The Nitty Gritty: What's up everyone, I’m that guy Osiris and today we are going to be talking about Lab Diamonds. Lab diamond's popularity has been booming and People keep asking me what my opinion is on them and if they are worth it. Today we are going to dive in on the topic, give you my personal take and some tips on how to buy them. Learn about HTHP Diamonds and CVP methods for creating lab diamonds
The number one question I get is are lab diamonds "real" diamonds. The answer is yes. So please don't confuse them with a fake diamond like a Cubic Zirconia.
A lab diamond is "grown" inside a lab using tech that replicates the conditions needed for a natural diamond to grow. They are grown in weeks compared to a few billion years, so If you have the time to wait for a new nature diamond go for it! The Lab diamond is physically, chemically and optically the same as a mined natural diamond. Here are two side by side. Can you spot the difference? I’ll wait
My Personal Take, I see lab created diamonds in a positive light. They have their place in diamond alternatives. Its a great earth friendly option that's budget friendly. Lets look at the most obvious positive. PRICE. Lets compare these 2 carat diamonds side by side. Wow. Talk about bang for buck! Its hard to unsee this.

@luke184lisa Moissanite is its own gem. The discovery by Henri Moissan in a meteorite led to the synthesis of the mineral Silicon Carbide. (SiC) Diamonds are carbon😊 I have both. Moissanite is fiery, full of beautiful color, and has over 2.5 x light dispersion than diamond. An excellent cut, colorless, 2+ carat HPHT LGD is an achievable dream. I will say that the fire, brilliance, and color of Moissanite had me spoiled before I received my LGD🤩

You did an excellent job, keeping it simple for just about anyone not familiar with diamonds to understand the difference between a mother, nature mind diamond, and a lab diamond, and or as I’d like to call them above ground diamonds. I’ve been in the retail jewelry business for 25 years and I when these first hit the market , I thought that it was the end of this industry! And now, it is the strongest part of my business. Lab diamonds are synthetic, because they are synthesized through chemical synthesis. Natural diamonds are also synthetic, but they were synthesized naturally through the effects of gravity (heat and pressure). Definition of synthesis: a : the composition or combination of parts or elements so as to form a whole b : the production of a substance by the union of chemical elements, groups, or simpler compounds or by the degradation of a complex compound c : the combining of often diverse conceptions into a coherent whole also : the complex so formed
@LeahElisheva
@LeahElisheva Месяц назад
@@mikehawk6918 I know. But in the diamond world, synthesized diamond means something that looks like a diamond, but has different chemical properties. Like moissanite. On the other hand, lab created diamonds are of the same chemical composition as raw diamonds.

Your refreshingly accurate. You did not discuss the pitfalls of resale of created diamonds. Many over the counter diamond buyers try to rip off customers telling them there is no value in the secondary market when the percentages are the same if they are honest. We repurchase them at the same percentage below cost as mined diamonds. We can not however make up for overcharged purchases they made. Fellow GIA grad

I think I would differ. The whole point of the diamond business is rarity. Natural diamonds are rarer (can be debated) than the lab grown ones. So naturally, it will be expensive. Its like buying an authentic Rembrant and a oil color printed version of Rembrant. To the eyes and quality, it seems same and its artistic value is the same as well. But one would wonder, why someone pays millions for an authentic Rembrant and just a few bucks for the printed version?

So nice to see someone say Diamonds are NOT an investment. This is absolutely true for a VAST majority of Engagement ring buyers. Regardless of whether it's a Lab or Mined diamond, you will Absolutely lose money trying to re-sell. And IMO it will be at LEAST a 50% loss for a mined diamond...usually it's closer to a 60-75% loss. And for a Lab diamond, retailers say there is no value in them whatsoever, and therefore no market for them. All lies, A jeweler/retailer will absolutely tell you your lab diamond is worth nothing, and just try to pay you for the metal...Then turn around sell that Lab diamond for as close to Lab market value or above if he/she can get it. ESPECIALLY if the diamond is a well cut certified Lab diamond with paperwork.

