in the first place.
One more law to make you all feel better. What makes you think you can stop teenagers seeing a ban as a challenge, and finding lots of ways around it? Do better.
@@Englishman999 Umm the OP. “One more law” suggests the futility of ongoing lawmaking except when it comes to certain issues people of a certain ilk will be happy to pile on the legislation. Eg, the race relations act wasn’t sufficient so we add the equalities act and so on.
@miriamcatesmp7139 ok im american but like as a teenager, like social media you could make a case for (i'd be against it but you could make a case for it) but smartphones? come on, this is 2024 not 1824! like idk anything about your politics or what your goal is but come on also like...maybe dont ban social media instead regulate it? idk seems like pretty common sense to me
