I use ABS personally. I always bleed of the brakes as I slow down to help rotate the car better into the corner, I find it harder to do that with abs off but ultimately whatever you're more comfortable with is what you should use but I would encourage people to try both out.
I have mixed feelings about ABS. I play with it on, but I KNOW I'd get better lap times without it. When I raced with it turned off, when I got it right, it was so much more satisfying. BUT... I game on my phone with a razer kishi v2. And the analog sticks and triggers don't have very much travel. So there's such a fine line between no brakes and locked brakes and no steering input to left/right lock that turning things like simulation steering on and ABS off essentially turned Motorsport into a drifting/donut simulator. If I had one of those dope racing rigs, I'd probably turn all assists off
ABS Off in this game is *WEEEEIRD* It’s a mix of Motorsport and Horizon 5. No matter the pressure on the left trigger it always a locks up the brakes every single time.
@@yeezyszn7208have you tried zeroing out your dead zones? It's one tab further than controller settings under advance controller settings. It helped me get somewhere near consistent controlled scrub/proper threshold braking. Also brakes matter a lot more in this game than Horizon 5 from what I can tell. But I could be wrong, I rarely drove with stock brakes in Horizon.
@@ghostghostbusters789 No reason to have mixed feelings at all. Human braking has not been able to beat ABS for decades now. Even when ABS was first invented it was still better than the human foot and was outright banned because of the massive advantages that it gave. Forza's assists are straight up fake.
Your video made me start playing around with ABS on vs off in Forza Motorsport 8, and what I found was that... there's no difference if you're used to NOT using ABS. The good thing about turning on ABS is that you no longer risk locking up your brakes. My conclusion... there is ZERO reason not to turn on ABS. You're still slightly faster if you don't fully dip into the ABS zone.
Played the first few hours with ABS on, kept flying off the track on sharp turns, turned it off and now I'm way faster on turns. Kinda doesn't make sense tbh, there's a reason why ABS is standard in pretty much every car made today, but I guess Forzas version of ABS gives you more control over the car on gamepad
tons of race cars use abs now , and its not your regular abs like a passenger car. GT3 cars for example have very advanced abs systems and TC systems that have various settings that are adjustable on the fly.
I use the wheel and don't have abs or traction. I find it more satisfying to ocationally lock up momentarily and bleed off to re rotate the wheel. You also get a brief vibration on the wheel and it's much more realistic and imersive
one thing I'm trying to do that I didn't in previous games, is (With ABS off) Then you can still brake 100% at high speeds then slowly let off the brakes as you feel them close to locking up
I’m liking the game so far, but disincentivizing playing on harder difficulties seems like an odd choice to me. Maybe it’s more realistic that ABS wouldn’t penalize you, but as a person who has braking line and normal steering as my only assists, it’s disappointing to see that all the time I’ve spent developing skills with throttle control, threshold braking, etc is sort of going out the window in a sense.
Yeah I get what you mean, but I still feel knowing about threshold braking will help you because you'll understand keeping a car balanced better than someone who just smashes the brakes to 100% at every corner.
I think the idea is the make casuals more competitive and safer (not tempting them with credits to turn of assists). I have ABS on as a safety net, but try not to use it. Self-admitted casual as it gets.
I agree with ya. Take away from the serious and give it to the casuals, this seems to be the new motto for this entry into the series. Not a fan personally, but I'm sure some the more casual crowd will love it. Faster times for them with no extra effort. Majority of the fan base is casual so their happiness is alot more important.
I noticed massive amounts of understeer when using ABS early on in the game and immediately turned off and haven't looked back. I p[lay on a wheel and found it much easier to trail brake without ABS, which could kick in on light braking while trail braking. I'm finding it pretty easy to find out the different lock up points of different cars. Forza seems to do a good job of that. Definitely seems to come down to tire grip. Thus average speed GT and Prototype cars with massive aero and huge tires can use a bunch much brake than an old muscle car with a willowy suspension. But in on the Forza GT cars, locking up becomes a pretty big risk as the tires wear off if you are doing something like a no stop strategy in multiplayer. But even then I could tell right away from the FFB and adjusted.
Same here, using a load cell brake pedal I found that it was easier to control my braking without ABS. I do still wish they had implemented a "factory setting" option so that you would race wih how the car normally runs in real life.