I’m currently getting a lab grown diamond ring custom made by someone after doing a lot of research and then finding a stone and after going to a jewelry store and seeing how they push what they actually referred to as “real” (meaning natural” diamonds and then slipping and calling lab grown fake, it cemented that I’m going lab grown and custom from now own and maybe never going back in a store for anything other than a much smaller purchase. The attitude and markup anyway, even in small family owned stores, is insane. The look on their face when I casually mentioned the makeup of lab vs natural diamonds was priceless 😅

Hey there... When you actually compare the price of purchase and reselling , there is a vast difference for sure. Here still when we talk about cvd of hpht it feels as if you are talking about cubic zirconia, its kind of a taboo subject. But long story short, i believe cvd and hpht is the future... wouldn’t the extra supply of lab diamonds, and ongoing optimization of their manufacture, eventually make the initial purchase of the lab diamond go down in value? I honestly would not care. Happy to hear my videos have been helpful. There are large chats about this topic. Gold is seen as a very long term investment. But more from the pure gold bullion buying. Would you say Middle-Eastern gold is a great investment? I noticed gold in America or Europe, mostly sell 14k or 18k but quality is different than Arab countries' gold. I understand that it can be due to mixing the raw medals to the gold, using high quality vs low rated medals.

@OsirisDiamonds 2 года назад
Gold,no matter what origin, will be priced to its value weather it’s 14 karat 10 karat 18 karat or 24 karat the value will always be the same. The only difference is you will be paid out a different price point depending the karat. If one ounce of pure 24 karat gold is valued at $1800 you will not be receiving that value if you bring a diluted 10k gold chain.

I'm in Malaysia at the moment, and over here, the gold shops have the current gold price listed on the wall. When you buy something, they basically weigh it and charge you that price plus a designer's fee, which is usually pretty low. But if you go to the jewellers in the mall, they just have a price for the item, so I assume there's a much bigger markup compared to the price of the gold itself.

I moved to selling lab grown 10 years ago before all the big stores started selling them… when they used to have gray tones. They’ve come a long way in quality since those days. Hi Jeff, thanks for the comment. I have never heard of them so I cant give an answer. From a quick glance on their site they dont have images of their goods. This is already a red flag and I would disregard them. You can find my preferred vendors on my site-www.diamondcityonline.com

What are your thoughts on the GemEx light performance certification, as well as using the ASET Scope to evaluate a diamond?
@nikiryan8648
@nikiryan8648 Год назад
I have tried to get James Allen and Blue Nile to provide me with at least aset scope....both refused. If I am going to spend 20,000 on a stone, I want to see it before it SHIPS. They do offer free returns and refunds, they are hoping you will never scope the stone and just keep it rather than go thru the hassle of return.

This video was great and I was about to purchase from grown brilliance and I asked them specifically how they were made. They really went the roundabout way to answer my question it really irritated me so I knew it was not your preferred method. If they just come out and said what I asked I would have probably still maybe bought from them but after that I was done.

The value of diamonds is completely artificial- like that’s true to an extent with most things, but it’s especially true for diamonds- they aren’t really rare, they can be made in a lab, and unless you’re using it for cutting things, it has no purpose but to be pretty AND LAB GROWN DIAMONDS ARE PRETTY They do literally the only thing diamonds are good for so what is the problem with them??

Great video. I’m a natural stone collector. People want to buy d e f vvs if labs. They want diamonds that look like diamonds and at better quality ags 0 light performance. Me I like vanadium green chrysoberyls with red flashes, borderline alexandrite. If people want resale value then I always say buy “gold” even natural stones when sold by a consumer get maybe 30 percent of what they payed. Like all things.

I buy my diamonds at a Second Hand local coin and jewelry store. Will my natural diamonds I buy hold their value if I'm paying wholesale prices? For example $900 for a H color, .92 carat, SI2 or 3, good or very good cut?
@JLT3
@JLT3 5 месяцев назад
Why would the resale value be dependent on the price you paid? An example you stated for one carat diamond the cut and clarity and size was the exact same? Thanks for taking my question.

what is the difference in HPHT type II type IIa or IIb
@maximhollandnederlandthene7640
Mostly all diamonds you buy will be worth a fraction when you sell them. Stones under 0,50 carat are included in the scrapgold weight price of the Jewel. Only the real big stones can make chance to be sold for a reasonable price.

Could you please discuss light performance. I want to purchase a lab grown diamond based on political and environmental (power cost vs mining). However, that sparkle is difficult to assess on line. GIA does not list cut grade only cut description. Thank you.

Lab grown diamond have more “fire” so if you’re looking for more sparkle and especially less money, that’s definitely the way to go. In the quiet, where did the prophet Hannah Montana “you get the best of both worlds”

I bought 1.00 ct lab grown diamond with IGI certified. E color, ideal cut, VS1 only $1000. It tests diamond, it looks beautiful as a diamond. I save a lot of money. If you buy natural diamond for the same range may be you pay around $8000 dollars when you sell it back you will lose at least 35-40% from what you purchased. So, what is the deal for natural diamond?
