LEARN HOW TO MAKE AN EASY TOFU KATSU BURGER RECIPE AT HOME!
LAY HO MA! This burger is going to be your new BFF - it's crispy, crunchy, and with an Asian style slaw that will blow your mind! Join me in this episode and learn how to make a delicious panko crusted tofu katsu burger with a spicy mayo slaw. Let's begin
Ingredients:
140g extra firm tofu
40g purple cabbage
20g carrot
1/2 apple (fuji)
1/2 stick green onion
2 tbsp mayo ( • THICK vegan Mayo Recip... )
pinch of salt
tbsp sriracha
1/2 cup flour
1 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
splash of water
1/2 cup panko
2 burger buns
1 cup avocado oil
5g leafy greens
1 tsp white sesame seeds
Directions:
1. Slice the extra firm tofu block into thick patties
2. Thinly slice the purple cabbage. Slice the carrot and apple into thin matchsticks. Finely chop the green onion
3. Place the veggies into a bowl and mix together with the mayo, a pinch of salt, and sriracha. Set the slaw aside
4. Add the flour, soy sauce, and water to a small bowl. Whisk until it becomes a fairly thick consistency
5. Pour the panko into another small bowl
6. Dunk the tofu into the sticky flour mixture. Then, transfer the tofu to the panko and coat
7. Slice the burger buns in half and toast them in a dry frying pan on medium heat for about 1min on each side. Then, transfer them to a cooling rack
8. Add the avocado oil into the frying pan. Let the oil heat up for a few minutes. Stick in a bamboo chopstick - the oil is ready when there are fast moving bubbles
9. Carefully place in and fry the breaded tofu for about 2-3min on each side. Rest the tofu on a plate lined with paper towel
10. Assemble the burger by placing some leafy greens on the bottom bun. Then, add the tofu katsu followed by a generous scoop of the crunchy slaw. Sprinkle with some toasted sesame seeds and serve

I just made this tonight and I was very surprised how delicious it is! I'm 60 and became a vegetarian last year! I know it's not vegan but I'm very happy I made the switch. I even built myself 3 raised beds and started a garden which is great. I've made 2 of your Ramen dishes and they too were delicious. I'm very thankful for you and all you do! My daughters already know what I want for Christmas (your cookbooks) so I seriously can't wait!

I made this today for my family and we just finished our dinner. It was a beautiful combination. Even my meat lover 5 yr old munched down the tofu patty. We are transitioning into veganism and your channel has made it easy. We tried and loved the Cauliflower fried rice, Poke bowl, and fresh summer roles. All the dressing were amazing flavourful bombs 💥 My next goal is to make the chilli oil and try out the ramen. Thanks so much for the inspiration 😊

I am so glad to have found your channel! I have had to make huge changes to my eating habits & am trying to go mostly plant based & meat free. Being a Wisconsin cheese head, giving up the dairy has been hard but I am so grateful for almond milk & plant based butter. You are really helping me so much. This is very good!! I have a couple suggestions for anyone who might try the recipe: 1. I cut a block of tofu into four pieces as shown in video. Doing it that way, the half cup of flour mixture was WAY too much batter for four slices of tofu. Next time I might try cutting the block of tofu into smaller pieces which would create more surface area and might use up more the batter, OR starting with a 1/4 cup of flour. (Because I did like the fat tofu pieces!) It did require more than a splash of water for me, even for a thick batter, I also cooked mine in the air fryer for a bit of a healthier sandwich and it worked great. I might also experiment with some chili oil and other flavorings to kick up the flavor in the batter. But all that said -this is a delicious recipe, and super easy so I know I'll be making it again. I just love your recipes not because of just the recipes are good but you have shown the cooking as a complete different dimension, attention to detailing in minute things.. In addition to the awesomely good recipes you cook, I love that you usually only cook up 1-2 servings. I live by myself, and cooking for one can be a challenge. Most other channels cook up huge amounts of food, and I have to monkey with the recipe to get it down to a yield that works for me.

This took a bit of time (the careful thinly slicing of the vegetable slaw) but it was worth it. My husband and I both loved it. Yum! The slaw, like you said, was delicious on its own. Thanks for a great recipe. I’m looking forward to trying more tofu recipes. I love your program channel!

I have made quite a few recipes from both of your cookbooks! I have never really used Sichuan peppercorns even though I bought them a while ago. They are especially delicious in your chili oil. Dude! Love it all, even the humor! I've made ramens, homemade ramen noodles, countless rice and noodle recipes, soups, chili oil, curries, etc. and I'm only a "mostly" vegan! But it's true that you really gain confidence because believe me I had zero confidence when I started. Not everything has come out great, but for the most part, I've made the most flavorful dishes of my life thanks to you and your channel (I'm really really close to getting an actual cook book, but now with 3, it's like decisions decisions!) In all seriousness, I watch a lot of youtube and mostly cooking videos and yer definitely the best and it isn't even close! I mean that sincerely. Keep up the good work and eventually, I might even get enough confidence to tackle the cheese cake! Macha swirls and all!! Much appreciation!!!

OMG! This recipe is delicious and simple!! I can understand why you make it a weekly event. The taste is amazing as is the texture. Love the Crispy Katsu style for the tofu. BUT the slaw steals the show....just amazing, sweet, spicy and crunchy. WOW! Thank you for this excellent presentation.

I made this tonight. It was by far the best vegan burger I’ve ever tasted! The flavors from the salad and the ‘crispy bun’ tip, was a home run!! Thank you so much for sharing this delicious way to cook tofu. I’m going to make some of your mayo for the next one. 😋

I made the katzu just to have with rice and it was amazing! It was easy and delicious. Now it’s my favourite recipe that involves frying tofu in batter. So much better than starch coating recipes.