Im also playing on some load cell pedal, disabling ABS made a big change. Braking is still the bad part of the game as i can only use like 20% of the force i would normaly use lol
This is my main problem with FM8 using a wheel on PC like shown in 04:30 .. all the cars just want to murder me in heavy breaking zones. I have been struggeling with this for days and always tought it was the ffb settings while using a wheel. I will play around with the amount of brake force and turning abs on/off and will see. It is driving me bonkers!
Bro what they should have done was some training modes where they can show all players that turning assists off requires more player skills + increases risk and therefore is rewarded with faster lap time potential. Baffles me that they can think shit like this is good for the game, but doesn't surprise me after they added V8 supercars to the GTs
We’re talking about racecars here not civilian cars… racecars do have ABS. Most of the drivers just dont use it. But not totally. they can kind of turn it on and off inside the car. Depending on what their goal is in the track during a race…
I race with ABS off and it's great. ABS in Forza 7 was garbage as well as the traction control. I have kept it off in Motorsport. I think it is just more fun being able to slide into the occasional corner or flick the rear end out and drift a bit if I want.
Im an ABS user, maybe an ABS abuser to many, and able to keep up at least with the best in the community. it was the same in FH5. I was very much expecting to have to learn ABS off for FM8 as id expect ABS to be slower but as you have demonstrated and from my own gameplay it isnt. My driving style is very integrated into ABS and I am very confident with using cars such as hydra's rs3 tune, there is a certain sweet spot with turn in rotation where u dont get the rear coming out, and I bleed off the brakes towards the apex just like people without ABS. I hope that people who watch this video feel less discouraged if they use ABS, there is nothing wrong with it :)
So in any Forza game I just full on turn off all the assist like all of them and in general, I am my own ABS in way. Like I basically fell out the brakes and know it’s about lock up and hold it there the reason why I have it off in general is so I can actually lock up. And sometimes when I am going super fast into a corner, I just lock up and then I’m slow enough to take that corner or I would just slam it and release and slam and release and it works for me. 😊👍
I find it unfortunate that they are trying to take away advantages of learning your car so to speak. Always liked how abs worked because it incentivized you to get better and turn it off to get better lap times. I remember I didn't learn to stop using abs until fm5 and it was so gratifying. Took forever but was worth it because you got rewarded with better lap times and car control. Just glad no abs has some advantage still. But the way things are going, we are all going to be running automatics and abs on by the next title 😂. Imagine they make tcs so good down the road that we just start running that too, lmao. Assist for days.
To achieve equality and "fairness", the skilled, talented people must be punished to protect the feelings of the inferior. Just like in the economy to bring about equality we must make everyone poor in the lower class and rely on government aid to get by.
With abs it's realism and makes it more compatible with players coming from other games. Personally as a GT player I always found it kinda stupid that people in Forza always used no abs when driving primarily race cars that have abs.
Even if you’re using full abs you need to not mash on the brakes 75% is 75% you need to do 75% for both and you will see the difference. It’s mainly the point on where you think abs makes your car turn. It’s just incorrect
as from the like many many races ive done so far i seem to go though tires in the tc cars at the same time as everyone else who is running same pace with same car similar tune. but im running abs and they are not. but a more deep dive into it might be worth it.
Lock up has never been linked to brake input percentage. Lock up is based off of the cars weight, suspension, speed, tire width, tire compound, temperature of the tire and track along with the input. Saying that lock up happens at 75% input is not correct because all cars are different, with tunes, and conditions factoring In. On top of that if you tune your cars just adjust you brake pressure within the tune to suit the behavior of the car and you don’t have to worry about limiting your brake input.
True but for the most part, it doesn't vary much. 75% is a solid number he used. I tune many kinds of cars and I put them all to 160% bp and for the most part, I'm putting in the same amount of braking into all of them. May vary slightly every now and then but typically I'm braking the same and I'm still right under that threshold. I could run 20 completely different cars with varying weight, distribution of said weight and tires and that sweet spot is typically going to be right about the same.
