We've had ours remapped, and have been very happy with the outcome. But, is it something you should consider? #rangerover #rangeroverl322 #remapped

It could be a ticking time bomb, or it might not.

The main reason for the "non-optimal" tuning from the manufacturer is related to NOx. If you tune a modern diesel to burn most effectively, it implies higher combustion temperatures. And high combustion temps creates a bit more NOx molecules, which is related to increased risk of cancer. This is mostly a problem in the cities, not so much along the highways and out in the bush, where you live.

Yep I agree i have an 2002 td6 I done an egr delete and stripped the injectors and cleaned the inlet and new vacuum lines the difference was quite surprising I get good mpg ind it goes well enough for me the way I drive these days. Re mapping depends on so many things like mileage age how its been driven looked after etc but most important as you say is how you drive thrash an un mapped car wont last ,but a remap can give you better response that you can actually use less power keep up the good work

Hi Ben I have both l332 3.6 & 4.4 tdv8 both mapped stage one egr dpf removed fully .on both I do a lot miles in both no problems with gear or turbos All ways let them warm up and cool down. The 6 speed is stronger than the 8 . Fully gut the dpf you gain 60nm and 20bhp . And an even better throttle response and quicker turbo spool less back pressure is better for the turbos

Rare to see a 3.6 fitted with DPF, it was an option that very few chose...

Really enjoyed this Ben. My 2007 TDV8 has just over 150'000 miles with excellent service history. It had a stage 1 remap on it when I bought it a few years ago. It still has it's egr valves which i am thinking of removing very soon. I drive it like yourself as I'm always keen to keep to max mpg, I just give it a bit of a motorway squirt very occasionally and only on a rolling basis. I too am going to service the gear box shortly as the last time was just before I bought it. I will look forward to your vid on that if you do one soon. All the best to you both ..........

I've got a 2012 4.4TDV8 L322, EGR deleted, DPF dropped and drilled re fitted, stage 1 engine map, gear box is 8 sp ZF stage 3, rated for 1000NM currently at 800NM so still safe. Service regulary and I'm getting 40mpg easily... breaths right, drives smoothly and pulls well... 👌 recommend it
@Bensgarage
@Bensgarage 7 месяцев назад
Out of curiosity, what has been changed on your gearbox to make it 1000nm. I know it can handle that when fitted to other cars, but wasn’t sure what was different inside.
@jeremyrolland9996
@jeremyrolland9996 7 месяцев назад
@Bensgarage sorry Ben typo, the gear box can cope up to 1000NM however mine is mapped up to 800NM leaving a safety factor, stop the gear box running to hot and melting internally 🤣
@Bensgarage
@Bensgarage 7 месяцев назад
The ZF 8 speed fitted in the 4.4TDV8 is only rated to 700nm, in other applications it can handle up to 1000. Just not in the Range Rover.

Strange to hear this, all the work has been done by Landranger in Deeside a Landrover 4x4 specialist, mine is running at 800NM done 15k since the works and all runs smoothly 👍
@Bensgarage
@Bensgarage 7 месяцев назад
As I said in the video, if you drive like a normal person and don't do too may drag strip set offs, you should be fine. My 3.6 TDV8 gearbox is rated at 600NM, the car puts out 640 as standard. Now I'm at 750 NM after the re=map, and like you never had an issue. But yeah, the RR L322 had the ZF 8HP70 (1st gen) gearbox fitted and that's rated at 700nm or 516 ft lb.

My 2007 tdv8 has 420000km. Turbos and gearbox still original. Converter has been changed. When i am towing 3,5t my iid tool shows 640nm Engine shows no signs of wear and idles fine when starting in -25c

The TD6 GM box is actually a very good box, but as you say the engine is a bit too powerful for it. The consequence of this is that it eats torque converters! From new they last about 100k miles. You can now get better torque converters with better plates which should last 200k. The reason a lot of these cars are scrapped is because a lot of gearbox reconditioners will charge around £3000 to fit a reconditioned box and converter so people just scrap or sell the car on cheap! I have bought a few L322 like this and fixed them myself for around £350. The TD6 can handle a Map with a better torque converter. Mine has a full stainless exhaust and Map and is a lot faster and better fuel economy than my standard TD6.
@Bensgarage
@Bensgarage 7 месяцев назад
Our old TD6 started showing signs of failure at about 135,000miles, but that was too far gone (both subframes corroded) to bother fixing it.
@DavidMSA
@DavidMSA 7 месяцев назад
Do you have the reference of that torque converter that can last 200k?
@tristanboler2782
@tristanboler2782 7 месяцев назад
Hey Ben, very timely as considering this for 2024 on my 4.4 TDV8. Although, believe there is an economy map, rather than a full stage 1 with less power and torque increases. Would get egr blanked electronically and think about also getting DPF physical and electronically removed to help engine breathe as you say. MOT last week, no advisories, and nice little road trip up to Norwich and back this weekend including the occasional spirited drive to spin up the 2nd turbo. All running well and a lovely place to be on a road trip. Be good to see ur gearbox service, had mine mega flushed soon after I got mine a few years back now - 119k miles now and going strong. 🤞😂

Just having a massive reshuffle in the garage, then should be getting it in to do the gearbox service, I’ve had the bits for a while so I really need to crack on.

I’ve just had my gearbox flushed so being cautious- if it ain’t broke etc- unrelated but those seat covers are perfect just what I need as an anti dog slobber treatment. Where did you get them from if I may?
@Bensgarage
@Bensgarage 7 месяцев назад
The seat covers are one of the best things we bought for the RR, I got them here and went for the OEM equipment (INKA) rather than genuine: www.lrparts.net/vplms0087sva-waterproof-rear-seat-covers-in-sand-for-range-rover-l322-from-2009-2012.html

Had my '06 TDV8 3.6 remapped and EGR delete, never looked back. The 5.0 Supercharged uses the 6 speed ZF because the 8 speed couldn't handle the torque.

Hi matey after having it remapped is that causing the problems u have had with the triangle of doom keep coming up and putting u in limp mode
@Bensgarage
@Bensgarage 7 месяцев назад
No, totally unrelated. It’s either an electrical signal not getting through or a boost leak, either on a hose or possibly (hopefully not) the rocker cover.

Hi Ben great video as usual..when are you going to fit mudflaps to the Rangie as it looks naked without them😳😁🤣🤣

Probably never, I'm not too keen on the look of mud flaps, and knowing me I'm likely to rip them off while off roading.

Hi bro ! Got a L322 overfinch style 3.6 (2008) 6 gearbox...everytine i star the engine got a sound an a message on the screen ( motor failure) 114.000 Kilometres not miles ! If i repam do you think is gonna disappear this message? I know it came from one turbo ,passager side one ! 🤔 Thinking in remap mine... cheers! I am living in Spain

I guess it's because the cars are getting so heavy, they need a bit of power to move them.
@JohnBaxendale
@JohnBaxendale 7 месяцев назад
Power increases are largely pointless (it's limited at 120mph anyway), but torque increases make for a more drivable car, especially one that weighs 2.7 tonnes! ;)
