Yes but it's also not fair to expect the mother to have a reaction she has no control over. The mother can, and did, be supportive, but crying at a dress is an involuntary response. And who knows what the circumstances were that day that lead to the tears. The bride was putting all of the pressure on her mother rather than just picking something she liked.

Had a co-worker in her 50s and she would talk about how she disliked her sisters... her jealousy must have been a life long thing. It took me a while to figure out that her itchyness stemmed from her own insecurity. She was such an unpleasant person. Imagine being like that one's entire life an into their 50's but for no real reason. She was married, had a house, a decent life, frankly an easy job, she had a dog, had children and grandchildren but she was a pill and it was unnecessary all because of some mental issue.

Fully agree. I'm plus sized and the middle child of 7, 5 of which including me are women and the fact that she was adamant her dress tops hers sister's dress screamed child for me. It wasn't about validation once she said that. Her sister also encouraged that mindset during that first appointment. My younger sister had boys and kept trying until she had a girl at child 5 when I had my only child that happened to be a girl. I'm in no way competitive so I never understood it. I hope she learns to live her life happily rather than comparing what should be her life mile stones with her sisters' and ruining those moments for herself.

If I were the mother of three daughters I would stamp out any sibling rivalry. This mother just passively lets it happen. My mother never created any competition between myself and my two sisters. To compete with somebody you love is just insane.

Boys in high school always tried to generate rivalry between my sister and I, even girls too, inviting just me to their birthdays cause I wasn''t "the pretty one". I never went to those, and our friedship with my sister was always the most important thing, for us both, thanks to my parents. I'm not sure that there's always a favourite child, we're all different and parents should be able to work on appreciating the different traits in their kids. We're 3 sisters too, and teachers would always compare us, boys would say my sis was the pretty one and I wasn't, etc. and specially through teenage years parents should help their children see how that's just a stupid game and that the bond between sisters can be beautiful!!

My Mum always says there is no difference between us & she loves us all the same. BUT... I always have felt like the 'outsider' as my sisters have more in common with each other & my Mum. My older sister is awesome with business & brains etc...my younger sister was born with a slight heart defect, but is ok now. She is extremely close to my Mum & is now her full time carer as Mum is now wheelchair bound. The 3 of them have the same opinions, some hobbies & interests in common, whereas I don't... I have nothing in common with them at all, other than being blood related (even my blood group is different! Lol!). So, even tho it was never intentional, & my Mum always stopped any discussion about it at all, it has always been the 3 of them & me on my own...

She is truly a wonderful person, and I love her so much❤❤ I feel badly, because my husband is the platinum child, my other sister in law is the golden child, and she sees herself as the black sheep of the family… she is sometimes left out of things , not in a vicious way at all, but it is sometimes hard for my in-laws to deal with drama … There is no fighting or harsh things said to her… she is no doubt loved, but she definitely has obvious insecurities, and this reflects in everything that she does. Well, I’m glad if the bride is happy, and the dress was nice. Personally, I liked dress 3 the best And I liked it better than her sister’s dress (which I didn’t like all that much). I don’t think her family was all that helpful.

This Big Bliss season was the second year STTTD existed. Long before Jo and Al. Long before bridal designers thought about plus size brides. Now it is much different, as you see the shop at Curvy Brides Boutique is full of them. BTW, shops in the US have those very same dresses now. No one has to go overseas to get a dress.

I completely understand her point of view. Yes, she was too competitive, but even on a day that is all about you, you feel used to comparing yourself to your siblings. She probably grew up seeing those 'hallmark moments' her mom gave to another sibling, and she just desperately wanted that for herself. Should she pursue her own happiness? Yes. But did she, regardless of her age, need that approval from her mom? Yeah, that feeling doesn't go away. Proud of her that she got the attention and love she wanted

She's going into this with the wrong mindset. She wanted her mother to cry and out do her sister and that's just unhealthy. There's definitely some insecurity there. Its not what the wedding is about. You marrying someone ho loves you, that should matter more.

The only reason there is sibling rivalry is because she is fat, recognises it, and knows whatever she wears she will not look like a disney princess. If you are going to let yourself get that big, and I notice the whole family were overweight, then you need to develope the confidence to deal with it.

Man I'm so grateful for my family!! And also for MYSELF. I'd love my fam to be onboard with my dress, but ultimately I know I want to pick something that I myself feel amazing in. It's hard work to understand how people pleasing works in our own minds, it's different for everybody, but it's worth it to work on it and feel confident that you know better than anybody else and that your decisions should't be based in other people's reactions to them.