I'm now trying to transition to abs off and I cant work out how I get the time back that I loose breaking earlier than usual. I'm a little more stable on exit but not always
I use ABS on in this game (certain cars I turn it off) because I'm used to sims. Locking the brakes in forza is nowhere near as intuitive as a sim so I cant grasp it. I find that abs in in this game still isn't effective enough to not require trail braking and such. It reminds me of how ABS works in ACC. More of a safety net just in case than something to lean on constantly if you're braking optimally anyway.
You mention 75% is your max desired braking % for you. if you tune your brakes to 75% pressure, wouldn't you then be able to just max your brakes and have same outcome?
@@WhiteCranK I used to mess around with 90% pressure in FH4, but now im using a sim racing set-up with my clutch pedal mapped as my brakes. I have fallen in love with the long action on the pedal that really really helps with precision while tail braking.
This sounds like a good idea indeed. But i don't get how people can brake with the left foot ^^ except when i'm driving a kart, otherwise i'm not able to do so haha. @@Baalzz302
@@Eat-MyGoalprobably because they brake way too soon. That braking line will mess you up sometimes, goes red very early in alot of cases, causing some players who use it to brake too soon. Common thing to see in lobbies.
Do you use that 'finger method' for modulating your throttle as well? I've been practicing with every assisit off, steering and ABS were not hard to get used to. That said, with TC off, I somehow find it quite tricky to avoid slipping once I start accelerating out of a corner. I seem to have less of this issue with modern high down force cars and cars with good tunes, but I'm trying to figure out whether this is a git gud issue or just car dependant.
Is tuning hard or am I stupid. Have I sucked and been ignorant this whole time or did the "stock" tunes on previous Forza games just drive a lot better.
I turned abs off after the first race and i must say braking feeling much better, tires don't lock up as much so I recommend getting use to no abs, also tune your brakes, if your car has bad brakes or if your bad at braking go up to 150% and tune down, if you have good brakes or are good at braking go to 80% and tune up
I had abs on and watching my career race replays it seemed like i was locking up for almost every corner, as if abs only works a bit. I'm now learning to brake better and hopefully will be able to turn abs off soon. Thanks for hte controller tip, it works for me. Another thought, why not just set break pressure in the setup to 75 or 80% or are there reasons you would want to brake more situationally?
I'm liking these changes. Abs and manual with clutch shouldn't be faster when driving race cars that literally have abs and no clutch shifting. Its always made racing in forza look kinda stupid to me as an outsider since its just a gimmicky way of adding skill that shouldn't exist. In old cars stuff like that should be faster though (although mwc on controller is a bit dumb)
real GT3 cars have an advanced abs that you can adjust and you are expected to foot down to brake, as you approach the bend obviously you start releasing the brake into the non locking range
GT3 cars in FM8 are horrible, I was having a great time playing the hot hatch playlist until I switched to GT3. Breaking doesn't make any sense, the cars have shitty downforce and there's too much understeer Every other sim feels way better in that category, GT7, ACC and Iracing.
Slightly off topic, but i was hoping to get some feedback or at least validation, i used the 04 m3 for te german enthusiast series with abs off and the braking was horrendous, backs locking before the fronts did much of anything, and i had to deal with it for 2 races until i unlocked brake upgrades and saw the its set at 60% rear bias for some reason. Maybe not flipped when they flipped the brake bias and its backwards now?
Had the same thing happen with me when I chose the M3 too. I couldn’t wait to unlock the brakes so I could fix the bias. Until then, braking was way tougher to manage than it should have been.
But what if I use ABS on but still don't brake 100% straight away? In real cars the ABS only comes into play if you step on the pedal or lose grip, if this is the case in the game too it should be a better method, because you can modulate braking without the ABS coming in but at the same time if you need it you can still press at 100% and use ABS
Thanks for the informative video. I have just started using a controller for the Xbox as I have been a wheel driver on PS racing in the F1 2023 MRC league in Europe weekly. Getting the hang of the controller however. Unfortunately my wheel is a G29 so It doesn’t support XBOx. Are you able to do a video on optimal controller settings ? Thanks.
i think this is a positive development cus trigger buttons on series controllers are too light. Because of that i still use my old Xbox One controller when i play racing games.
Can you still apply soft brake pressure even if ABS is on? I was doing a race yesterday, and the replay shows that my brakes lock up even though ABS is on.
ive always felt faster without ABS , able to stop better and not have that weird pulsating abs forza known to have . the ONLY thing i like about forza over GT7 is brakes . the cars stop so much better
Are the race cars slippery as they say? So far everyone says so and the only youtuber who has actual grip is Austin Ogonoski. He ran the 787B at Spa and he didn't slide at all. What's your experience?
No I don't think it's particularly bad, certainly less slippery than Gran Turismo, in my opinion. Most people I've spoken to agree it's the best Forza has ever felt
They are slippery with all assists off, almost as if the cars where programmed to run as they do in real life using Traction Control and ABS. I hope they update the game in the future to use this systems from a car to car basis.
I use abs online and no abs offline. I can threshold brake but one screwup online can really ruin someone else's race if I punt them off the track. Nice to know i won't be punished too much for that decision.
Hey, I'm having issues when turning into a corner. My issue is my front wheels are locking up when I'm turning the car into the corner using my analog stick. I'm using a PS5 controller when I'm racing. I'm playing Forza Motorsport on the PC. Just would some tips on the issue I'm having.
So... do I really understand this right... Turning ABS On / Off dont make any difference?! I prefer playing with ABS On - play with Controller and I´m not a pro.... often I use the brakes in corners while im steering... Most gamer I play with are saying... Turn ABS Off :D
Yeah its disappointing, the game hasn’t even been out a week yet and theres already cheating going on. I mean here in SA the people who didn’t bother with early access finally got to get into the game.
Has since changed gamertag to ‘WeSellCheats’. Honesty in advertising - who’d a thunk? BTW, you can watch a replay of his Maple Valley Corvette run. It’s much slower than posted time, he even stops before finish line
Depends on the car and conditions . Like for a D class car gotta have it on if need to brake from a high speed straight to a tight corner , else a crash is imminent but for a A class car not necessary
It depends, I have come close to my pad times on a wheel but it's FAR harder to drive with a wheel because of all the things going on in the background like controllers having inborne TCS. Using 20-30% throttle on a wheel can cause you to spin out, on a controller you can not even worry about throttle control a lot of the time and get away with it.
Forza 7 has no difference in terms of lock-up points. This video kind of annoys me, I'd like to see a small time advantage for those that put in the effort required to get consistent with ABS off.
Does anyone know the name of the guy he mentioned in this video when talking about the tune on the RS 3 touring car? Looking for a tune myself and for some reason i just can't find him at all on youtube hahaha....
@Andrew-jd1dt I started off in cockpit view and liked it but was chatting to Rory Alexander and he said chase view was better for controller. But I think maybe with this game, upgrades have more of an effect. I'm still getting used to it tbh.
@@1986Stein I use chase view, controller & normal steering. I just like to see the wheel when every so often because it will show how the car will respond.
For what it's worth, I've been struggling with steering too, because I've had such a long absence from the series so I have to get a lot of rust off. Also on controller with normal steering
That’s super interesting and I honestly had no idea. I’m definitely going to test it out in the GT cars later. Also, I’m not too concerned if ABS is going to help drivers become faster because ultimately that’s what I want. I want more people to get fast at the game so it makes me faster too. Never understood the weird elitism some drivers have when it comes to using assists or not.
The assist elitism is always annoying, and almost always comes from people who frankly don't have the skill to back it up but like to think they do because they drive "like a man"
Completely agree. In my experience, truly fast drivers usually just don't care one way or another.@@JustDevon Also great seeing your Forza videos pop back up on my feed. Feels like it's been ages.
@@noncog1 I try to run assists closest to what the actual race cars would have, and I’ve always ran ABS for that reason unless my car is older than the 80s or my race car is older than the 00s
Get in your Audi and go to find tunes, should be near the top, he has setups for all week 1s TC tracks. Might have to wait a bit for the new tracks. Gamertag is WIL Hydra
Classic Turn 10. - there's a setting that requires more skill and, as part of game evolution, they decide to no longer reward that skill with faster lap times because they want to appease the button mashers 🤡
Facts, getting to the point where it's getting kind of annoying. People using assists keep complaining that people who don't use assists are faster...like that's a bad thing somehow, lmao. Surprised we are allowed to tune in multiplayer lobbies with the way things are going.
